Other Black Pentecostal groups have archbishops and they are dressed even more like Catholics with the robes and hats. Bishop Delano Ellis comes to mind.
Most Modern day American Religions are based on Catholicism. Many other faiths are what you call "Protestant" as in many other church founders came out of catholicism with new ideas,with the thought of improving upon already existing faith beliefs.

Be careful on how you judge the church, for the church isn’t perfect but we all should be striving for perfection. God is on his way back. I always chuckle at some of the Pentecostal churches they soundly put down the Catholic Church yet they copy most of our liturgy as in this processional.
I come from the Church of God in Christ, please dont think that we all have something against the Catholic church. God's will is intact for all of our religious institutions. If certain Christians have disrespected the Catholic church its not right and not indicative of everybody.
You can thank Bishop J.O. Patterson for that. He was the leader of this denomination from the 60s to 1989. I don’t know what possessed him to change up the church and get them to wear Anglican robes and do Catholic ceremonies. The COGIC wasn’t always like this. It used to be an old school Pentecostal holiness grass roots denomination where preachers wore nothing more than suits and preached sanctification.
It’s not a Catholic ceremony if you realize it’s not just COGIC it’s also the other black Pentecostal denomination like the Pentecostal assemblies of the world which is a historical oneness Black Pentecostal they do processional like these as well.
Although my roots are solid in the Baptist tradition, I pause to praise God that along side that stands Tolliver Temple COGIC just around the corner from my home. It was there that I grew to understand the movement of the Spirit. Thank God for the COGIC.
I enjoy the official day services but it has become so commercial and so organized that the Lord cannot do what he wants to do there clearly was a move of God that needed to break free but sometimes we get so caught up in the program that we forget about God's program
I can’t wait until the convocation comes back to Memphis. It has been if I am correct since 2009 since the convocation has been to Memphis. Someone correct me. I am so excited. St. Louis was nice but it felt like we was rushed when the people was trying to praise God. Hopefully this won’t happen in Memphis next year God willing. And for those who is giving bad comments on our jurisdiction, all of you need prayer, and pray for our bishop instead of criticizing him. God has placed him there for a reason.

Until u break through... not enough to disapprove you need to be burden til u hurt consecrate and are driven mad to pray and fast... some of those up on tht platform need the Lord you must pray... then set the example
People Do your research. The Church of God in Christ is an Episcopal Church by Polity Classification. Im no longer part of the Church Of God In Christ (Im only here for research purposes) but its amazing how many people how are so proud to be COGIC but don't know any COGIC history. Learn Who You Are.
It's heartbreaking to know with over a hundred years of conventions we haven't purchase a super Coliseum facility specifically for the Church of God in Christ nor have we purchase hotels for the Saints not to stay for free but not get charged over $200 per night we're making people who don't even believe in our God Rich by spending our money with these people

The abuse of children will not go uncovered. Not just those who victimize, but those who cover it up and turn a blind eye, may you never get a single good nights rest until justice and peace are restored to those children. You're titles and rituals mean absolutely nothing.
Ohh this is the complete opposite of What Bishop Mason envisioned and practiced! Back during Bishop Ford’s tenure there was a processional, yet the general Board and the presiding Bishop walked with a normal pace and it took only 2-3 minutes before they took their seats ... it was something like “Now let us rise to our feet and welcome the presiding bishop and the general board ... then whoever was speaking would spontaneously start singing This is the Church of God in Christ ... You cannot Join it you have to be born here.... this is the Church of God in Christ ... “And before the opening hymn call to worship we’d be having the Ch Mason choir singing selection (just search cogic 1994 official day professional and 1972 ch Mason choir ).... Now what is this I’m seeing? The professional looks more like something you’d expect in St Peters Square, Vatican City .... what next now? The ministers start wearing chasubles , the bishops and general Board wear mitres and being staffs (the stick catholic bishops bring with them)... then we’d have the presiding bishop carried on top of a movable Throne borne by special guardsdressed in white pope-like vestments , with all these being accompanied with a pipe organ and the choir singing Latin chants .. COGIC is Pentecostal-Holiness , and it’s right about time for things to be brought back to at least what it was like during Bishop Ford’s time. No fussy long processions, no catholic paraphernalia being paraded around, no unnecessary rituals, and no vestments and robes please ! I can’t imagine the look on Bishop Mason’s face if he can see all of these things ....

I don't know. Maybe I missed something in all the comments. Personally, it doesn't matter what people think. It's up to each individual to know and worship God for him/herself. The fact that there are so many negative comments about the "pomp and circumstance" when it's the anthem that's the focal point of the video is very confusing. I was in the choir and sang on that day. The soloist is a member of my local church. From the life I watch him live, he is a true saved, sanctified, Holy Ghost filled man. I know I am as well, so to include people you do not know in blanket statements smacks of judging. My thing is: if you feel so strongly, the only thing you should be pointing is tour knees to the floor in prayer, not tour fingers at people. Remember, when you point one finger at someone, the other three are pointing at you, making you 3x as guilty. Not judging here. I'm just sayin'...
Kevin Bouknight thank you for clearing things up because the negative comments from others is very disturbing... people tend to forget that seeking God is based on you not following others ... I don’t get caught up in all the extras I just have learned to seek God for myself... this year will be my first time going to St. Louis for the convocation so I’m looking forward to it the despite others negativity

I will not pray for someone who is leading God’s people into the very thing the God called his people out of. We as Believers are to discerned what is of God and what’s not! What does a holiness church look and should like Catholic Church? I will not be apart of this ungodly mess! God is calling His people out of this system! Not of God!

