While watching a Real Flow Tutorial on chocolate I noticed the guy was using a strawberry to do his demo. I decided that I too must have a strawberry. After modeling and texturing mine I decided to share my technique with you all. Enjoy!

Only thing I came about was the collision deformer for R12 and I could not find it, luckily I have R14 as well so I was able to merge my projects easily, I wonder if you could just use collision tags or something to achieve in previous version? Anyways, Great tut! -Charles

whenever you get light blue lines or grey you just click around or go to object mode the box icon on the upper left that says model and object in 13 and 14...if it's just wire frame click on gouraud shading I guess that's what you mean right?

Hi Anna! I have a couple of reasons why I think that might happen. It could be because the seeds are very low poly and that is causing the collision to have low quality collision which would create a "bubble" around your object. It could also possibly be because the lower poly strawberry doesn't have enough edges to make a smooth transition when hypernurbs is turned on. Too much of a change would give strange results. Can you send me your scene file and let me take a look?

Hi Andres, I'm sorry it hasn't worked for you. Are you sure you are making the cloned object, selecting all its children, making them editable and current state to object? Then adding them to the deformer. Also hit the A key a few times. This refreshes your scene and sometimes updates glitching. If this wasn't your issue let me know and I will try and figure out the problem with you some more.

This function was introduced in version R13. Unfortunately to do the same task in R12 it would take a lot more work. :( I don't really know a good way either. I suppose you could try making the base strawberry a soft body dynamic with no gravity. After turning the clones (seeds) into editable polygons make them static meshes and animate the scale as a group to push into the base mesh. Once its in a good position you can deactivate both dynamics systems and make them initial states.

Well I have made chocolate with the strawberries in realflow. But in this specific image at the beginning of the video I took a sphere and gave it soft body dynamics and had it fall on top of the strawberry, waited for it to mold itself around the berry. then froze the dynamics and disabled it. Then textured it to make it look like chocolate.

Thanks for the lesson! What kind of a machine do you work on? My lapnote core i5 does not cope with this workflow! After adding connect>collision>collider>cloner it becomes unmanageable.

I'm not surprised it lagged your computer a lot: you had more than 150 deformers there! You should have converted the seed to object before cloning it to get rid of deformers.

Hi ! I am French, so excuse my bad english x_x... I have cinema 4D r12, and I don't know how to do this : 8:38 It seems that r12 doesn't have any deformer called "Collision"... Do you know how could I make it without that deformer..? :S

For some reason I have too many seeds and they squash together at the top of the berry. Wish I could link an image D: I think I just need to reduce the vertices but how?

I know all about them :) But for the sake of the tutorial I chose not using any plugins was the best option. That way anyone with out of the box C4D R13+ could follow along. You are right tho the gorillas stuff is amazing.

Same here bro... :/ I bought this pc just for graphic and motion design , its a 2.4Ghz quad core, double threads (so 8 squares in rendering mode...) I have used C4D a lot! but I have the same problem :/

Ya no problem. I can make one with a full version. I made one with a less destructive process without having to make anything editable. I'll include enhanced textures and leaf creation for you!

If you model the strawberry using my technique in R13 and make sure everything is editable and current state to object then save the scene out as either an .OBJ or .FBX it should open fine in R12

below the tool bar you got options: view,camera,display,options,filter and panel ! Go to Display and choose "ground shading lines"

Do you need a strong PC for this? cause I have 8GB of ram GTX 650ti and 3.2gh proc, and Im getting lags while making this strawberry.

I rendered it to jpg but the collision spots with the seeds didnt show up in the final render. How do i fix that?

I'm curious, what kind of C4D you were using. Was it C4D Studio? C4D Prime? Are they all capable of accomplishing something like this?

The mechanics of it are good and easy to follow but all the yawning is awful. It would have been better for you to just upload without sound. I'd be so embarrassed to post a tutorial like this.

the HDRI pack comes with cinema 4d. It can be found in the content browser window. Under Prime > Materials > HDRI

It's not in the mograph tab. In the create drop down go to deformer and I believe it's there.

Oh man nice catch! The hair was added later. Its fairly simple tho. In the render settings under the hair tab you will need to change raster hair to raytrace hair. That way the GI will react correctly with the hair. I also made the hair tan / white with some curl to it. If you have any questions I will be happy to help further.

There are technically no lights in the scene. I'm using I.B.L. (Image based lighting) with an HDRI 360 sphere image that used to light the strawberry. The texture can be found in the content browser. :)

Michael Forrest, thanks for this awesome tut, very informative, Said that, I`m having trouble with my final render (render to picture) `cause in render preview it looks perfect like yours, but in final render picture (jpg) the collision produced by the seeds look somehow smaller and darker, producing an strange and very different effect from the preview,
