Man, it was so good to see Reese De’What again! It was like meeting an old friend from college. Man, both Kenan and Kate were absolutely hilarious in this sketch! This may be the best early Christmas gift ever! 😂😂
people singing AT me makes me super uncomfortable, I absolutely can't stand musicals. IMO there's way too much of that vibe on SNL for the last few years and would love to see them incorporate a little more absurdist/surreal comedy instead of the tik tok / disney approach.
Kristen Wiig did too back when she was a cast member (and also played Judy Garland as a pill-popping trainwreck, as seen on the Vincent Price holiday special sketches, which most people playing Judy Garland have never done. It's always "Wizard of Oz" Judy and maybe some singing roles after that). But hey, Chloe Troast's impression does get points for being scarily on-point.
I love how, after the Timothy Chalamet episode, Chloe Troast’s vocals get a chance to shine every episode or so. She’s a talent and I’m glad she got on SNL
Every time she sings she rattles the rafters and wows the crowd. She makes me gasp with awe. That is a remarkable instrument she has, and they need to let her turn it loose. Maybe have her star in the next Mulaney-style musical sketch.
Bless Kate McKinnon I haven't laughed so hard at a skit in a long time. She deserves more than she gets! Her facial expressions kill me, lol. My favorite one of the night!
I feel like Chloe really looks like she could have been in a movie in the 40s or 50s. She just has the kind of face that was popular back then for actresses. I also love when they do the transatlantic accent. Its so funny how people talked like that back then.
I've never seen MMISL, but Kate McKinnnon's facial expressions are so good, I could tell by the first couple of twitches that she was impersonating Margaret O'Brien!
Shout out to the production team! The dress, the placement/design of the snow men, the behind-the scenes story - perfection compared to what is in the film! 👏 Just in case you're wondering what the true story was... Director Vincent Minnelli claimed that he told little Margaret O'Brien (Tootie) that her dog was going to be killed. O'Brien, years later, said that he made up the story - what would really make her cry is when her mother would say if she couldn't cry, they would have to use the false tears instead (which O'Brien hated since it was unpleasant). If you haven't seen "Meet Me in St. Louis," it is a real treat. Garland and O'Brien are wonderful in it!
I also heard a version of the story where Margaret O'Brien supposedly said they threatened to replace her with another child actress if she couldn't cry, and that her sense of competition pushed her to cry real tears.
@@jaimelubin That's actually pulled from Margaret's recollection. It wasn't that she cried because of the competition; she was just mentioning that she & another actress were very well known as the criers on the lot (when it came to their onscreen performances). The fake tears that they would have to drop in her eye - those were what she was most upset about.
I just went & rewatched the original scene … OH MY GOD… 1) they really traumatized that little girl & 2) lord help me, watching it again made this skit even funnier … hahahaha
@@hadawson72268 Really seems like child abuse, like the opposite of method acting. That is some monstruos directing. And even worse parenting, what the hell... These sketches aren't really a documentary so I thought it was just a goof.
When Judy Garland sings that song I turn into a puddle. I also turn into a puddle during her performance of Dorothy's last monologue in The Wizard of Oz. Too sentimental I guess.
I get the joke, but child actors and actresses really were treated terribly on movie sets. Judy Garland was allegedly forced to smoke cigarettes on the set of The Wizard of Oz to keep her weight down. I just want to say that I feel disgusting just typing the phrase "to keep her weight down."
Man, that sounded cruel. This makes me feel glad now we’re in a society that is starting to focus more on reforming and cracking down on child labor laws to prevent others from going through the same experiences Judy Garland faced.
The director even slapped her when she couldn’t stop giggling and he asked the whole cast to slap him as payback and she was even sexually assaulted by the munchkin actors
She is so annoying. Can’t stand her. Especially after the epitome of an annoying character she played last week. With the college president skit. That was complete and total bullshit by snl.
The original lyrics for Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas were actually really depressing, so Judy Garland refused to sing them and said they'd make the little girl cry for real.
"White Christmas" wasn't in that movie. It was "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas"... But, Tootie did go out and destroy the snowmen in the movie after the song...
Fun fact: the original version started with "Have yourself a merry little Christmas. It will be your last" (last Christmas in St. Louis). It was too sad so they changed it.
Just found out Chloe was not renewed for Season 50. That's too bad as she was excellent here and the "Little Orphan Cassidy" sketch. Wishing her the best.
They should have used the correct song Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas ; there is no copyright issue as Billie just sang it earlier. The rest of the skit was pretty funny
They did their homework, for the most part, regarding the details - it's amazing how accurately they recreated the snowmen! Except why is "Judy" singing "White Christmas," when, in the real movie, she sings "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas...?"
Great Gibson Girl hair on Ms Troast, and wonderful voice as always. They got the song wrong of course...should have been the last line of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" but that would have stepped on Billie Eilish's performance later I suppose.
Still am waiting for the day when we actually see Reese's wife and she's either played by current cast member Ego Nwodim or Leslie Jones in a surprise cameo.
Per usual Keenan saved this stinker. Barely cracked a smile at any of this weeks skits. Hopefully weekend update for the save. Find out tomorrow when they upload the full segment.
