The Findings: There is no major difference between the two when it comes to the total Amps you will derive from each pack before it goes flat. You will discharge 85% of the battery power between 4.20v and 3.0v. The Lipo hangs longer at higher voltage between 3.9v and 3.55v. The Li-ion hangs longer - a bit lower - between 3.6v and 3.3v. Yes you can drain the Li-ion to a much lower voltage of 2.60v to glide back home. Here it must be said, gliding home is all you will do at such low voltage for a mile or so but not for much longer. If you can handle the weight that comes with a Lipo for every added Milliamp, then you'll enjoy a punchy flight that a Lipo provides. On average, Li-ions are much more lighter than Lipos so if you can navigate the lower average flight voltage that a Li-ion provides, you could then add more cells to the Li-ion and build a much bigger battery - capacity wise (MAH) and still not surpass the Lipo on weight.

It depends on the application. If you want to fly down a mountain, you don't need the power at the bottom and a Li-Ion battery works great. If you want to cover distance, then the power of the LiPo battery will probably suit you better. Or how do you see it? Best regards 😊

@@BigKahunaFPV Hi BigKahuna, Agreed. For me the surprise take away from this test was the fact that recovering from dives does not require as much power as I thought it did. after studying my telemetry I realized I drew a max of about 31 amps punching out of tight situations - way below even the 35C which the li-ion recommends as constand (gets even better with 45C of the Molicel p45b) and 31 amps is much lower than the 100C of my lipo. I think from now on, I will also consider the li-ion for more punchy flights - especially with a Molicel pack.

@@Phoenix.- without a doubt for 20 + min cinematic long range flights li-ion is the way to go. Li-ion has higher energy density overall, lighter, cheaper since u can easily make them yourself. my current record is 45 min with 6s2p 10000mah on a 7" @ 70km/h cruising speed. fitting that size lipo on there would be alot heavier and idk 5x more expensive.

A familiar view! Your experience in this area shows, great flying. Hopefully I will be in this area again this year. I like this takeoff position, you maintained LoS on various ridges well

Thanks man, it is indeed breath taking just being there. Sadly I only have just one more flight more planned in this area and then I'm done for a while. looking forward to your flights. 🙂

I’ve been flying a DIY pack made out of Molicel p45b cels. 4500mah, 45A continuous discharge. My pack is 6s2p, so 9000mah 90A continuous discharge. Equivalent to a 5000mah-ish lipo. I can say I fly this DIY Liion pack almost as if I was flying a lipo. If you watch my videos you can see I like to fly fast. I like flying close to and above 100kmh constant, drawing anywhere from 25A to 70A depending on wind on 20 minute long flights and the battery barely gets warm. Coming out of dives and some occasional flips and rolls are no problem with 90A’s available. And yeah that’s 9000mah! So plenty of flight time landing at around 3.0v. Just my 2cents from my battery experiments! Awesome video as always. Got me pumped to get out and fly some mountains today! Cheers!

Great content and video. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm personally transitioning from lipos to lions for long range and it was very helpful.

It just came from nowhere!! I feel like it was hidden by those snow line from the mountain across, while I was approaching it at 110kph 😬😄

Hey Phoenix, I was thinking about flying in the Grindelwald area soon. Just wondering if you needed to get any permits and what area were you flying from. Fantastic video also!
@Phoenix.-

Grindelwald is a lovely place to fly and is mostly unrestricted, just remember to bring a sub 250g drone for the flight over the village (I had the Flywoo LR 4 for that). Always negotiate with locals if you have to fly near someone's property: Bernese are very nice people, and are usually reasonable. And check the Swiss drone Maps to see where you can take off from.

If you want longest possible flight time, then LiIon. For more performance like faster flights and pulling out of steep dives, you need a lipo. Besides the higher voltage sag of a LiIon, it's maximum output current is much lower than a lipo. 21700 molicel p45B LiIon is about 50A maximum. Thats a very good Liion. A similar weight 3300mah LiPo will allow you to draw more than 200A if your ESC'S even handle it. So you got like 4X the power if you need it.

Hi Chris More power is good, to much power is even more awesome! :-) 😎 ...that is if your quad is not using an xt60 power connector over a 20 minutes flight drawing 200A?

@@Phoenix.- for my powerful 8 inch 8S builds, I use a 12AWG wire, split the wire strands in half after like 4 cm and solder two 14AWG wires in parallel to them. Then I come out with two tx60 plugs. There I use two batteries in parallel. Saves you more weight than an xt90 and multiple parallel xt60 to xt90 Adapters. My burst current is mostly 175A on 8S.

@@chrisbee5481 That is a very creative construct. I'm also a stickler for saving, I hope you don't mind if I copy your idea - just to try it out. 🙂

Great video! I also have a Chimera 7 Pro V2, but I crashed it in water, my radio connection via crossfire was suddenly lost. Have you ever had this? If anyone wants to see my crash video, its the first and only video on my channel.

I watched your video and it looks like your quad failsafed into a drop. How are your failsafe settings? Do you have GPS rescue properly configured?

Beautiful video!!!! May I ask if this overweight LiPo battery makes flying harder? If I compare a iFlight lion 8000 (about 900 grams) and a CNHL 9500 lipo (about 1140 grams) the difference is really big! What do you prefer to fly with? (Asking because I own a iFlight 8000). Also, is this O3 video recording 4k 60 FPS eis? Thanks!!!
@Phoenix.-
@Phoenix.- 11 дней назад
Hi, thanks. What quad are you flying? If you are flying a 7" the quad should handle the battery weight pretty well, you won`t notice much of a difference. Depending on the nature of the flight, the CHNL 9.5 is pretty good, you can do punchy stuff and you can also do cruising stuff with it. The fullsend 8000 mah is also ok but with 35A CDR it is less punchy compared to the 90A of the CHNL. But also here the difference is not so much. Your flight range will determine your choice in this case: For any flight above 23km I would go for the 9500mah.
@Phoenix.-

The recording was done in 4K/100 with EIS off, but the editing compromises put the FPS down to 4K/50.

@@Phoenix.- Hey thanks for replying! I own the chimera 7 the BNF version and with the iflight 8000 lion I get about 15 minutes, but I drain the battery at about 2.6 to do so. Throttle at 50% max and amps about 25-30 amps. I'll try the lipo too, I'll grab one and test it.
@illuminatorix

@@Phoenix.- if the recording is set to 4k/120 wouldn't be better? Asking, don't really know!
@Phoenix.-
@Phoenix.- 11 дней назад
Judging from your values, you`re pretty punchy with your flights. :-) So I highly recommend the 9.5 CHNL.
