This video is about rebatching old soap scraps. There are a number of way this can be done. This new method called the "ciaglia method" is named after the Italian soapmaker Fabio Ciaglia who started it.
This method of rebatching is not for fixing soaps that have issues but rather a way to recycle perfectly good or old soaps that's lost its fragrance, faded colour etc. if you don’t like the normal rebatching method that uses heat.
It's a wonderful technique to add texture in layers but it can be very tricky. It creates a really lovely fine speckled look in the finished bar. I have merged two soap making videos using this method. Both having the same base oil formula except replacing olive oil with cocoa butter and adding titanium dioxide in the second video to show the rate of saponification between both the batches.
DISCLAIMER: I am an artisanal soap maker who loves to make handcrafted soaps using the cold process method of soap making. I make these videos to share my own personal methods and techniques for how I make cold process soap. These videos are not intended as tutorials. Cold process soapmaking has many variables and involves working with sodium hydroxide (NaOH, also referred to as lye). Lye and raw soap can damage your eyes and burn your skin. When making soap, you should already know and practice lye safe handling procedures and always wear safety gear. Any opinions or statements made are just my own research, I'm not a health professional.
