This film won the NFB its first Oscar® and was also the first documentary to win this coveted award. It presents the strategy of the Battle of Britain, showing with penetrating clarity the relationships between the various forces made up the island's defenses. Here is the Royal Air Force in its epic battle with the Luftwaffe, the Navy in its stubborn fight against the raiders of sea and sky, the coastal defenses, the mechanized cavalry, the merchant seamen and behind them all, Britain's tough, unbending civilian army.
Directed by Stuart Legg - 1941 | 21 min

I had forgotten that Commander Adama aka Lorne Greene was Canadian. What a deep rich voice.

Only seconds in, we are told something unbelievable, that the Strait of Dover is no wider than the St. Lawrence or the Mississippi. Misleading as to the St. Lawrence, as this refers to the estuary in salt water; flat-out untrue in every way concerning the Mississippi, which is only half as wide at its widest, the point where it forms a lake. The English Channel is over 20 mi. wide at its narrowest.

It looks like UK was prepared but what you dont see is field guns and tanks. All left in France. Good thing Britain had the biggest navy in the world.

Churchill is my favorite hero of WWII because he wasn't a coward hiding and hoping for an unobtainable peace. He saw what was happening and properly called it out. Unfortunately in our new age the enemies come from within because we invited them in the foolish liberal desire for multiculturalism when some cultures are 100% intolerant when they certain thresholds of population. I have no wish for war but I don't want to be ruled by any out of control state or theocracy either.
