A Truly excellent list, with _CIty of the Dead, Blood on Satan's Claw, The Wicker Man_ and _Apostle_ being among my favorites. Two movies that could have made the list (though they were set in more modern times) but still dealt with the Occult and Witchcraft with a touch of Folk influence were the British Horror classics _The Night of the Demon (1958)_ and _Burn Witch Burn (1962)._ Thanks again, enjoyed this very much.

Excellent selection including some I havent seen. A bit left field because its a childrens tv series made in England in 1969 and transmitted as several episodes is the adaptation of Alan Garners "The Owl Service". It is too put it mildly an extraordinary early evening show made for kids and it has the most singular, dark and baffling atmosphere. It has the pacing flaws of period tv but it is unlike anything else and genuinely haunting. I see its on RU-vid.

I don't do horror movies anymore because studying the occult is much crazier, but I believe it is important to understand who these people are and their beliefs as they have made it a world wide religion nobody knows they are a part of like the burning man, they didn't even rebrand it and people still don't get it. Great picks, some I have never heard of, thanks for the leads.

Bless you for including and give a recommendation for Mandy - it was my best film of that year - I know so few people who have seen it and they bloody well should. A fantastic film - to look at and listen to as well. How I wish I had seen it on the big screen. The scene where Linus Roache and Andrea Risebrough's faces seen to meld together just blows my mind - and Cage is perfect in this. Love the King Crimson intro as well. Thanks

I meant to add that I hope The Witch is on the list and lo and behold - there it is. That freaked me out - truly scary and few movies really frighten me - this one did. The scene at the end where Black Phillip tells the girl to look at the book on the table and he walks past her - bloody hell. Another great British occult/horror that will fill you with dread is the brilliant Kill List - a movie you think is going one way but then doesn't - it's actually worse. The movie keeps you off balance as nothing feels right - and there's a reason for that, trust me.

Your inclusion of Kenneth Anger’s “Lucifer Rising”, and you properly pronouncing Crowley goes a long way in my estimation of you! You seem to be pretty well-versed in your knowledge of these subjects, and your tastes seem very in line with my own. Thank you for this excellent video, and great selection of movies. Yes, you're right. I've read the Golden Bough. Midsommar didn't fail in that department. I think it failed in execution and originality. Much of it came off as silly and not scary to me. I think the Wicker Man does it much better.

i love the wicker man 1973, midsommar was such a disappointment. it was like lets stick some sheds in a field and try and give it a wicker man vibe. a film has to have the suspension of disbelief. midsommar just didnt. the set looked like it had been knocked up in a couple of days.

I have always loved horror. I started reading and watching it from a very young age. More recently I’ve been leaning into folk horror a lot.The Apostle was a big surprise. I did not expect that to be as great as it is. I have to watch Mandy again. The first time through it there were just some scenes that were too slow. I like a slow burn if it has a good payoff, which Mandy does but there were a lot of scenes with people walking or driving down that road that just went on too long for me but that could have just been a mood I was in or something. Will surely give it another watch. Rosemary’s Baby just never hit with me. I saw it the first time when I was around 12 and it just didn’t scare me at all. It all seemed really telegraphed even then

There was an old horror movie from the 70's or maybe earlier, i remember since i was a kid that had one scene that stuck in my head and I cannot find out the movie. There was a scene with a woman, maybe a witch, she had a white face, hair and a gown or dress, something...it was a night scene with fog and i think a forest too and for some reason that one scene stuck with me to this day and I could never find out what movie that was...maybe it was something real... IDK

totally agree with your assessment of midsommar. i think its a generation thing. youve to your credit have delved into 60s and 70s horror. im 57 now and the wicker man and blood on satans claw have stayed with me for decades. they are both in the unholy trinity of folk horror classics along with witchfinder general.

nice video🙂I recommend in fabric (2018), martyrs, noroi the curse, the black door (2006), wishmaster, werewolf tv series (1987), perdurabo (short film, 2003), the conspiracy (2013), etc. if I remember more i'll write them, i saw almost all every movie in the video but when i watched Mandy i felt that i already saw it, look like others like house of 1000 corpses and the same sub-genre of films like funny games from Haneke, movies like you're next, or the invitation... one of my favorites is the ninht gate 🙂i lost its 1st dvd version from artisan, i buyied in year 2000 at best buy 🥺

Totally in the minority with you. Loved Wicker Man, really loved the Apostle and felt it was pretty amazing and quite underrated, and felt Midsommer was frustrating and a bit corny and just underwhelming, especially if we compare it to the other two. I even watched it three times to give it more than one chance due to all the hype to see if I was missing something, but nope

I seriously disliked the VVitch because it was so unbelievable. It centers on a family of settlers who are exiled from their own community of very religious exiles, presumably due to some degree of perceived heresy. Despite this exile, there is no way that the settlers would not have given them aid when they began to experience problems - historical inaccuracy number one. Also, even if the community *was* hard hearted enough to deny the adults aid, the children were innocent. It is therefore very unlikely that a Christian community would not take the children in, and they would probably not have exiled them with their parents in the first place - historical inaccuracy number two. It also includes an actual coven of Satanic witches living in the forest, when there is no record or even mythology about this in 1600s America - historical inaccuracy number 3. However, what really pisses me off is that it panders to the C17th witch craze narrative that caused hundreds of thousands of deaths by torture, which I find horrible. It's the equivalent of making a horror film with Jews as the folk monsters, based on the entire antisemitic mythology of the last 2,000 years. I can't see why people don't see this. Ther's been a massive revival of the Satanic witch trope in the horror genre and it's utterly sickening. People died due to this crap, and they still die because of it in some parts of the world. Let's not applaud its revival.

Wicker man is fantastic. I also liked the remake with Cage even though most people hated it. And Midsommar except for a good lead actress was really just a shell of a movie, with a totally innecessary backstory with those dead parents and the weak portrayal of a boyfriend (as if boys are really that oppressive and united in each others relationships - just way too fictional). I thought it was very weak. Looked much too good for what it was, especially since the beginning of the movie was so startling and nothing really set out from that.
@obsoleteelite8258
@obsoleteelite8258 7 месяцев назад
With the parents dying it was supposed to be like the cosmos setting a diabolical chain of events into motion. That was the point. The whole thing had an implicit supernatural drive.
@Overlorddz
@Overlorddz 7 месяцев назад
I didn't like the Witch so much. I thought the design was fantastic and the acting as well but I just felt like the writing really missed something. And that scene with the lady in the forest was a bit over the top.
