Years ago I taught this piece to a high school jazz/stage band. No music on paper. Showed them how the rhythm from the intro was the basis for the entire melodic line, one layer at a time. The guitar solo was played by the first trombonist, and the kid absolutely killed it. One of my proudest moments as a HS band director in training. Was my senior thesis for music education classes.
the magic starts at @1:32. Genius. I listen to this album SO loud in my house. Glad the speakers can handle it. I can't help myself. It's that good. Brilliant.Music at its best.
Great song...it was also used as the theme to Connecticut High School Bowl on WTNH from 1984-91, which is where I first remember having heard it as a kid.
My thoughts exactly! lol I put on this album while varnishing a floor, pretty much just for the title track. The guitar solo at 4:22 really turned my head.
