JR Seeger served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne and as a CIA officer for a total of 27 years federal service. Since his retirement, JR has written articles and book reviews in the CIA professional journal "Studies in Intelligence" and the TE Lawrence Society newsletter.
MIKE4 was his first novel and the first in a six part series about a family who have served in the special operations and intelligence community from World War II to the present.
In 2020, JR has started a new series focusing on the early twentieth century competition among the great European powers. Part fantasy, part thriller, the first book, “A school for the Great Game,” looks at the first decade of the last century through the eyes of a teenager.
JR splits his time between WNY and New Mexico.

JR is a first class man! Intelligent, thoughtful, and always willing to listen but decisive. Very effective officer. I worked for him from 2006-2008, when he sadly retired.

Incredible show. So good to hear a guest praised by other guests in their books. And then by the end of this show, you see how many books and content JR has gotten out in print. Incredible guests, on this channel, and this just explains in depth how good our US govt really is, and your guests are why.

Knew JR's younger brother from that small town near Buffalo. Probably last saw JR when he was in his 20's and remember always thinking he was one of the most interesting guys in the world. He was so cool.

This interview spurred me to your $10 Patreon. You turned on the starter and he ran well, offering an organized discussion. ( PS- at about age 60 and into 1990's and post 9/11, I tried to enlist as an urban-no extraction sniper. I had a colonel who tried to explain me and my worth supporting (urban, out to 1000 yards with MY rifle and scopes as an inexpensive but effective killer) Army or Marines to supply my choice of non-issue ammunition, but understanding I was expendable.) I am 77 now and still want to go where needed. Now, at my age, my ending my life is not a problem-Kipling and I can still hide , shoot and invisibly move. I understand that role in my conscience.

I am thankful that men like JR are willing to take such incredible risks for the rest of us. My main question is - If JR were trying to convince a future statesman to use these methods (early insertion of paramilitary types) what would be his strongest argument for a return to this type of mission - given the risk, payoff, and the ultimate outcome of the war?

Its interesting. I saw the previous video with the CIA guy on the find osama bin laden mission. Both he and this guy seem very sane and normal. It's hard to reconcile the CIA's reputation for skullduggery and the normal people who work there. Great video.

Saw an interview a few years ago of Walid Al Hajj, Sudanese AQ fighter and one of the prisoners in Qala i Jangi, with Egyptian journalist Ahmed Mansour, in Arabic. He said the reason why the prisoners revolted was because of the way the 2 Americans, Spann and Tyson, were treating them. Basically they were playing bad cop bad cop in a situation where they should have at least been good cop good cop. No 5D chess master deceit plan. Spann and Tyson messed up. Another interesting thing Al Hajj said was that he was introduced to jihad in Afghanistan by a Saudi who organized everything for him and Al Hajj mainly did it for money. Funny all these Saudi and Pakistani ISI connections to AQ yet the CIA never followed those leads I wonder why….

After 9/11, the only passenger plane to fly was Binladen's family leaving the USA. Why? Wasn't there some questioning to be done there, a little bit of info on his whereabouts?? That was a dumb decision to let them fly away. This was a Slap in the Face of Every American, after what had just happened.

Great interview, maybe my favorite so far. JR, you are a badass,thank you for your service. Side note question. Why are the standards for hiding porn star faces (fully hidden or pixilated) higher than hiding sensitive / under cover CIA faces (with just the eyes blacked out)? Looks oks like just about blown cover to me.

You know this guy is right. When he said there are no afghans and that is exactly what Americans don't understand. We are a nation and have national ties and pride. Other countries are just line drawn on a map by someone else.thats is exactly why when we try ti nation build hat it always fails in certain parts of the world is because ee dint understand that they are different culturally and don't think like we do and don't see themselves as belonging to a nation but tribes and so on. what im about to say proves my point. Around 2014 or so i worked at a place where i met a guy from Around there and when i asked him were was he from and what was he he said everything but Afghanistan. He was a kurd. I tried for days to find what i though was a country that he said he was from and finally gave up because i knew that my bosses tood me he was from Afghanistan. It wasn't yntil years later thatni finally understood with a lil more research.
