@XW10-co7lf not always. Sometimes the hospital will run low on blood if it's not one they can readily get their hands on. O+ is the universal donor so hospitals will try and keep a steady stash of it. The reason they ask the mother is because 9 out of 10 the child will have the same blood type. Very rarely do children share the blood type of their father if it's not the same as the mother. Usually the mother would have to get a medicine that will keep her body from attacking the child due to the foreign blood type. Uncommon cases. But these do happen.
