Former Cincinnati Bengal and sports commenter Solomon Wilcots joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss his time at the NFL combine and who impressed him the most when it comes to who the Bengals should target with their first-round pick.
Lap and Solomon discuss what a lot of Bengal fans are debating right now, should the Bengals take or trade up for TE prospect Brock Bowers or take their future right tackle with their first-round selection?
It's a win-win for the Bengals at pick #18 because anyway they decide to go they will be getting an immediate impact player. With the 2024 tackle class being one of the best in recent memory one or maybe two of those tackles will be there and would immediately start at right tackle. On the other hand, the Bengals haven't had a solid long-term tight end since they drafted Tyler Eifert in 2013. Brock Bowers is viewed by many to be a generational-type prospect and the idea of him, Jamaar Chase, Tee Higgins, and Joe Burrow all together is very exciting to think about. The Bengals did sign free agent Mike Gesicki, to a one-year deal but the Bengals need to address the position in the draft as they haven't drafted a tight end since Drew Sample in 2019.
Let us know in the comments below who you would draft in the first round! Brock Bowers or right tackle?

Theyre not getting bowers. They just resigned two of their te, and got another one.

Is this really still a question after not addressing RT at all? No way we should take a 6'3 TE over a RT for the future. BTW all those weapons won't be that great with Browning throwing the ball and Burrow in a sling again. He has been hurt 2/4 years. The 2 he was healthy we went to the SB and the AFC Champ game. Stop the insanity and draft a RT to protect Joe

The problem is we have drafted first round tackles and they are always garbage. I don't know what it is about our evaluation that is wrong but I don't know that we would pick the right guy

@@timcloe he didn't have a history of injuries in college. We had no reason to believe that he would be hurt

@chadpayne956 lol. He wasn't ever healthy. He was a bust plain and simple. Anyone can bust at any position. This draft is very strong at RT. We don't have a RT. I like Joe burrow and believe without him our season is over. So flashy weapons are meaningless without protection. If we had addressed RT in any meaningful way this would be a great topic

All these QB success stories where a TE put them over the top, fail to mention that their teams had strong elite olinemen in that group. Every year the bengal mouth pieces start this crap where they start diminishing the value of the Oline. Every year, this remains proven false by not winning suoerbowls. Dumb.

I don’t want Bowers we got Gesecki and Hudson .. Need to go Mims or Fuagua at 18 Absolutely no Alabam OTs def not Latham penalty machine he’s Evan Neal 2.0z. Wouldn’t be mad even if we went Brian Thomas Jr or Jerzhan or Byron Murphy at 18 Anybody but Latham

What a shit FA we have 4 safeties lol we have no explosive rb we have a washed te, no lockdown corner, no rt no NT, a pissed off tee Higgins, $35m in cap space, but hey the reunion with von bell was worth it, Duke Tobin is a 🤡 and Mike Brown is a genius for getting Hamilton county to pony up another $150m

We have 10 draft picks to fill those holes. They'll take a TE and a RB for sure and the Bengals never miss

We didn't have an explosive running back anyways. That's their problem with Joe $8 million 4 yd Per carry

This is one of the best OL draft classes in a while. The only part I don't like is losing Reader.
