Nice piece. Too bad manufacturers get carried away with trying to make the SAA "safer".

Very nice! That 4.75" BBL really looks sexy BATJAC. I'd love to get one of those in .44 Special. I picked up a load of new Starline Brass and 240 gr Cast SWC Bullets and, Primers. Now I need to find some Alliant Unique powder to make myself some Skeeter Loads. Thanks for sharing another great video with us. Stan in Idaho

Hey batjack beautiful SAA. I figured i would share some info on the 5vs6. I was always taught to load 5 as well. This all started for me when reading colt ads. Every first gen ad ever made by colt from 1870s-1940s stated to load 6 and use the safety notch( the 1st click in a 4 click hammer.)they even state this is safe to do.. going threw military trials, military Doctrine, and even civilian court. There was no mention I ever found stating to load 5. I have always been told it started at the military trials. That the safety broke causing the gun to fire....this didnt happen. The only thing on the colt that broke was the half cock. They go out of there way to state it was a clear and obvious manufacturing defect on the hammer is why it broke. This made me think of all the changes made to the 1st gen SAA . There were a lot! Over 40 changes. If this was a problem why did they not fix it. They fixed every other problem. Or why hasnt colt been sued for false advertising. I am a engineer and using CAD i found it takes around 1000ft pounds to break. Its the trigger pin that breaks first. I ran this test on the crappiest steel i could for worst case scenario. Using the steel thats on modern guns like this uberti. It takes closer to 1400 foot pounds to break. The truth is that the reason for loading 5 is not what people think. The gun is perfectly safe with 6. The flaw that makes it unsafe is how you put the safety on. You would load 6 then from halfcock you have to go to full cock. then pull the trigger riding the hammer forward. If you slip riding the hammer forward with the trigger pulled....boom. So they werent scared of the safety breaking. they were scared of how you put the safety on. The military did in one scenario load five not six. Military inspection parades. The one time having a negligent discharge from sliping off the hammer would be worst.

At some point I'll get a single action Army. The big question is whether or not to get a reproduction, which I have no issues with, or an original. Snapper has been using the Jedi Mind Trick on me and an original is not our of my reach. For that kind if money though, I'd rather get an original Starr revolver and an original Colt Pocket Model

38-40. Funnily enough I have dies for that but have never had one, I use them for neck sizing blanks so they don’t stick in the cylinder