If I can interject all of you that are complaining about this looking like Catholicism uhhh all of our churches has some form of a catholic rendition. No matter how you flip it. I’d read the history of how the church modernized from the 1600’s to now.
It's not even the procession I have a problem with, it's the execution. 1. Hymns are meant to be sung in processions. This avoids whatever the organist is doing. 2. The processional route seems to be needlessly long. Unless the purpose is to avoid congestion at the stairs, which form a natural bottleneck. 3. The cross is at the head of the procession. Nothing goes before the cross in a procession. And it should be flanked by lit candles not unlit tapers. 4. The route should not be flanked. The clergy proceed by rank in absence of any other customs. 5. They move to slowly and are not arranged closely enough. 6. No one is announced. The procession is done to the glory of God not men. By custom the ranking clerics should be toward the back and the presiding bishop at the back. He should be un-flanked. 7. This looks like it was hastily arranged or done with little to no practise. That's the thing about ceremony. If your going to do it, you do it right.
That is the quietest I have ever heard the congregation at Holy Convocation during and after the sermonic selection. All the talent in the world is nothing but just talent without the anointing. The anointing will have sinners saying what must I do to be saved. The anointing brings healing and deliverance and ushers in the Glory of God. The Anointing Destroys The Yoke. All talent can do is entertain you. Then on the other hand, you may have no talent and stand up and see the power of God come in and move all over the congregation bringing signs and wonders to the Glory of God. Give me that anointing!
Your uneasiness is due to COGIC need to present a non - scriptural idolotrous ceremony not in praise to God but to men. The costumes and titles are all to please man. God looks on the heart not outward.
Those acolytes indeed is the tradition of the catholic and episcopal churches, but I do love that arrangement of the doxology that the organist played when they announced them. I love all types of organ music, including that traditional classical pipe organ sound as well as the COGIC screaming organ. Lol. If that processional is paganism as some of you have suggested, then may God have mercy on us all!!! 🙏

COGIC have been blessed for so long but that old devil will never stop God Glory and his praise I've been part of this church for 9 yrs I've seen healing and miracle's COGIC have always been in order and that is what I like about it. If you need help they will help you so please don't criticize this church or the bishop
I like the idea of them walking in in solidarity with their robes on however, the titles were unnecessary. Also, if they are going to do a processional, they shouldve have done as the late Bishop Patterson asked, which was to be re-ordained into APOSTOLIC SUCCESSION. If you don't know what that is, Its the succession of all bishops tracing back to the Apostles and Jesus. Roman Catholicism has nothing to do with this. The Orthodox church does this. Even the churches that Paul preached in in Ethiopia, the house of Tawahedo, they all do this. Nothing new. Its a step forward. The lighting of incense, the robes, and mitres is all described in the BIBLE. YES...Look in the book of Exodus. LOL READ THE BIBLE PEOPLE!!!!

Apostolic don't believe in the trinity and some don't believe the son of God is in heaven now. Cogic believe in the trinity and they believe Jesus is the son of God now.

All the scriptures you quoted have nothing to do with these men ( many now deceased ) and the ceremony was not for God but to overshadow men with lofty titles adorned in gowns and dresses.

Preston Releford I’m not a big COGIC fan and don’t particularly care for Bishop Blake but before you just assume things maybe you should look up the facts. @@greendiamond1602 after all the pomp and circumstance came the Pentecostal worship that COGIC is known for. Bishop Ford preached against the borrowed Catholic ritual. I grew up in the AME Church and we had a trained musician with a pipe organ. We had one woman who would get the Holy Ghost and shout. When she did it would scare the hell out of just about everyone! Now, things are changing in the AME Church. We believe in enthusiastic worship as well as traditional. We still sing hymns and anthems but we also do traditional and contemporary Gospel.
Addendum (smile): for some reason when I first opened the link, it started at the anthem and did not include the processional. Now, having seen the link in its entirety,but it some the comments make sense. However, I still say that these men should not be judged. Personally, I think it's too time-consuming to do all that, but there are those who do not know who some of the officers are and this is a good way to get information. Just give me more Jesus and I'm happy.
Don't know why this video popped up again but I wasn't going to say anything but now I am. In this time we need not be having no Titles on anything but as believers true believers we need to come together and be not divided. I use to be apart of COGIC but I departed. It asks for money all the time, I felt like it was a show sometimes, and just like the guy said come let us celebrate the greatness leader and church. Jesus was not in no competition.... All these titles of these churches should stop its a division
