I admire stories which portray the redeeming transformation of one of the main characters. The spoiled brat undergoes a marvelous change. It's a lovely film and a classy adaptation of the Kipling story. The acting is superb. A fine video!

My dad had a Revell plastic model of the "Blue Nose" when I was a child. He loved sailing ships, and especially schooners, but I don't know if he ever had the opportunity to set foot on one. Sadly, I only vaguely remember him telling me about this movie, which he loved. That it is a hard one to watch, sure. But in my teens, I was misinformed about it through what I read. According to the brilliant minds of the time, it was just The Protestant Work Ethic meets the Old Boys Network, and a kid gets hit hard by an adult, and you're supposed to approve! (Didn't they realize "kids learn what they live"?) I finally saw it around 1978 or 79, and realized how much I had missed. I bought the dvd a couple of years ago, but had only watched it about 3 times, because it really can be difficult to watch. This year, I've watched it about 24 times on my phone since mid-January! Its $4 here, but free on the Tubi app. Sometimes, I start watching because i just want to hear the music or watch the opening credits, or a particular scene, and I just stay for the rest of it.

Wow, thanks for your wonderful comment. I watched this film back in the sixties on a black and white T.V.. Fishing season is upon us in Ontario, thought a fishing tale was appropriate. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks again!
