Nope, I was the only one in my school's band/marching band who played the Glockenspiel all through my highschool days: 7th to 12th grade. Unfortunately... I've heard that nearly all schools have basically dropped having them in their bands. Including standard music class stuff. A shame...
Back when I went to highschool, I was the only one in band/marching band who played the Glockenspiel. I could play anything anyone asked on it. I played from 7th grade to 12th.
OK BUT THE BELLS!!!! i’ve been in band for 4 years and marching band for 2 going on my 3 this year in august and i play the bass drum (biggest one) but i’m really tryna play these!!
I actually am a main bell player. I have only played bells for my entire high school band class. Funnest instrument tbh. Also amazing is that people get out of your way ten times quicker than any drum since you have actual knives strapped to your instrument. Mine are about 30 pounds but if you pull them upright it helps you deal with the sort of weight. Love the bells. Honestly very fun
Just got my first glockenspiel today, not a marching one though. I've been in 4 high school / college marching bands and sadly none of the drumlines had marching bells. They're so cool! I'm a trombone player who secretly wishes he was a percussionist.
Okay i have to questions (would love to get a answer! :D) what was the song name? And Do most marching bands have bells as part of the percussion line? I'm joining High school next year, and i think i would love to play the bells in Marching Band!
Thank you for that! I have a 13 year old daughter that is an amazing pianist and is on bells in band her first year in band. This will be what we jam out to in the am on the way to school to show her that you can be a badass on the bells too!
as a former Souza player that switched to bells, I have no regrets bells are so underrated and in concert band, you get to play the big boys (vibes, Xylo, chimes, and marimba) bells are so fun, they are also super heavy and every time i try explaining to someone what instrument I play they have no clue what I'm talking about and its sad because nobody knows about marching bells because of how uncommon it is to see, and even if people do play it its usually only one, and people from my band always leave bells because of how heavy it is
