Too many people nowadays take this kind of attention to style and character for granted - so do many cartoon producers now, who mainly focus on shock value and cheap laughs and hardly bother developing character, setting up an actual gag, or finding a style at all - I'M LOOKING AT YOU, SETH MCFARLANE!!!
back in the 1980s when A&E was really about the arts, at some ungodly hour I was privileged to witness a class Chuck gave to aspiring illustrators... I was trying to finish a freelance work at the time, so not fully focused on this thing...This man deserves a presidential award, a nobel prize, a pritzter's (:-D) prize.
First of all, my school at third grade did not draw lines in development. If one was brilliant in one space, weak in another, we were tested, to help us identify where we required help. No shame. I cosistently tested in 97-99 percentiles, except math. Clearly an abstract thinking issue. I learned musical notation, learned the recorder, soon Mom found-a genius piano teacher at which I excelled. Mom brought to home my award-winning teacher/aunt. I quickly improved. My art was sent to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, when I was in third grade. No idea where it went. It was a pueblo scene. Why the fuck did Mom put me back in public schools?
Extenor muscles and grasping muscals, tendons, ...that is what my Hungarian Art Professor taught me. Rigorous classical art...Chuck jones infused his images with deep understanding of anatomy, and human nature. I never getvtired watching his unedited masterpieces. Jesus christ I cannot correct typo errors.
