Cincinnati to MLS: How FC Cincinnati created a phenomenon in the U.S. Open Cup 

As a European, we've always kinda mocked the football culture in the US, it felt like the people didn't get it. But now, what's happening in cities like CIncinnati, Atlanta, Orlando, etc, it feels like they understand why it's a religion in lots of parts of the world, it's great, it's exiting to see the conversion and how the world's game in winning over a country who was mocking the sport not long ago. That's the power of football my friends, the beautiful game is for the people, make it your own.

They may be in the same league as my beloved OKC Energy FC but my hat is off to the wonderful folks at FC Cincinnati. You all have been a gem in the USL and I'm rooting for you all to get that MLS slot.

Good to see Americans actually caring for the biggest sportbin the world :) a strong, and interested USA in football enriches the game.

Maybe as a suggestion, could you guys do a video on the MLS expansion sides? At least the ones the commissioner mentioned as frontrunners.

This video does a great job of showing the primary reason this club is clicking...beyond attendance these are people not just showing up to a sporting event or rooting for a team the level of engagement between fan and club in cincy is off the charts

I'm a Chicago Fire guy and this is in my feed. I am happy to remember the magical run that FC Cincinnati had, and I want to congratulate them again for being in MLS. The first couple of years at the top tier have been a challenge but I salute the fans that got them here and I am noticing some quality transfers that speak to a brighter future. We're happy to have you, and God bless the Cleveland Browns for keeping the Crew in Ohio.

As a German I have seen a lot of videos about FCC and their fans. They deserve to be in the MLS. Better than a lot of european clubs.

I'm a season ticket holder and if FCC doesn't get one of the expansion spots the MLS are just holding themselves back.

4:06 Later down the line we became supporters shield winners in 2023 far ahead of second place Orlando and look like MLS Cup favorites so it's going pretty good.

I'm a columbus crew fan but these fans deserve owners that can put a good team on the field. They have been terrible since joining mls but the fans still show.

Yes bring them to the MLS. I watched them play USL vs Toronto FC ii and was impressed by there play and by the traveling support. 50 up in Canada and it was pouring rain. I met two fans after the game and swapped scarfs with them lovely couple and proud to have my Cincinnati Scarf !. Also got to meet Justin Hoyte was a great guy chatted for a bit. looking forward to seeing more positives from this club

That 'child sport' comment is exactly why there is a glass ceiling for the achievements that American football (not fucking hand egg!) can attain. They will never take it as seriously as a nation as they do American football (hand egg)

Galaxy fan here, and sometimes I just wish the mls would fold. Small town teams are what create an amazing atmosphere and pride in which the teams thrive on. They also create natural rivalries, and not forced ones like the "Cali classico" . Love my big city team but, wouldn't mind supporting a local team that could actually go through the drama of being promoted.

NYCFC fan here. I think it would be a CRIME to MLS fans around the country if FCC does not expand in ASAP. The more clubs with fan bases like this in MLS the better for ALL MLS fans.

Nice! English guy living in Denver, and would love to have a real team to support here. The Rapids are way out on the edges of town, and the whole culture around them seems dull at best. If there were a clearer route to the MLS (i.e. promotion from lower leagues), I'd jump at the chance of helping to start a club here.

my suggestion for the Pro Rel for US is a hybrid of the current model with a lot of classic prorel system. so If I were incharge, you would still need to buy a franchise but instead of $100M, it would be $20M and you'd have to start in Div. 2 Div. 2 would have 20-24 teams and Div. 1 would have 18 - 20 teams. my idea is a working progress. what can you say??

I like that proper football is growing in my country but the US is still a long way from being a football nation, it feels like recently the national team has been taking steps back in international football

I feel as if MLS is just a closed system. It should have a system just like the rest of the world: Promotions and relegations. You have to work hard and have to strive to be on top. Not just play, win and then play in the same league again if your team won. You have to want to be the top in the country or else if you are relegated, you’re no longer. I think if MLS has a promotion and relegation system, it will make Americans love the beautiful game even more and make more fans die hard fan for their state. Then again, no one is starting a movement, or none that I’ve heard of. I wish I could but I’m just a 15 year old.

Here's why Cincinnati is a soccer town. SAY soccer started in 1967 (50 years ago) and grew to 29,000 players in SW Ohio and Northern KY by 1977, many of those players still live here. They are now in their 50's and 60's. Many of them coached their kids. Every High School in the area has had soccer for at least 25 years. There are more people in Cincinnati that have played or coached soccer, than any other sport. Cincinnati is working on a third generation of families that have played. Cincinnati is a soccer town and should have had an MLS team before Columbus. The downside of getting an MLS team will be the ticket prices. They'll lose 30-40% of todays season ticket holders when they get MLS because the prices will be 50% higher. FC Cincy is already raising ticket prices for 2018, but hey they are still reasonable (for now). They will continue to draw fans as a USL team. MLS will be risky. And they better not put the stadium in KY or they'll lose the large fan base in northern Cincy.
