Adam with UConn HKN presents a simple ideal Operational amplifier (OP-amp) example problem. Adam explains the most important principles of the OP-amp and then goes to solve for the output voltage and all other circuit parameters. The methods taught in this video can be used on any op-amp problem.

Howdy All! Some corrections for you! Vo = -3V is correct, however when we calculated i_3, we forgot our negative sign! i_3 = -0.12mA is the correct answer, meaning that our answer for io is: io = i_2-i_3 = 0.075mA - (-0.12mA) = 0.195mA (into the OpAmp) Sorry for the sign error! ~Andrew

There is a mistake at the end of your calculations. You forgot the negative sign on i3 which would have made i2 positive meaning that there was current entering the op amp from the output side. Please add an annotation or add it to the description to clarify.

Io is wrong since Vo =-3v if you KCL on that node it must be 75uA=Io+((-3-0)/25K) = Io-120uA then Io = 195uA

The formula that you used to calculate the output voltage(Vout) which is 0v+3v+Vout=0 is incorrect, the right one is 0v-3v-Vout=0. Try it, you won't get stuck again. Everything else is superb. Thank you.

Just a general question here, what purpose does the 25k Ohm resistor from the amplifier's output to ground serve? I've seen circuits that have similar and the purpose escapes me. Thank you.

That represents the resistance of whatever the circuit is driving. IRL it could be a simple resistance like a light bulb or a complex impedance of a speaker.

How to calculate the currents easily, just apply the the Kirchhoff's rule of knots: i2 + i0 + i3 = 0 // i2 flows into the knot, so it's positive, i0 and i3 flows out of the knot, so they are negative 0.075mA +(-0.12mA)+(-i3)=0 // convert to i3 i3 = 0.075mA-0.12mA *i3 = - 0.045mA*
