Song: O Come To The Altar by Elevation Worship
Episode 3
Beef (2023) is an American comedy-drama television series created by Lee Sung Jin for Netflix!
Steven Yeun as Danny Cho
Justin H. Min as Edwin (guitar & vocals)
LYRICS
Are you hurting and broken within?
Overwhelmed by the weight of your sin?
Jesus is calling
Have you come to the end of yourself
Do you thirst for a drink from the well?
Jesus is calling
O come to the altar
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ
Oh, what a Savior
Isn't He wonderful?
Sing Hallelujah, Christ is risen
Bow down before Him
For He is Lord of all
Sing Hallelujah, Christ is risen
Oh, what a Savior
Isn't He wonderful?
Sing Hallelujah, Christ is risen
Bow down before Him
For He is Lord of all
Sing Hallelujah, Christ is risen

I watched this with a new buddy of mine & we both were completely silent. After we both said that was worthy of an Emmy. You described it perfectly, you feel the weight of everything that's happened up until this point. It makes you feel strong but you realize how tired you are at the same time. Sometimes you just have to let go and let the emotions out. As someone who was raised in the church but isn't religious, I related with this scene so much. Even made me consider going back lmao.
@felixcast
@felixcast 29 дней назад
"That scene was actually tough because Steven didn't cry on the first couple takes, and he was like, 'I'm going to need a moment,'" said Lee. "We moved on, we shot other scenes and came back, it still wasn't working. What we ended up doing is we switched the song; we had prerecorded that track with the band, and I think what Steven needed was the original song that he had grown accustomed to. Once we played that, and he felt all the extras singing along, I think that sense of community broke him down. At least that's what he tells me. That's when you just saw Danny let the walls down and have everything crumble." Taken from the Mashable

Jesus accepts you as you are which means he takes you in with all your dirty baggage and he will clean you along the way but you have to trust his ways. Really touched on something primal Made a comment, truly wonder if the spirit touched the actual actor- Sure, maybe not. & it’s not that I was trying to “get religious”- Just conveying how powerful this was acted & what reverence they gave this scene. No-I hold so much in Thought I was alone, & couldn’t hold anything in (Wasn’t alone-“you cry? Men cry??” …uhhh..didn’t know it was such a shock; but I “get” why)

I remember the first time I experienced Jesus visually and spiritually, hasn’t happened since revealed himself like that except spiritually but I cried out in the middle of the night like this guy because I was like the song said “thirsting for a drink from the well of Jesus” but i didn’t know it. I cried out for my creator to show himself to me at 3am and I randomly saw a bright scene of a man walking on a sea calming the waves and he told me that he was “the calm to my waves”. Never again did I look back, I instantly KNEWWW it was Jesus. Man He’s a great and risen saviour

Steven Yeun dug deep on this scene. The actor said that he felt an outcast as an Asian living in the US. The church is where he felt home. So yeah, those are real tears from a real experience.

This has got to be probably one of the most realest and genuine portrayal of church, gospel, and congregation I have ever seen in a movie or tv series. It’s impressive! I’m surprised Netflix would even show something like this.

In my 25 years, I’ve never seen a more realistic relatable scene. I remember watching this for the first time a couple of months ago, breaking a tear not just because it’s an emotional scene but because it’s a representation of the love Jesus Christ & what the Holy Spirit can do when you stop running. What God can do when you submit yourself. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stood in my own tears praising our Father Lord, & be filled with the love of Jesus Christ. That feeling of knowing God is gracious & forgiving no matter how many mistakes you’ve made can really break anybody down 🙏🏽

I'm Catholic, but it's been a while since I've been to church. However, everytime I go back I break down crying. I related to this scene so much. The last time I broke down was also because of money problems with debt and the fact that my parent's health was declining. It was really stressful. I cried watching this scene too.

Btw there’s spoilers here Anyway, Unfortunately in the series, he almost redeems himself (was about to apologize to amy and was trying to fix things with him and Paul) but he ends up trusting Isaac (shady cousin who basically has a bunch of laundered money and other shady stuff)

I lost my job around the time this series was released. During that stressful transition, I broke down crying to this scene. And even more when everyone went to bed. Something special about that melody had me thinking about my life and where I want to be. There is a higher power that will watch over us all. I’ve since gotten a job and have been able to keep my babies and family happy! I came to revisit this scene because it was so good.

Crazy how the song matches the intensity of the emotion he is feeling. I feel it goes up a notch after 2:25 and they're singing "Bow down before him" while he literally bows over crying.
