I wonder where today's ppl of the Caucasus came from. Have they been turkic tribes or adapted the turkic language later like the slavic ppl from the Balkans, when the ottomans expanded?
it depends, there are few autonomous groups : Ingush-Tchetchens-Tush's; Kartveli-Svaneti-Hevsuro-adjarians etc in georgia; Kabard-Abkhas-adyge; some tribes in dagesthan. for this tribes, we have their prints already during the maykop perod (ca. 3700 BC) other's are the migrating tribes that came approximately 1000 years ago with Khasars ( those speak indo european languages or hebrew or persian languages - so the ossets for example) and after with mongolians and after tatars( this tribes speak turkish languages , they are mostly present in Dagesthan and balkaria) . i hope I answered your question :) . Most people in caucasus (the elders) know which tribe=nation appeared under which circumstances and when through legends, but novadays, russian propaganda tries to devide nations in caucasus through falsifications and contradictory informations and so was very successful in this politics.
