Churchill lived next door to Sir John Lavery, an Irish born artist. Sir John was best friends with Michael Collins, the IRA leader. Lady Lavery was very outgoing and also a painter. She taught Sir Winston how to paint a gift which he credited to saving his life from the black dog of depression. Lady Lavery was the model used by Sir John to depict Erin, the enigmatic emblem of Eire (Ireland) which was on every Irish monetary note until the adoption of the Euro in the 1990s. There's no doubt that Sir John Lavery was the go-between between Churchill and Collins.
As a Indian I would equate Churchill with Hitler & Stalin. In my view he should have been tried as a war criminal for the atrocities committed by him, his govt and his country on India. One example is the Bengal famine when he diverted the food from Kolkatta to UK saying British lives were more important than Indians. A horrible man no wonder Karma is catching up in his family.
Interesting summary but I really can’t take computer generated voices. Please get anyone to give them a human voice so many like me will watch over two minutes 😢
My favorite Winnie story was during the 30s when he was being loathed and ignored. A colleague especially hostile to him lost his own mother. Winston wrote the most beautiful of condolence letters about mothers and what the loss of a mother would mean. This magnanimity was his best character trait and sorely missing in our times.
Back in the late 90's we rented a home in Richmond, Virginia and my daughter made friends with a young man that was/is the Great grandson of old Winnie. He had cool pictures of his family at his Mothers house that he showed me one day when i gave him a ride home. He is from the American side of the family i'm told.
My grandfather always reminded me of Winston Churchill, what I saw him sitting painting out side with his jacket and hat on. I have his artist's pallet he used. And cipear painings done in 1916. And 1922. He used oils later on in life. Going to Devon and Cornwall with friends from the royal society of artists in new street Birmingham. He meet his second wife when she liked a picture on display. But was waiting for her late husband's money to be paid to her. Grandad was in the same situation as my na Nan had passed away also. When I was only 10 at this time of when it happened. God rest their souls, and Winston Churchill. Amen
@@peterbradshaw8018 Churchill was practically broke until he won the Nobel prize for literature in 1953. Although his father was the second son of the Duke of Marlborough, he didn't inherit much.
The Churchill only became significant due to World War II. He was a descendant of Marlborough, so he was eating off that man himself. In comparison with Marlborough he had some existential crisis, only solved due to WWII.
I think you wanted to write "...he was a nice guy But was married to an American". Joking. If Churchill did nothing except his WWII work, he would have done more than enough.
But Indian not think about that hate black. And white they are skin. And not accept marriage with black. But with British and white is ok. Brain wash by British
What utter rubbish .If you'd bothered to do some proper historical research, instead of relying on the usual hysterical anti colonialist piffle ,you'd know that Churchill had tried numerous times to have grain shipments re routed to India but it was the Amercians, whose ships they were refused to do so.Any blame should therefore be attached to the US.
I didn’t know Charlie Chaplin was one of Winston Churchill’s kids! Wow - so he was really Charlie Churchill. I guess being a comedian he needed to change his name.
I sat beside Randolph at a dinner in New York -fundraiser for Cambridge U...funny 'cos I'm an Oxford gal, but homesick is homesick. He was courteous but not very outgoing...had a very unusual childhood...probably quite overwhelming. Either way, scintillating convo aside, I was delighted to meet him.
He loved the British Empire, primarily out of pride for its great achievements, much of which is disparaged by fictional history created by woke post colonial non historians.
I wonder if Winston Churchill's massive alcohol consumption had something to do with his children's bizarre behaviors. I could have been a combination of being raised by an alcoholic thus dealing with his ill tempered personality or the genetic defects brought about by alcohol affecting his sperm.
Absolutely despise this family especially Nicolas Soames the only good thing about this family is Chartwell house in Kent which is in the hands of the national trust.
What horrible and useless lives. Most them did not stay busy and become something themselves. Only Mary made something of herself. Her kids seemed to have done well too.
Mary Soames was a worthy piece of the Churchill legacy. I think the others were just too spoiled to be of much use. Diana, however, was charitable, volunteering for suicide prevention before taking her own life.
He stood up against the Germans attempt to take over Britain by the Nazis, who were heavily racist. They burnt 6 million Jews and 5 million others-Gypsies, Slavs and the mentally defective.. Also racist against blacks. Look up Jesse Owens. You could look this up. This provided a staging group where Canada and the US based their recapture Europe. I use Wikipedia to learn about things like this.
He continued to fight Hitler and the Nazis when many politicians in Britain thought it was hopeless and wanted to sue for peace. He helped the Soviets with military supplies and military actions which delayed the German advance until they got bogged down in winter. He put military forces in North Africa and the Middle East which prevented the Germans from accessing oil and rare metals. Most importantly, he got the US on our side.
My Mother gave birth to 14 children . It was quite common in those days to have large family. I don’t think there was much contraceptives available, except to abstain.
Just about every politician in those days would be considered "racist" by today's guidelines. Many terms and words used were considered acceptable then.
