I distinctly remember getting chills the first time I saw this. Bryce had always been presented as this reckless asshole who ruined Chuck's life, when all along he was keeping him out of harm's way. Brilliant storytelling.
You could already tell Bryce wasn't an asshole in 1x07 at the end of the episode, when chuck watches the CD interview. But we didn't have the full picture yet
A well intentioned asshole is still an asshole. Bryce may have thought he was helping Chuck by getting him kicked out of Stanford, but is instead DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE for turning Chuck into the milquetoast nerd we meet in the pilot at the same time. Bryce ruined Chuck's life because of what he did. He even feels remorse for it when they meet again later in the show. Was he genuinely remorseful? Yeah, probably, but Bryce Larkin is not someone I would ever call friend after a betrayal like that, good intentions or not.
@@ArthurRex131That was chuck's decision to let the downfall takes over him. He's capable to do a lot of thing but just because that one incident he decided to stuck in the worse place possible. And also bryce didn't have that much choice to begin with. If he didn't lie about chuck's exam then chuck would be forced to join intersect program immediately.
Bryce gave him the Intersect due to his 98% on the image test which consists of thousands of pictures to identify in a second.Bryce knew that he could handle the First Intersect without having negative effects in his brain because the data and flashes weren't as much data as the 2.0,from the start the first and beta versions for others need a Govenor such as Orion or Chuck's dad.
the longer the intersect is in the brain it can cause problems ...orion had beta intersect or intersect 0.5 which was outdated version of the intersect 1 and we see that orion built the governor for himself too as he wasnt in his prime ...intersect 1 worked w/o harm for chuck but could have created problems later on but orion had it removed when chuck uploads intersect 2.0 its powerfull than 1.0 and he starts feeling effects within an year so orion had to reconfigure his governor so that it could work for 2.0....
lol when in a recent White Collar episode, Matt Bomer's charater said "I'm a spy...." I couldn't help but jump up and down in excitement yelling and shouting that this just cemented the idea that Neal Caffrey is really Bryce Larkin!!!
@samruco Chuck got sent the intersect because Bryce knows (based on his high scores on the subliminal test at Stanford) that his brain is uniquely capable of handling the intersect's data. He also knew that Sarah would find Chuck and protect him.
He's trying to put Chuck at ease, making Chuck feel easy about getting rid of the bad guys and get his sister married. He's not acting full of himself, he's trying to cheer up Chuck and keep him calm. It's a classic move people use to divert attention from the thought of danger.....
that music playing in the background at around 0:50-ish is that same song that was played at the end of Season 1 Episode 9 when Casey and Sarah watches as the container opens to reveal Bryce's body. Very interesting choice of music!
its not the full truth (do not read further if you haven't seen the season 3 finaly due to spoilers) the full truth is that chucks dad wanted him to have the intersect because he survived the test intersect as a kid
Which means Bryce keeping Chuck out of the spy game by getting him kicked out of Stanford was all for nothing since he ended up sending him the intersect anyway. Way to think things through, Bryce. Way to freaking go...
I'd have loved to see Bryce in later seasons, hell, turn up at chuck and sarah's wedding, and after being slapped by Ellie (did she ever find out the truth about Bryce, after chuck told her about him+cia/nsa and intersect?)... but then he [the actor[ was on White Collar having brilliant scenes with who I thought was ellies' actress playing the fbi agents' wife...
This is an old post, but no Bryce did not have an Intersect. Roarke and others believed that Bryce must be the one who had the intersect because well that's kind of who you would expect to have it, as the gov. was going to put the Intersect in him after this. In fact Bryce had been on the run from various people who were after him because they thought he had the intersect, because no one suspected Chuck had it, and Bryce thus let them believe that to protect Chuck.
How could you be so wrong? Have you watched that episode at all or are you just extremely bad in english? In the episode your talking about Chuck get to know why Bryce get him out of Stanford not why he send him the intersect. mr.ImSoImportant.
Yea, this is theway it outta be... NOT...Huge fan but not now , Shaw's gotta go the show is about him now...Its changed radically.. plus he's stealin our...well chuck's girl.. shape up Fedak and Shartz... your gonna lose your core audience!!!!
