Weighing in on the extra stitching! I know 100% the reasoning for it. Although yes, it does provide more lateral support for any light physical activity, and it does help keep the two layers of canvas together, those are only a byproduct. The reason that is there is actually for the tongue :P The tongue widens out near the front of the shoe like a “T” and the left and right side is pieced and stitched into the both sides there to prevent it from moving. If you unlace your C70’s fully and pull open take a peek yourself, you’ll see that the tongue widens out and goes into the side there just around the first eyelet. And now you guys know! 😜

I got a pair of 70's three weeks ago. They're worth the extra $30. Stronger canvas and better cushioning, and just feel better on my feet. I wasn't sure I liked the off white gloss of the outsole and toecap, but after a few wears, I'm good. Nick's review is the best one I've seen comparing the two.

The Chuck II was too similar to the skate version known as the Converse CONS CTAS (Chuck Taylor All Star). They both feature the Lunarlon insole from Nike. The CTAS has seen many revisions over the years and was originally known as the CTS. What was so great about the CTS were the quality insoles, suede toe caps, and a decent amount of memory foam padding in the tongue and collar. I never understood why Converse had to have the OG Chuck Taylor, the Chuck 70, Chuck Taylor II, and CTAS all at the same time. What made the Chuck II such a standout for you?

By far the best review of the original and the 70s that I’ve seen on here. The only thing that I still have questions about is the sizing. I get what you’re saying about the differences in sizing between the original and the 70’s but are you saying that Chuck Taylor’s in general run true to size? Because I’ve always had discrepancies with this. In almost all brands of shoes I wear US10.5 - US11 but in Chuck Taylor’s, I wear a US9.5, yet the measurements between the Chuck Taylor’s and other shoes should be standardly the same, right?

Yes, I came here to looking for help with the right size and I have just purchased a pair of low tops. I normally were a size 10.5 in Nikes (Blazers for example). I also have wider feet. I ended up trying out a size 10 first, which fit, but was just a half size too big for me and just looked long. So I tried a 9.5 and the fit was good. Just a little bit on the narrow size, but I have wide feet. Overall the 9.5 is much better look and fit. On the comfort scale, compared to the All-Star, it is a notable improvement to where I can actually wear a pair of chucks and not regret it. The 70s are the way to go and the way chucks should be made period.
@Upsiditus7

One clear advantage of the standard Chucks is that they have tongue holders. The left tongue on Parchment 70s constantly slides down. The ankle patch looks better on the standard Chucks as well.

I also have a decent amount of Vans. I was on Vans first because the All Stars I had were not as sturdy. Vans definitely made sturdier. However, I got the One Stars and I absolutely LOVE the comfort of them. The Lifts as well. I still have feeling for my Vans and have work them so much that shoe lace had to be replaced instead of the shoe. But comfort of Converse of Lifts and One Stars are impeccable. Never bought a 70...and not sure I will any time soon. I need to chill on shoe buying.

I have a pair of All Stars but instead of the lightweight canvas it's more of a thicker "regular" shoe material. The color is a "static gray" with it being mainly gray but it's grainy with black and white specks in it, if that makes sense. Really it's kinda like gray canvas with a soft backing or something. I dunno what the exact model is though. I don't think I've ever gotten more compliments on a pair of shoes than I have with my All Stars, lol. I took up weight lifting early this year and they work great for that too. One day I will have huge man legs like the man himself Nick. 😲🦵 Maybe I'll pick up a pair of the 70s too! I would get a pair of each...I like the OG shoes overall look, but they do hurt your feet to wear them for long periods of time...I use to wear my Chuck's just for a few hours or so, but if you want to do a lot of heavy walking I would buy the 70's...So, I would buy both...GOD Bless ✌️

Got both the classic chucks and the 70’s , and love them both. One bad thing that bothers me all the time about the Chuck 70 is the tongue. It’s so flimsy and thin, that it creases and my socks can be seen through the shoe. Why haven’t they put the regular tongue ?

i died a little inside when they stopped the production of the chuck taylor 2. it was slick, versatile, modern, had a premium feel, and was quite nice to wear. i'll forever miss that embroidered logo which i've never seen done well in any other brand.

