Just tied 3 of these up! Very nice and convenient pattern! My local fly shop is selling them for $4.50 each (and running out in prep for brood x). I had all these materials easily on hand, amd was able to make what i think is a better looking cicada! Thank you!
The Cicada also works as just a general summer attractor fly, I'd suggest shaping the foam to more of a beetle or ant pattern. You can make all kinds of variations with the materials that come in the box
Is there a recipe with material list? So many unanswered questions....where do I find precut foam? Is there a model or cutter size I should find? What’s the thickness of the foam?...leg thick, medium or thin?
We do a monthly fly tying box where we supply all of the materials. We have our own cutter so unfortunately there isn't a cutter on the market for this particular pattern. We use 3mm black foam you can get at a craft store. I hope that helps
