I remember watching this with my mom back in the day as a kid. Yelling at the tv like; "aye there go moesha ma!" We bonded over this. Both my mom and Whitney were born in 1963; now they are both in Heaven. Rest In Paradise beautiful Queens.
@@devonsiadavis2111 it was money and contractual. I forget if it Brandy’s or Whitneys album company said no because they did not want to label then as a Disney franchise.
@@sydneygreene9852 Rodger and Hammerstein's Cinderella is a musical specifically written for television in the late 1950s. In fact, it started the TV musical trend as we know it, and was adapted into two TV movies, the first with Leslie Ann Warren (The Happiest Millionaire, The One and Only... Family Band), this one being the second. All three of them are here on RU-vid for the entire world to see as they please. Was this comment supposed to be a joke?
TheNotverysocial Nope, and don’t care if you don’t like it☺️ it’s my comment & it was a yes or no question & why are you being rude? I’m not that into all that stuff you just wasted time typing out🤷🏽♀️
@@sydneygreene9852 In which case, I guess you did. If you weren't in the know, you are now. I saw this one first, Leslie Ann Warren second, and Julie Andrews third.
"But the world is full of zanies and fools Who don't believe in sensible rules And won't believe what sensible people say And because these daft and dewey eyed dopes keep building up impossible hopes." After the last five years and especially the last two years these words hit differently.
How are they gonna go and make a version of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella with Brandy and WHITNEY “THE BEST TO EVER DO IT” ELIZABETH HOUSTON as the fairy godmother and NOT release the official soundtrack, I am DISGUSTED
Probably put their brains on hold and thought 'Nobody wants it':) If only there had been a girl version of Aladdin (where Aladdin is a girl but she's called Ali) both Nell Carter and Whitney have proven they would have been AMAZING Genies! And it COULD have been both of them if they went with the Genie of the lamp AND Genie of the ring:)
It was Brandy's record company at the time that didn't want it to be released, because it wasn't her regular sound. I'm in with signing a petition for this to be released.
This will forever be my favorite version. For the diverse cast, the beautiful music and small changes to give everyone a little more depth to their character. Disney's version is a nice pretty plain version but this one, in my opinion is a MASTERPIECE!!!!
From what I read online, the official soundtrack never materialized due to Houston's and Brandy's record companies having a squabble over money. Truly a shame, because this soundtrack puts all others to shame.
2018 still thinking of the impact this movie had on us in 97 to be in middle school growing up seeing nothing but white Disney princesses...whole neighborhood was in the house watching this when it premiered
@@christy1819 Yes agreed and they didn't do it with force like other movies being made today. Its like Nickelodeon, they made shows relatable to middle-class kids, kids diverse. Just a good time. Sad how different it is now.

Whitney bodied this track. The orchestra sits between her vox and Brandy's. Brandy's softer vocal fit her character's storyline-- building confidence throughout. Fairy God Queen Whitney nailed her character's energy. She came to snatch hairlines from jump & help Cinderella transcend the fuckery of influence from her family. Side note: The prince was a snack is all I'll say lol

Thank you for posting this. This by far was the best Cinderella movie, original Roger's and Hammerstein ever produced. It was so well thought out an executed. The casting, well known actors as well as newly discovered, were all superb. And you would have to give (A+) for their versatility Whitney Houston, ( with little Bobbi C. In the oven) Brandi, Bernadette Peter's, Jason Alexander, ) Victor Garber, Whoopi Goldberg, an forgive me (the Asian young man as the Prince. And the two comical step sisters. This was an extremely enyertaining, classical movie, the scenery, the costumes, the dancing and the singing, were of the highest caliber. My daughter is 24 now, she was probably a year and a half, because she could not pronounce " imposssible". When we would sang it together, She sang " im pahibble." Which she still sings lovingly to this day. I am so thankful that Disney produced such a memorable, Classic movie for all people to enjoy, and feel some attachment -You make the Unimaginable - imaginable IT'S PAHIBLE!
REST IN PEACE Whitney Houston.Whitney Houston singing voice was gods gift to the world. She was Unique. I love this Cinderella movie.my sons watch it when they were little. Now my sons are grown. Amazing How Time Fly. god bless
o wow thats cool happy belated birthdaqy but i love this show and the song omg just about every yeatr i would have my uncle record it or he went to the stor blockbuster when we had it and payed cash for it
The fact that we had and it was well received and now we have a black Ariel and the world is throwing a fit. It just proves we’re going backwards in society
+Bridgett Nesby Right? The closest thing we had to a cast like this was Keke Palmer being in the Broadway musical. I wish they'd do a reunion concert even though Whitney is no longer with us (Rest in peace). I swear if they did, they'd be sold out in no time lmao.
I remember watching this on The Wonderful World of Disney back at my dad's when it aired! I was so excited to see it on TV! Had the biggest crush on the Prince😍😘
@MayaWorld Fam Aladdin was dog shit. They made Aladdin a selfish asshole, seriously thought it was a good idea to ditch Jafar turning into a cobra in exchange for Iago just being turned into a big bird, and give Jasmine “a friend” whose sole purpose was to give Genie a girlfriend. It is infuriatingly bad
Absolutely absurd I can’t stream this anywhere else in 2023. Such a great movie and so inspiring for the girls at that time who got to see a little bit of themselves in a black princess. Brandy will always be my Cinderella and Whitney my fairy godmother ❤❤
It’s funny how everybody now is yelling that Ariel is now black Tinker Bell is now black, but when this movie came out, nobody gave a shit if Cinderella was black

It's been so long since I've listened to this... I honestly got emotional and cried a little. 😌 I watched this version of Cinderella growing up WAY more than I did the Disney version - no version of Cinderella compares to this one!
My favorite Cinderella movies will always be Brandy’s Cinderella, Ella enchanted, a Cinderella story, and another Cinderella story. Everything else does not exist.
I first saw this version of Cinderella when I was a little girl, maybe 20 years ago, at a sleep over at a family friend's house. I was SO excited to see it on Disney +. I am a Disney "original" girl through and through, but this rendition is amazing - one of the best Disney remakes, and, dare I say better than the original. The songs are amazing - such beautiful voices, powerful yet elegant. The film set and costumes are also so whimsically amazing. Such a great film
@@bobsburgers8497 Brandy’s agents didn’t want her to just be known for the movie and have been holding the release rights for years if I remember correctly. Apparently they’ve been arguing with Whitney’s agents about it. When Whitney passed, one of the last things she said was that this movie was her greatest accomplishment and failure. Accomplishment because she was proud to be a part of it, but failure because the soundtrack never released. Let’s hope the film release on Disney+ will garner enough interest to get this soundtrack finally released officially.
