@@giancarlofelicianocastaned9316 I know. Also, it should even be obvious from the context of the song. But back in the day, me and my friends were all bewildered...
In memory of my drinking pal, a fellow Brit, who I met in Australia - who became a firm friend. We loved this song and always sang along on mammoth drinking sessions - he sadly passed away a few years ago. This one’s for you, Andy, make sure you have a coldie ready for me up there when my time comes.
Wow-in a way l’m envious of you-to meet someone in Australia who became a good friend and drinking pal. This is a truly special song and appropriate for mammoth drinking sessions.I wish you and him all the best.
@@BarryHart-xo1oy thank you Barry, I made some very good friends in Australia, most of them Australians, but a few Brits as well, and after I moved to Switzerland, he ended up moving back to England, but we would still visit each other before his death.
Crazy how everyone has different memories to this song, love hearing the different ones. Yours is truly amazing to! Hope you had a good time with your buddy! He sure is looking down on you
I used to work at a Five Guys. They'd play this song constantly but I never knew the title or was able to understand the lyrics. So for the past year the best I could do was hum the background music and hope somebody would recognize it. I was just watching Stephen Colbert and he used the song and when I heard it I screamed "that's it! That's the song!" Then ran upstairs to look it up on RU-vid. A years journey finally has come to end
This feels like the intro sequence of every stereotype teen movie where the kid wakes up late for school and has to race through the house getting ready, missing the bus, and having to skateboard through rediculous obstacles
I was diagnosed with lung cancer on March 27th 2024 an when I left the hospital this was the first song I heard. That's God's way of telling me to fight for my life. Now this has been my wakeup song everyday.
YES!! Lung cancer has NOTHING on your BADA$S!! Just prayed for you & my only request.. once you get the word ur in remission-YOU MUST GO HAVE A DRINK!!!! 🥃
@@JPF_311 I thank you for your kind words. I quit drinking in 2005 because it was causing problems in my life and most of all I have a 5 year old son that I love so much. But I will have a delicious glass of fresh orange juice. Haha Take care my friend..Kevin
I was rocking out to this in my car on the way to work last year, and a guy in a truck stopped by me at the stoplight saluted me with his breakfast burrito.
This song came from the 90's. but even today, 25 years later, it gets regular playtime and is used in soundtracks of many shows and movies. It definitely is one of the best One-Hit Wonders of all time. Long live the 90's!
My toddler daughter and I LOVED this song! We had fun on the couch -- I'd knock her down -- she'd sing and scream and do "I get up again!!" Fun times -- the message and beat is great for all ages! "I get knocked down. But I get up again. You're never gonna keep me down!" Good poetry IMHO.
That's so cute 😂 I was about 7 when this song came out and I was really into rollerblading at the time, I thought this song was about rollerblading cause you get knocked down and you get back up😂
Over ten years ago I was struck by a car and landed under a different car in my mental stupor to regain consciousness I heard this song and I used this song to make sure that I would walk again and ten years later even though I feel pain in my knee and hip I still be singing I get knocked down but I get up again you're never gonna keep me down. Thank you Chumbawumba you helped me get back up when I was down
Hope you're getting back up in there... Can I offer something? Sometimes you can channel your anger to direct it at something, exercise or therapy, etc,,,, but the key is to remember that it's all FROM YOUR OWN BODY!! Let your body create the juices to heal yourself!! Been there, crashed dirtbikes and found this approach to be the most heal-filled manner...'
TheMultiGunMan .... lolol ... I had so much FUN ... from the 60's to ... NOW! But I just can't handle too much of that 'dubstep.' I swear, it sounds like muzak on muscle relaxers. GRIN! Maybe it grows on ya ... like .. mold. Hahaha!
i totally agree with you the 90's was the best and i play all of the music from the 90's and my six year old daughter loves it and my ten month old loves it as well
This band was from Burnley UK and it's the only band I know that came from our town and made it big. It perfectly encapsulates the spirit from round there
I was working in London for a week at the height of this song's popularity. I had been working a bit late in an office by St. Pauls and walked around the narrow street and found this tucked away pub in the old part by St. Pauls neighborhood. I'm guessing there were a lot of office workers in the area and by 7:30 the pub filled up, smoky, crowded and loud by 8 pm. This song came on, they turned the volume up to 11 and the whole pub was jumping! It was intense. And wonderful. One of the great memories my career has provided me with. You had to be there.
As an American, I absolutely love the different styles of British accents, and especially how the female soloist delivers the line "Pissing the night away" -- it could almost've been Julie Andrews!
FIFA World Cup 98. Only had like 20 seconds of this song in the beginning. Left me looking for this song for years. When I first heard it I didn’t speak English, I imagined the girl singing in Enya style must be conveying something beautiful. 20 years later after I finally found it and speak English .... “pissing the night away”... Edit: i found the intro, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8H4EzEAeMQ0.html
When I was a kid I thought this was a cool motivational song about not giving up after a loss. Now I realize it’s about getting piss drunk until you fall down and literally having to get up again LOL.
And pissing the night away. When it came out I (and probably most people) were so focused on the 'main' part of the song, that I never realized that line was 'pissing the night away'.
The FCC noticed eventually and there was a controversy but by the time they realized it was pissing the night away not kissing, it had already been played all over the country for nearly a month.
This is my anthem. After numerous hospital stays, too many surgeries to count or remember, and even a short bout with testicular cancer, I can't help but say: I get knocked down, but I get up again; you're never gonna keep me down!
The cassette tape of Tubthumper (the album) got stuck in my car stereo and I listened to the entire album, on an endless loop, for months. Never got tired of it....
