Join JP on a tailwheel adventure as gets current again in a Citabria at a scenic farm airport out in the country.
Tailwheel training: www.sportys.co...
Learning to fly a tailwheel airplane is challenging, but incredibly rewarding. While they are less stable than tricycle gear airplanes, they are a lot of fun and open up a whole new world of flying. As this video shows, you can land on grass runways in the middle of farms and connect with flying the way it used to be.

Took my training in a Citabria, best accomplishment of my life! Just loved coming in high in a slip and easing in the rudder just in time to transition to the grass runway! Now that’s what taildraggers are all about!😁👍

I love the Citabria. Glad people are discovering it still.

Learned to fly in a Citabria. Great plane, very simple but really teaches basic airmanship. Sadly there are very few flight schools doing primary training in tailwheel anymore.

Be sure to purchase about $50-75k in renters insurance (approx. $700-1000/yr. for a zero time student, less the following years). Because they are relatively more prone to propeller strikes than a tri-gear. {Though quite rare, a prop strike requires of course a new propeller, plus a complete engine overhaul which is probably a combined $40k as a penalty for using the brakes to hard, or failing to "dive away from" a strong tail wind while taxiing}.

My local flight school has one of these. I had no idea about this plane until i looked it up and found this video. What a nice little plane. Love the amazing visibility. All those windows.

Very sweet! My dad had a beautiful Citabria back in the 1970's. My brother, sister, and I were the most popular kids in school because if you played your cards right my dad would take you up and perform some stunts.

Flew one in the early 80s for a time. Someone ended up ground looping it and it was down for a long time. Then flew a Decathalon for 15 hours of Aerobatic training. LOVED both planes. Mostly boring Boeings since then. Hahahahaha. I'd love to get back in a tailwheel plane.

i fly a citabria at freedom aviation in the UK (Cotswolds) they have two of them, and they are both gorgeous to fly. the minute i took of i knew this was my kind of aircraft, simple, but great fun. Fly it well, and you get rewarded tenfold.

I own a 2009 Aurora used for pipeline patrol, 4000hrs in this airplane and 8000hrs on type. The citabria is a great little airplane🤓

Taildragger pilots should consider grass strips like Katama Airpark on Martha’s Vineyard off Cape Cod.

I might be getting a chance to fly a Citabria. Looks like a perfect way to get taildragger experience. What a contrast though from the Citabria to a PC12.

Pitch trim on a Citabria does not "directly move the stabilizer" (that would be a Piper Cub) it moves a servo tab on the left elevator.

It’s an Adventure (7GCAA) with a 160-horsepower engine. Fixed pitch prop and no flaps.

Its amazing how an instructor teaching a checkout doesnt understand how the trim system works. He says "it directly moves the horizontal stabilizer" which IT DOES NOT! The horizontal stabilizer is solid. The trim moves the trim tab on the left side elevator. Maybe this instructor should get a proper checkout before trying to check people out in an aircraft he doesnt understand completely.

Your video, was called tailwheel flying. More tailfeathers, and less cockpit please? I expect better, from Sporty's!

No offense but oh brother... Grass field? And this is rather rudimentary. O k, everybody has to start somewhere.

You know what is better than that ugly taildragger on a grass strip is a beautiful nosewheel Cessna 172 on a grass strip doing utility category aerobatics!
