Might have been underpowered and overstressed in the Ram due to its weight but in the Dakota the 4.7 is plenty of engine and does just fine. 72,000 miles on mine with basic maintenance!
Nathan Eller just hit 100,800 miles on mine, aside from a few bad relays and a small exhaust manifold leak on start up everything still holding up after 15 years 👍
I want to swap my Liberty for the HO. I don’t have a problem with the 3.7 it’s the transmissions that are weak and break. I’m on my 3rd trans and I do maintenance. Engine runs strong after 190k+ miles. Transmission wasn’t changed that long ago until it dropped
My 4.7 has 165,000 hard miles on the clock. No problems to speak of. I'm religious about maintenance. The truck is usually loaded to capacity. Maintain these engines and they will make you smile. Neglect them and you'll cry. It is simple.....
I have an 03 Ram 1500 4 door. When ran about 20 miles and switch it off it doesnt want to start back. Get it running and it will go! Any ideas as to what is wron? It has new pump assy. and still does same
Contemplating burinf a use Dakata pickup that has the 3.7 Magnum engine so I been looking for info about it. Comments declaeing something junk without telling why they are junk are worthless.
There was nothing wrong with the 318 and 3.9.I am not a fan of the 4.7 and and 3.7 engines, horrible to work on and over engineered and I hate these engines with a deep passion
Walter Frederick I'm not a fan of these engines. But appart from the Valve lifters, they are pretty good. They also suffer from timing chains getting loose just like the 239 and 318 design.
Walter Frederick But I have to agree, they are a pain to work on. I recently did a lifter job on a 3.7L. 3/4 of the work time was just taking the Valve covers off because you need to take everything around off in those 3rd gen Dakota's. I'll stick with my 1st and 2nd gen.
I had a 5.2 in my zj and now I've had the 4.7HO in my overland... And I love the engine. Had it for 16 years and and honestly has been pretty damn realible. Always changed oil and used Mobil1 synthetic. And 99% premium fuel