Is this song called Tubthumper because he is drinking and trying to get out of the tub but he keeps slipping and thumping the tub but he gets up again and then he gets knocked down, but he gets up again??? Did I finally solve this song?
2024 here ! always getting back up,,, and burning the stress rubber "pissin the night away" lol,,, work hard play hard and always remember the goods times!!!! we got one life,,, live it!!
Back in the 1990s I was going for my dream job in a very small and exclusive industry for which I did not have the perfect education or work experience. I was driving home after another crushing disappointment of a job interview and thinking of quitting when I heard this song for the first time on the radio. In three and a half minutes it entirely turned my outlook around. I decided I was *never* going to give up. A few months later I got into a really competitive grad program and 18 months later I had that dream job. More than 20 years later I still look forward to work on Sunday nights. Thanks Chumbawumba, wherever you are.
It's kind of impressive how this song manages to keep its two differing tones together in harmony. It's not Bohemian Rhapsody, but it can definitely can bend the atmosphere just enough without breaking into a different song.
Me and my kids listen to this song while we’re jumping on the trampoline together. We fall down and bounce back up every time it occurs in the song, and it’s a complete blast. Who knew this song from my childhood would give me such great memories with my own children.
Based on the timing of when he says get knocked down and get up again I imagine that there would be two intervals of bounces, so I don’t believe you that you bounce back up every time it occurs
When I was a child and this was playing I never really understood it but I danced to it anyway because the song has a great beat, now that I'm grown-up and I unfortunately suffer with depression I can understand it better, I've been knocked down too many times but I always managed to get up again
If you suffer from depression,...if you drink alcohol🍷,smoke ciggies🚬or weed, drink coffee ☕or tea,or any other drugs,...please stop,as they are all depressants!😨Caffeine, alcohol & smoke are all poisons!😬Oh,& antidepressants are crap as well!💩Sure, they make you feel good for a little while, but then they bring you way on down! They're a scam, like most pharmaceuticals!! It's best to go natural, eat healthy, exercise & let the body fix itself over time!!💪🏻👌🏻Good luck!!🙏🏻😉
I remember myself (6-7 years old kid) sitting at the porch of my house listening this song in the radio, now I’m 29 and I keep listening it and enjoying it the same way I used to back in my childhood, it brings up a ton of very good memories.
I'm 52 yrs old & it is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING how music can send you back to a certain age & memory, & if you're anything like me...at that moment...you're trying not to cry!!! Much love from Mobile Alabama.
@@randymiller3949 Totally agree with you, I have an endless list of songs that with just start playing they take me back in time to the good old days. Greetings from Sonora, Mexico!!
@@Marylandbrony Don't you mean the music? Bye, bye Miss American pie. Lmfao. Drove the Chevy to the levy, but the levy was dry singing good old boys drinking whiskey and rye. Omg! I think that song came out only a few years before I was born. Though I would have to check details on the that. Lol.
I literally spit my drink across the living room watching the Simpsons one night years ago and Homer was dancing in the living room singing with this song: "I drink a whiskey drink, I drink a lager drink and when I have to pee, I use the kitchen sink."

13 year old me hated this song when it came out. Honestly, 35 year old me isn't raping the repeat button either, but it is crazy how playing it instantly brings me back to around 97/98.
My daughter is almost 33, and this reminds me of listening to TheJack Diamond Show on MIX107.3 while dropping her off at daycare. Time has gone by so quickly!
@@STMARTIN009 Haha I'm pretty sure Bieber and Ariana are both old to them, and my boys are 15 and 8 lol. Fun fact, my oldest only listens to rap and my youngest loves metal. I listen to both.
Music was already on it's way out by that time, I think? MTV2 did come in though and VH1 tried to take up the slack a bit, but even they went into the reality sector around the mid-aughts for good.
A big shout out to everyone else struggling with depression, but they keep going because of their loved ones... Nobody to open up to, nobody to talk to, don't want to worry the people you love, gotta keep that stoic thing going on, so you soldier on and put on a happy face. You just keep going... Like a weather-battered ship, running at maximum rpms, lost in the stormy sea, desperately trying to reach home port. Pushing past the limits. Don't stop! I haven't so far, I've thought about it many times... but giving up means all the bullshit wins. Screw that! Power through - win! Lets reach home port.
Been there. Years ago being married to an abusive narcissist whom the whole world loved. I has no one. But God spared me through all my attempts to just die in peace at age 29 into mid 20s Now I'm 66 and life is goid
@@Quasimodo-vi9ww At the very least... you care! Don't let the assholes win. Keep fighting! Giving up means you let all the shit in your life win. Don't do that. I didn't... I might still hate myself and be a high functioning alcoholic, but I refuse to give up.
He drinks a whiskey drink, he drinks a vodka drink, he drinks a lager drink, he drinks a cider drink...well damn, with that combo he'll be pretty shit-faced lol. Loved this song since 1997, when I was 11. Dunno who this Tyler person is that people are talking about in the comments.
There was a question on "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" that referenced this song. Your friend Rob Roy is drinking a Rob Roy. What kind of drink is he drinking? A. He drinks a whiskey drink B. He drinks a vodka drink C. He drinks a lager drink D. He drinks a cider drink
Still listening on May 2024. In 1999 was my first time when I started listening this song. It brings memories back when I was a freshman in the University ❤

Just lost my newborn son and 90s and early 2000s music from my childhood like this helps a lot. R.I.P. son. I wish you got to know the songs I grew up with. I’ll show you one day.
This song helped me with my mental health. I had a very unhappy childhood. I was psychologically abused when I was younger. My parents would embarrass me in front of the public and blame me for my siblings mistakes. This song helped me to recover. This song will always remain a legend song.
