Cicely is an important figure in the history of American cinema, her work pushed forward better portrayals for Black actors in Hollywood. Her film Sounder was the first mainstream studio backed all Black film in which Black actors didn't play stereotypes. Her films Fried Green Tomatoes, Diary of a Mad Black Woman and The Help are well liked and remembered. Odds Against Tomorrow and Last Flag Flying are good too. Not to mention her numerous work on American television which had her nominated for so many Emmys of which her best known was Roots. An Honorary Oscar is to award an actor's entire filmography because they are recognised for having delivered many Oscar worthy performances but just having never won an Oscar. It's her peers recognising her for her work because she has been a well regarded actress in the acting community and it's a consolation prize for saying sorry for not having recognised you when you so deserved much better during your career.

The Real Tamartian I care about the technical categories. A lot of people cares too. Without any of the tech people, you don't have any film. They are extraordinary professionals as the screenwriters, actors and directors. They work are extremely important too. The Academy should remind that and prevent The Oscars to become some People Choice Awards, only focus on the "celebrities categories" (actors and actresses) instead of ensemble work of writing, acting, directing and technical department.

As a child, the movie, "Sounder ", was my first movie going experience. Ms. Tyson's remarkable body of work is phenomenal. She is an icon in the community that she represents. At the age of 93, she is radiant.
