The Bus People chronicles the struggles of Cape Town public bus commuters. The author revisits the barbaric terror of hired hit men who, in recent years, caused chaos in the public bus transport system in parts of the Western Cape. A refreshing portrayal of the izinkabi (Zulu for hired killers) phenomenon, The Bus People shows how crime worsens the structural burdens of poverty and landlessness on Black people’s lives. Thirty years after South Africa became a democracy, the unjust legacies of apartheid town and regional spatial planning continue to stare at us with eyes of fire.
