I found it especially beautiful because of the atmosphere: the respect for music and dance, spontanously, on the middle of the street. Think about all the people who get culture only in theatres these days and have no clue about their roots.
Beautiful sentiment and this is one reason why I have become a supporter of the Roma people. Who have you ever hurt? Who have you ever invaded? Good for you. There are many civilized people in the world who love the beauty of your creation.
I like gipsy dance because you all don´t know what it´s all about. It´s about dancing when the whole world is against you, and still standing up. Stand up!
A 💯 this dance is actually a sped up version of the Hungarian slap dance and every bit of it including that accordion is of Hungarian culture which Gypsies enhanced and sped it up. Gypsies take on the culture of the labs they are in and add that gypsy touch to it because they were performers for kings and things like that! These are Hungarian Gypsies as I am Hungarian and can tell by the music
The generations keeps changing and being more modernised, if you are gypsy you know what I mean. This put a smile to my face, cana penel manga muro dad dol timpuri purane, ca sas mai sucar. O del te ajutil tumenge 💜♥️💛🤗
Actually MansaMusa8 and others the Romani (Gypsy) came from when a group of Indians numbering in the thousands were taken out of India by Mahmud Ghazni in the early 11th century and incorporated as ethnic units, along with their camp followers, wives and families, to form contingents of Indian troops to serve in the Ghaznavid Emirate in Khurasan as ghazis and in the bodyguard of Mahmud and his successors.
I love the way the net works. I just wrote this song out and we are going to play it live -here in Hot Springs, Arkansas at the BrauHaus. Pass the music on! Viva Roma!
чудові танці, гарна музика - зараз люди вже не вміють так танцювати .. а ті хто ображає цих людей (як у попередньому пості) - хай піде і поцілує кота під хвіст .... ;-)
So cool. Looks kind of like "Jitter Bug" dancing which was a great era in America during and after WW2. People were happy under hardship. We need more of this these days. Even "old folk" can have fun.
You are correct, the word "gypsy" derives from the word "Egyption". The gypsies originated in India. When they would arrive at a new country they would answer anyone who asked where they were from that they were from Egypt rather than India. It wasn't concidered very classy if you told anyone you were from India.
They were skilled traders by this time and many experts believe that the worlds first bank Med-Gypt Central Bank was founded based on an intricate network of lending and borrowing funds and trading practices established by Gypsies in the Mediterranean in this era. Their Music is a hodgepodge of Mayan Dance, Tex Mex, West Indian, Mali Niger Blues, 12th century Reggae, Baroque, Balkan and Classical. Early influences of their music and are believed to be triggered by MC Hammer.
Hi Jasmine! Thank you. It is tapping the "legs" specifically that I have never seen before. I don´t know too much of the culture more than reading. Films, pictures are all brand new for me. I got amazed while watching this video cause here at Brasil we got so many rhytms but people use to tap on instruments, pans, hands, not on legs and I always did tapping on my legs when friends plays guitars with several rhytms. Wonder that genetic is always present even when unkown.Sorry for the English
I've always wanted to be a gypsy, ever since I was a kid. To me, they seemed to move wherever the wind would take them, dancing and singing as they went. Their culture fascinated me beyond words. They seemed to have their own tight community and didn't seem to care what anyone else thought. To this day, I wish I could have been a part of the Nomads I once saw. It wasn't until I was older and realized most people hated them. I still don't understand it. EVERY race steals, why only blame them?
Most of the ones claiming gypsies as thieves were the ones stealing from gypsies (Roma) Stealing their culture (Irish Travelers) Stealing gypsy children to sell as slaves then claiming gypsies were stealing non-gypsy babies to cook in their dishes
As a gypsy myself, we don't steal. It's simply that being opressed turns people criminal no matter the skin color, also since we are always a minority we are easier target for racism so it's basically opression 100% of our lives simply for having different culture and skin color
WE ARE ALL PEOPLE!!! why is so important for you to see the differeces? why can't we all love each other and live together in peace and harmony? We could have a better live... a better world... a biger smile... :-)
Gypsies in every country are different but also have many similarities...for example, here in Croatia they have different customs than in maybe Poland...they absorb the culture of the land they live in in their own unique style.
I agree, there are definite geniuses among them, I personally like their ability to cope with various life situations and of course I admire their vivid, lively anima and temper too. One shouldnt look down on them just becuse they are different. I live in a country where we are lucky to have gypsies and having them adds more colour to the countrys image. --> read on down the next post
Just nowadays have they realized; catching up with a civilization around is for their own benefit, keeping traditional identity is still an option they have and they arent forced to give up their dances, music and traditions for the better.I see the situation evolving day by day hopefully. Cheers.
Wow! A bunch of bigotry against the Rroma... how novel. Of course, I have never seen THAT before. Nais tuke LecsoDrom. Shukar video! I love the archival stuff. Sastipe!
Mohan Krishan I am a Gypsy man and gypsies has no “business “ with India it’s been proven by Israelite scientists with DNA testing. We’re Gypsies basically from the Holy Land and surrounding areas.
These proto-Romanies remained in Anatolia for two to three hundred years and during that time they abandoned their military way of life and took up a nomadic lifestyle based on artisan work, trading, animal dealing and entertainment. Gradually, small groups wandered westwards across the Bosporus to Constantinople and from there up into the Balkans to reach Central Europe by 1400, leaving local groups in all the regions they had passed through.
It wasn't until Spanish Colonialism that this culture was first introduced to West Africa through the Slave trade. During the Gypsy cleansing Wars of Timbuktu, many of these Mayan and Spanish Immigrants Fled to North East Africa mostly in Egypt. This is when these people were branded with the name Gypsy. Gypsies were always a Nomadic people but with access to the Mediterranean Sea they became even more nomadic.
As a PHD in Anthropology I am delighted to provide you all with some insight. When I was in my early 30s I too was faced with the question "from where do Gypsies originate?"
I gave it to my friend but, I think the last name was Shapiro. It was a paperback and very informative. Gypsys are very misunderstood. Sorry, I can't remember much.
Hi! Well, this style of "leg tapping" is mostly used in traditional Eastern European dances. It's not a typical Romani thing. It doeas look cool though:) All the best!
@9nero99 actually over 900 yrs ago a large group left india, but it's not known why, some say it was the invasion of muslims, or they were originally slaves in egypt, does it really matter, my people have enriched every country they have passed through, example- spanish flamenco- news flash our dance, as are many other cultural things adopted by others, we in turn have adopted from guajo's (non gypsies- Romani), and yes i am romani though i am not a full blood, i am didiki . love to all things
Hi! I've seen a couple of the archival dance videos on your feed and I'm interested in possibly licensing some of the footage for a documentary - do you own the copyright? Do you have more information about where these came from and how one could obtain higher-resolution versions?
