Im not the best at explaining but from what I've learnt, is when we solve a quadratic by factorising or completing the square we are essentially working it out as a reflection so we are solving the parabola/equation in a mirror but since we need the actual points/numbers we change the sign of the number from positive to a negative or a negative to a positive. we do this so that the parabola/equation is no longer a reflection but the real thing I hope this makes sense If it doesn't I can try reexplain for you :)
