MLS is on fire! Atlanta, LAFC, Nashville, Miami... and now Cincinatti ! As a new MLS fan, it´s getting harder and harder to choose a team to support. The fans´ passion is hitting new heights every season.
If I was a new fan, and not in a major city like Chicago or NYC or LA, I would gravitate toward Atlanta United, LAFC or Portland. Those fan bases and stadiums are amazing. who is your team right now?
Jonathan B. David Right now, Atlanta is my favorite. The support for soccer in that city is amazing. Besides, Almiron is my favorite young player and I hope that he can find a bright future as an international star.
I am a Chicago fire fan! But lafc is my second favorite team!! Atlanta United is great too! What a stadium m supporters group! Josef Martinez is the man along with Almiron! European clubs I’m sure are taking notice! Atlanta United is a great club to support!
Taylor isn't wrong in saying FCC have only been around for 3 years but Cincy has a soccer culture that has been built up for several years prior to FCC. There was the indoor team Cincinnati Excite then the Kings had a rivalry with Louisville Lightning as well as there being a Kings outdoor team in the PDL. Now there's the USL rivalry. If Columbus does move, without Louisville who will Cincy hate? Louisville City should be an MLS team. They've been a force since joining the USL.
Trust me, I’m very familiar with Phoenix and Cincinnati and Cincinnati is much more deserving of an MLS team. If it were me I wouldn’t go to Phoenix personally. Not because I hate the city but because almost every team has had problems drawing fans so I wouldn’t expect anything different from Phoenix rising. Trust me, Phoenix is my favorite city and all of my favorite sports teams are the Phoenix major 4 teams but I’m constantly told that the coyotes should move and shouldn’t have ever been considered and anyone who supports the coyotes is an absolute joke simply because the team is in the desert, and I wouldn’t want to put a team that’s going to possibly be ridiculed and fans heckled by a league. You wouldn’t think it would happen but it does
@Tiffany W Ya but we don't suck ass like the *cough* Coyotes *cough*. Jokes aside, just like Cincinnati phoenix/Arizona finally have a team we can believe in. That is what is going bring in the crowds.
That's Debatable not with the Diamondbacks being contenders but the coyotes are on a upswing right now, the suns have the first overall pick, the cardinals have picked such a good quarterback and finally don’t have a QB older than dirt. Trust me it’s not that teams suck or not usually but soccer is no where close to on the scale in Phoenix as it is in cincinnati. Seattle though is the only other city outside of cincinnati I’ve found any relevance of soccer in, though I would like to see Phoenix come in, I believe they stop after Miami for a few years and start to let things settle in
@Tiffany W Its not like the Dbacks are the top of the table or anything. Up swing? If you mean at the bottom of the table as usual, then you would be right. As for the Suns they are terrible that's why tickets are dirt cheap. The suns might have the first overall pick but that doesn't mean squat when the ownership doesn't give a flying fa-doodle. I have hope for the Cards but they say that every year with the picks. But we have to wait and see for that one. Then we have PRFC where they are getting stuff down for the most part and they actually have a clue as compared to everyone else besides baseball right now. Man sometimes you have to admit defeat. The Coyotes are garbage and it was embarrassing when fans got mad when they wanted to get ride of the rink. Being a fan is fine but don't get mad when the franchise falls apart because they are gutter trash. I'm sorry.
Cincinnati might be a boring city to visit but it is a great US soccer city, top 5 US Market for soccer in my opinion it also helps the Bengals and Reds are totally clueless on how to run a professional team.
Robert Lind so let me put up a few places I’m guessing you haven’t visited, Turfway park in Florence, Findlay Market, Smale Park, obviously Over the Rhine, and Newport on the levee? Plus there’s plenty of other parts of the city I don’t even know about
David Schilling Why is it considered a joke? So far, MLS is very successful....it's already the 8th league in the world in both average attendance and revenue.
Guys.... this image is completely flat. Color your footage MLS!!! This is completely unacceptable as a professional channel. Do better... Anyway, congrats to FC Cincinnati!
LOL no it doesn't teams can be mediocre knowing they still stay in the league. Having Promotion and relegation would stop complacency. The MLS is nowhere near the most competitive league in the world.
Still, even though la liga only has 3-4 great teams, they don't have any crap teams because those go away. The MLS franchise model doesn't allow for great teams and protects craps teams. Parity does not equal quality in a sport where all the the talent it's not monopolized by one league, like the NFL. Also in Europe the big clubs real competition is the champions. Barcelona just won the league and the domestic cup, and it was crap a season because Madrid won the champions. BTW Atletico won the Europa league, and it's usually the spanish teams winning the continental competions. Even though the premier league has more "competition"
Folks r underrated houston. One thing i know is that they can disgrace any team. Trust me, houston might not be in championship but they can disgrace super club in MLS period
Taylor Twellman is a sharp guy. I don't always agree but he presents his points succinctly. Can't say the same for most other American commentators (Alexi Lalas).
Uncontrolled expansion with no regard for global footballing league standards or promotion-relegation. This has never ended badly in America before...except twice with the previous two attempts to create a national league in the 30s and 80s. The idea that we can Americanize everything is as arrogant as it is foolish. So what, MLS will be a single entity 30+ team league? We want a NFL or NBA style league? I don't. Damn these Garber goons for doing this. It will not end well. Even if it half the teams dont fold, this model will stifle MLS and make it an average league, forever. It will never compete with Europe with a single entity model, never. (I say all this as a Cincinnati Bengals and Reds fan)
Urius Tosh It's ironic that the very things that allowed the league to survive and then eventually thrive in the early days, the central control and salary cap are the two things that will ultimately stifle further growth. MLS is clearly not going to implode but under its current system the ceiling is only going to go so high.
Not true. If money was all MLS cared about, Detroit would be in the league right now. Their ownership group is worth billions. But MLS hasn't let them in yet, because the league isn't satisfied with their stadium plans and long-term strategy. MLS has grown to a point where it can be a lot more picky with expansion teams. Cincinnati checked all the boxes and has a beautiful downtown stadium on the way. They will be an excellent addition to the league. Miami will begin play once they have a stadium plan taken care of.
If Cincy doesn't have a good nickname, and everybody just calls them FCC, tables will flip. I can't be the only person who is sick and tired of these alphabet soup names.
@Ruben T what s wrong with fc cincinnati ? it s football club cincinnati, nothing wrong with that. Or you want to call it cincinnati Raccoons, Cincinnati Opossum, Cincinnati Squirrels etc..lol The supporter can add nickname if they want like fans in europe or other football nation do.
DubsBrown But that's just a supporters chant. Portland Timbers fans chant "PT! FC!" But that doesn't mean everybody calls them PTFC. They're the Timbers. Jon petter Nothing is wrong with FC Cincinnati. It's the official name of the team. There's something wrong with the fact that they have no official nickname, and everybody just refers to them by their initials. Squirrels is actually pretty catchy. But their badge looks like a crown, so I'd nickname them the Crowns.