If I had to wear one shoe for the rest of my life I would choose the classic converse all Star high top in black because I can do almost anything in them except for running and fast treadmill walking. Since a teen I have only have been wearing converse I can skate in them, do MMA in them, ride my bike in them and they are the best gym shoe. I personally believe are comfortable and last long, my leather converse high-top's lasted 7y and I literally did everything in them! :) I also believe that converse are the most unmaterialistic shoe that there is and the opposite of greed, even tho I love my chucks I refuse to have a collection, I used to have like 9 chucks but I decided to donate them to the poor cuz they need them more than me, so now I only have 2 pairs of chucks. Life is too short for me to worry about my shoes or to start a sneakers collection that why I ended up wearing the same shoe/shoe style for so many years :)

The only thing I don’t like with the Chuck 70’s is the thickness of the sole. As I dislike any kind of platform shoes version of a classic pairs, I think this model should be as thin as the Chuck Taylor All Stars. It would be so close to perfection.

I'm in my late 40s and found a strong liking for Chuck 70 hi top. I'm from India where we have bright sunny days round the year, except 3 months of rainy season. So could you please suggest whether I should get a good pair of Chuck 70? Should it be Black/Blue/Gray to be on safe side or try some different fall colors?

ooo the prequel sequel analogy makes sense. I got the 2’s 4-5 years ago and I still use them for court sports. I didn’t use them the first 3 years I got them though. When I looked on site for more, I was wondering where they were- and was considering the 70’s instead

I´ve used all stars ages ago but i stop wearing them because they are rather poor quality, and really unconfortable. these 70s made wear converse all star again. It´s amazing it´s such an unique design, they never go out of fashion even if you think it´s not appropriate anymore. Regardless what people may tell you, this model is so much better than the original, the model that all have been waiting for. In a nutshell if you like Chucks , buy the 70s and leave the other to teenagers who can´t afford this model. Great review, i love my red wine pair ;)

I'm a 9.5 US in the average shoe, but in the Regular CTAS I'm a 9 US. What size should I go with when purchasing the Chuck 70s? Also, do the 70s tend to run big or small?

It's really weird..I bought a pair of Chuck 70s earlier in the year from a place called Opening Ceremony and they're like, half of the features from the 70s in this video and half the regular chucks..not sure what they are exactly. They have the black license plate logo and the one piece of rubber, but instead of the sewn on logo it's the regular one and the insole doesn't say 70 on it..weird haha.

I really really really really don’t like the glossy sole/toebox of the 70s. Enough for me to stick to the all stars. And honestly, the premium leather version of the all stars seem to be just as good as the 70. There’s an outlet near me that sells the standard all stars for just about $30! So, I’ll beat them to the grave ready for another pair!

I am making people aware of the materials used in the pair of CT 70 I purchased Using Rose Anvils dissection of the ct vs ct70 the footbed, I found that the 70 I had still used the same construction as the cheaper ct, I contacted converse and they told me they have the right to use whatever materials they want and that if I did not want the premium 70 I should return them Check out what the shoes are made of before you purchase them

The 70s are great but the IIs, especially the counter climate ones that kept some water away, were crazy comfortable and had robust construction. I prefer the aesthetics and waxed sole and laces of the 70s any day but the Lunarlon on the IIs feel superior (imo) than the 70s.

gotta ask how the chuck 70 compares to the og chuck but in leather. that shoe is around 10 buck cheaper but its got a chrome tanned leather that is pretty average but for the money i think the leather shoe might very well be the best one you can get. especially if you keep it clean and have a few magic erasers lying around!

I have a pair of custom Chuck 70s and I lift in them fairly often. I've never had the All Stars, so I can't compare. But the 70s work great. Caveat, though: I switched out the insert with a cork footbed, so I have no idea how the original one performs. Mostly switched them out because the original one seemed like it needed breaking in and it was thicker than my current insert (plus it won't form to my feet as well as cork will). I imagine it'll work fine though.

@@sneaky.vampire the one I'm using is from a brand called Filson. It's pretty good! Definitely prefer it over the original foam that comes in the shoe, from what little I've tested that one. Although the Filson one also has foam, just with a layer of cork on top of it (otherwise it would probably fall apart pretty quickly if it was purely cork).

Hi, quick question. If I wear Sk8 Hi Vans at 9.5 or 9 1/2 and those fit me well, what size would you suggest I get in Chuck 70s? I once wore All Stars but the stitching near the rubber top, near the toes would cut my socks but now I seen the interior and how the stitching was different and thought I'd give it another try with the Chuck 70s :)
