I have between a 6-8mm left PCA. They say it’s rare and wanted to do clipping but said it wouldn’t work so they are leaning towards the coiling. They want to do a diagnostic angiogram to see if I’m a candidate for that. If not it will be an open surgery
5 years ago my brother in law survived a 15 mm aneurysm rupture in the Circle of Willis....yes, 15 mm. The doctor came out after trying to see if they could do anything there and asked if we wanted to see the picture. We said yes. The doctor said he had never seen one that large, let alone one that large, rupture, AND the patient is still alive. It changed my BIL, though. He is not the same person he was before the aneurysm. Aneurysms run in my family, but they are AAA....Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm. My Aunt (my father's sister) died of one rupturing exactly one year before her brother (my father) died from his AAA rupturing. He had complained for YEARS to his doctor that his mid back hurt. The doc kept saying he was just getting older, that its arthritis. Well, dad was a smoker AND over 50. THESE ARE THE CRITERIA TO BE CHECKED FOR AAA! ESPECIALLY IN MEN. If my dad had gotten the CT he so desperately needed, he could have been saved years before he died. The doctors at Loma Linda University told us that this has a tendency to run in families, but skip a generation, meaning my sister and I are not at the same risk as MY kids are. Not so sure it's true but that's what we were told. My sister and I are clear. And I will tell my kids to get checked, as well.
Thank you for this. It has been discovered that I have narrowing of the vessels in the Circle of Willis. I have not yet seen the specialist, so am researching to educate and understand better the condition and the function of that area. I understand mine is hereditary and has come on early due to high BP. Is there anything that can be done to stop the progression of damage or prevention of stroke? Stroke is a very high risk in my genetics.
+Bre Klein - hi Bre - if the aneurysm is discovered before it ruptures, it can be successfully treated with surgery. Some aneurysms will leak slowly at first, causing symptoms (usually headache), and can still be treated. Once complete rupture has occurred, however, the ability to treat the problem effectively is much reduced...
Cal Shipley, M.D. yes headaches and pain. I have seen doctors because I also had a meningioma removed and they told me not to worry about the aneurysm, but I can't not worry. I have to be very careful.
