The Ukrainian language has been subjected to linguicide by its "neighbors" for several centuries. Russia deliberately and purposefully destroyed language as the main sign of ethnicity. Introduction of Ukrainian Latin alphabet (Українська латинка) could be beneficial for all of us due to less barrier. Jireček's project of Ukrainian Latin alphabet is probably the best. DSTU 9112:2021 System A is acceptable, but Czech project (Jireček's project) is better because it matches well West Slavic and Croatian/Slovenian systems of writing. DSTU 9112:2021 System B is somehow handicap since it tries to match to English writing system. Also currently used standard of transliteration from Ukrainian to Latin alphabet is slightly useless for Slavs using Latin alphabet, since the standard matches also English writing system.

I have installed the "Latynka" addon to Brave. It allows for custom transliterations from Ukrainian Cyrillic to Ukrainian Latin. After a few months, I have developed several systems that are all extremely accurate and use various diacritics to indicate soft signs and apostrophes (which are the Ukrainian equivalent to the "hard sign"). At this point, the ones that I have developed all boil down to personal choice. Do you like apostrophes? If so, I have a system that retains apostrophes. If you don't like apostrophes, then I have a system that replaces apostrophes with a dot diacritic on the hard consonant. It uses Czech orthography and also has orthographic additions from Slovakian and Polish. It is so amazing!

@@Theriodontia4945 I am using Latynka in Chrome. It is nice extension. I am switching between different systems, but I am using the most often Jireček 1859 system :) I can read Cyrillic, but many people do not. That is why broad use of Latinka is necessary. I would wish that Ukrainian/Belarusian/Bulgarian Latinka would be used in parallel with Ukrainian/Belarusian/Bulgarian Cyrillic. Good example is Serbia where both alphabets are used. Did you know that Czech language was using digraph 'cz', and other similar letter combinations at the beginning? Polish language took this system from Czech. But then writing system was changed in Czech language since the standardization of modern orthography in 19th century (for example, 'cz' was changed to consonant "č").

@@robertab929 The "Cz" Thing in Polish still trips me up. Why can't Polish change to reflect that? Also, I realized that all of my transliteration systems are very similar to the Jireček 1859 system. I even did my own custom system of transliteration of Belarusian using a completely different addon. I can also read Cyrillic alphabet, I simply transliterate the letters into Latin alphabet in my head.

@@Theriodontia4945 Well, about Polish letters. Poles did not change what was in both Czech and Polish at the time. Czech changed their letters. And still cz is in name of Czechia :)

@@robertab929 It still trips me up. Poland is extremely conservative about their orthography, not wanting to evolve it like the Czechs did. I did transliterate "Poland is Not Yet Lost" into an updated Czech-Slovak orthography, and even turned w into v and ł into w. It still looks Polish because of the unique nasal vowel orthography. I could try to paste it here if you want.

The South Russian Primer is a primer compiled by Taras Shevchenko and published at his expense in St. Petersburg in 1861 for primary literacy training of a Malorossians in their native language in free Sunday schools.
