Citizen Fang | Supernatural S08E09 (first time watching/reaction & review) 

Poor Benny. Was a good person, became a good vamp and still has to suffer in both lifetimes. The fact that he's still such a good and sweet dude is crazy to me.

I love the brotherly bond Bennie and Dean have.

So Sam might be insulted by what Dean said about Benny being a person he trusts fully more than anyone else, but Sam has to admit that's he's lied to Dean before and Dean has lied to him. They have a very complicated relationship, but what ties them together is their brothers but neither has been open and honest with each other all the time.

So the writers are trying to set up a conflict and debate of whose side to be on. Benny vs Ameila. The writers think its a though call that both sides have an even pros and cons, but they don't its all one sided, even if you hate Dean and are a diehard Sam or Ameila fan the winner is clearly Benny. Aside from proving himself loyal beyond a doubt, he can still be useful on hunts and from a writer's perspective he still has many arcs with him as a recurring character and opens new story possibilities were not all the monsters are bad guys. Plus, Dean never said he wanted to leave Sam for Benny, he just wanted to keep in contact with him and at no point this season was that shown to hinder Dean or that his friendship with Benny got in the way of a hunt. For Amilea there is no writing potential for her, even if you love her character and were a fam of their relationship it doesn't change the fact that she isn't a hunter and doesn't know anything about the supernatural and there's been no sign that she would make a good hunter or asset to the brothers during a hunt, if Sam picks her he'd be written off the show or the series would be canceled, so there's no reason to hope or desire for Sam to get with Amelia. And while technically Sam holding on to hope for Amelia hasn't hindered him or got in the way of a hunt it's still unhealthy to be pinning after you ex for so long. I honestly don't know what the writers were thinking, if they wanted this relationship to have a chance or get people behind it why didn't they make Amiela the one who served in the army instead of her husband, that way there would at least be chance of her becoming a hunter, or how about something supernatural happened in her past and when Sam solves and fixes it that is what caused their break up instead of this Soap opera excuse of her died husband turning out no to be dead

Look, there is just something very appealing about a soft-spoken burly man, especially about a hungry vampire.

"You let vampires go around unmolested before." Erik really means: "Stop molesting my Benny."

I've got to say, Sam's a bit of a hypocrite in this episode. Season 2, Lenore and her crew, Sam convinced Dean to let them go, no checking up on them. Amy, just killed 3 or 4 people, Sam is good to let her go. Earlier this season, a brand new werewolf, Sam is good with letting her go, no supervision. Dean becomes friends with a vampire, spends a year with him, is okay with letting him free in the wild, Sam - Can't trust him, let's send a hunter who's just been released from a mental institute after him. I get that Sam's still feeling guilty for not searching for Dean, and he feels that Benny has replaced him a bit, and that he's still bitter about Dean killing Amy, but he's being a hypocrite. That being said, Dean sending that message from Amelia, DICK MOVE.

So in this episode alone, Sam went behind Deans back with giving Martin that job, he is being a hypocrite with Benny, he takes his jealousy on Benny and Deans relationship out on Benny, he handcuffs Dean while believing a dangerous vampire is roaming the city, he trusts Martin over Dean while being angry about Dean havung trustissues (or only talking about trusting Benny, nowhere did Dean say he did not trust Sam), leaving Martin in a potentially dangerous situation where he could have been killed( and was killed, that is on Sam), not listening to the whole story of what happened. But Dean is the one in the wrong here? Dean prevented an innocent man from being killed, but he is th asshole? Sure, his method was screwedup but we have all thswers, so we know it was the right decision. Sam was always angry that Dean had a very black and white viewpoint, is this not a good development? Apparently not when it means he has a close friend that is not Sam humslef. This was really the episode were my liking for Sam took a deep dive, sadly.

Sam abandoning Martin could of caused his ☠ death. And it did cause Martin having a psychotic break resulting in Martin taking Elizabeth hostage. Elizabeth and Benny wouldn't have been in danger if Sam hadn't abandoned Martin on the job.

I’m not sure Benny was the one who killed Martin. I don’t know why but for some reason it kind of think it was Elizabeth.

Sam and Dean have such a complicated relationship that honestly anyone outside of the two of them doesn't matter. The brothers will always choose each other, and if that means sacrificing anyone who threatens their brotherly bond, they will do so, either abandoning or even killing them. This out-of-the-box relationship is what has kept fans watching for all fifteen years, me included. :)

Once again, Benny was forced into a situation he wanted nothing to do with, and ended up having to leave his only family behind in order to keep her safe, and Sam hating him even more. I HATE that! Benny broke my heart the entire time.

Sure, a lot of their friends just die young, but I'm pretty sure that there was other names still on the contacts list that Sam could send to check on things instead of a deranged man

The law calls Martin's story circumstantial evidence from a obviously biased witness. Samyou went on trust with Lenore so why do you have a such a hard time with Benny. Sam's a hypocrite.

I felt so bad for Benny. Yes that was a dick move by Dean. Also want to point out that Don did not abandon Amelia, he was a prisoner of war, so can't really blame him.

FYI Don never abandoned Amelia she abandoned him.

Don never abandoned her, he was in the war and was presumed dead.

There is no explanation for Dean and for Benny to kill Martin. There is no talk that Martin provoke him or anything. Bringing back Amy was not right too, from those too I would always choose Amy, everybody forgots who Benny was before purgatory? Dean is really annoying at this area of the show.
