MLB posting about their own mistakes
@TeemoQuinton
@TeemoQuinton 6 лет назад
Necroposting: The only mistake was on the Red manager and players for fucking it up. Be it waiting too long to challenge, not calling attention to it and of course being too slow anyways. The GRD mostl ikely puts one of the runners at home, even with the fielding they couldn't beat him so a review wouldn't have changed it, period.

@dcmkd1
@dcmkd1 6 лет назад
No they didn't, the only person with a perfect view of the GR was LF. He didn't call it so it's his fault. Maybe a bit of blame on the manager and the rest of the team for not calling it but either way none of them called it. Don't blame the umps for that.
@Kartracer6
@Kartracer6 6 лет назад
That's total BS. Giving a coach 10 seconds to protest is unacceptable. I'm sure the LF's first thought wasn't "what is considered a HR" his first thought is to get the ball home and worry about the review later. This is a poor decision by the MLB and I'm not sure why the Reds decided not to protest this play because the Umps clearly failed.

Rule needs to allow the manger more than 30 seconds on a game ending play and require the umpires to remain on the field until the manager has run out of time
@colejames423
@colejames423 5 лет назад
Are you not the brightest or what? If it's a "game ending play," there's literally no reason for the losing team's manager to sit around and think it over for 30 seconds. There's nothing to lose by challenging. Price should have been out of the dugout the second Carpenter slid into home.

You have 30 seconds to challenge a play, right? If the play ended at 0:15, the reds should have until 0:45 to challenge, and the manager leaves the dugout right before 0:45, so he should be able to challenge. But the umpires had left at 0:35, so he didn't have the chance to challenge! This is on the umpires for leaving too early and the play should have been reviewed and overturned (unless there's some rule I don't know about)

Exactly. The umpires never should have left that soon, but Price should have been out there talking to them before they'd even took a step towards the tunnel. He obviously didn't know what was going on it seems, if all the umps were already gone by the time he started looking for them.

The question is, did the umpires rush off the field too soon or did they give the Reds ample time to contest the call? Usually, you would only need a minute to say whether you want to contest it. It seems to me that the umpires rushed off the field too soon. Usually they like to get off the field as soon as possible.

I've been an umpire for almost 30 years and this is why I HATE the way that they put pictures and writing and stuff like that on the outfield fences.You see all of those pictures of former Cardinal players and then you see some more pictures over that on the extension and it is hard to see a little white ball (5 and1/4 inches) and where it hits. MLB needs to mandate that all fences in the outfield be green (or black because that would give the best contrast) and would help the umpires call that. You have to think, the closest umpire to that fence is around 200 feet away. He has to hustle, as fast as he can, toward the ball, which is small, and see where it hits and where it bounces. The biggest complaint I would have in this situation is the 30 second rule. On a game or inning ending play, I think they ought to up it to a minute to make sure it's gotten right. After all, that's the reason everybody gives for IR. To make sure the call is right! (sneer), yeah, RIGHT!

Clearly, a ground rule double. However, since the Reds left fielder played the carom off the sign above the wall, the play continued. (The fielder was likely unaware that the signs are above the wall). In fairness, the Cardinals should paint a line on top of the wall, delineating the top of the wall, and the bottom of the signs.

The play ended at 0:13 and the manager wants to argue at 0:46. MLB gives the managers a 30 second rule to challenge, however the manager was late by 3 seconds. The players are supposed to know the bounds of the field and if they don't spot it 30 seconds after the play is over it's fair! :D

Except the umps were off the field in like 20 seconds. Maybe he was asking someone where the umps were then he went to find them.

Yea but even if he took that long the umpires weren't even on the field for them to make the challenge

bigsteed007 I'm sorry, in what part of the rule book does it say that response time is more important than rules of the game. And to add what's the point of this fancy review system if we don't use it. Your comment is bogus

The rule is that there is a 30 second window to challenge. The play happened at 0:15, and Price attempted to find the umpires at 0:35 only see them gone. So no, it's not "you snooze, you lose". And I'm not a fan of an NL team, it meant nothing in the standings for me.

TheVrmn8r, I was simply making a joke about this video in general and don't overly care about baseball but if you want to be serious, I've never seen a manager or team react this slow on what looks to be an easily seen ground ruled double. Most managers would have been flying out of the dugout while the other team was still celebrating at home plate! In this case, they were snoozing! And they lost because of it!

It's not the left fielder's job to call a ground rule double. The umpires walked off the field too early that's been confirmed. I know you said it was a joke, but in all seriousness this was on the officials.

No reason for it to be a ground rule double if it is still in the field and taking a hop off the wall.

This is like saying it can't be a homerun if it bounces back onto the field.

Classic MLB...posting your own failures...nice headline of "Reds think it should be a ground rule double". It WAS a ground rule double. It was MISSED by MLB umpires.
