Thanks!👍😊 That will be nice to get back at it and hope you find some goodies! We were out a few times this week at a spot I discovered many years ago but was just a very small spot of old broken glass on a pile of rocks that didn’t seem promising at the time. Just ended up with two slick tooled amethyst meds, two fruit jar lids and an amber stopper and everything else very well broken. Found the shard of the top of a hutch so we definitely did not want to leave any stones unturned, literally! Take care and ATB!
Love the small clear bottle you found in the creek. I have dug a few Fitch bottles up here, but they weren't jars. That clay is hard digging. I'm actually repairing broken top bottles, especially the rare or unique ones. Too bad on the flasks. Enjoyed the dig and best regards !
Thanks Al!👍😊 Still not sure if that’s a perfume or a med. Very surprised it was older and tooled. I guess Fitch made many different products and wonder if the jars had some sort of harder product like hair cream in them. Very tough digging, especially with all the rocks, gravel, boulders and woody debris at the bottom. Very cool doing repairs on the unique ones. On the last dig of last year there, we dug something rare and damaged but was not a bottle. Take care, ATB and happy hunting!
This is very cool and the first time I've seen anything like this. I love to see people out in nature doing great things, and I never knew how much human waste is out there.
Thanks!👍😊 Great idea! Been quite a few olive jars come out of that spot and a couple ones that had ghosting of the label where you could clearly see the name. Didn’t go away after scrubbing so glass must have been slightly etched to preserve it. Since most of the bottles are liquor from the tavern in the hotel, I figure that the olive jars are too from them making martinis. Take care and ATB!
Thanks!👍😊 The embossed are a bit few and far between but they do show up eventually. Since it’s from a hotel, it’s mostly alcohols from pre-prohibition (1916 and earlier). The medicines and others probably came from hotel guests’ trash or stuff they left behind. The village was a summer destination well back into the 1800’s and people stayed for weeks if not the entire summer there. Have run across a few corked with contents that have well been preserved in the wet. Take care and ATB!
This is cool we usto do this on my friends farm when I was a kid we would pull huge glass jugs out of the ground bottles all kinds of things it was extremely fun we felt like we were finding treasure and there parents kept the stuff and used them as decorations around the house
Thanks!👍😊 Very nice and definitely a rite of passage as a kid to find an old dump to dig in. Got to do a bit of that then too and sure keeps you out of trouble! Take care snd ATB!
Thanks Jim!👍😊 In old parts of cities, the ravines and riverbanks are a good place to start if there’s much of that around your area. They can be very difficult to find especially if the vegetation is thick and it probably doesn’t die back in winter there in the same way it does here. You can get lucky sometimes just happening upon it by chance exploring those types of areas. Take care and ATB!
