I’ve since fitted X8R replacement foam seals to the rear light units and removed the silicone from them. I’d definitely recommend them over the silicone method shown here as although the silicone stops the leaks, the new seals make it much easier when it comes to removing the lights units replace bulbs etc. This other video shows fitting the new seals: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FDDX__efv8I.htmlsi=Agv0NnGmYkVtX7GY
I gave this video a like purely for the fact you did this, one handed, with the wrong screwdriver (for the most part) in the rain. I'd have given up as soon as I opened the boot fella.
Whether these hacks fit my leaking boot or not, my time has not been wasted - you're a born comic, mate. My toolkit's about as specialised as yours, so I know I'm all good to go for the job. Thanks for the laughs, keep the vids coming.
Good luck. This one was too polluted to support fish or frogs,.. or any kind of life in fact. It’s the mrs’s car, and fuck knows what she puts in the car but it’s amazing. If I’m drinking a can of coke in the house and it’s half finished I’m getting told off cos I’ve not put it in the bin, but her car is a fucking bin!
18mins and 24 seconds in. Looking at the top right of screen image, look down to the first rusty screw hole, below that you can see a foam insert that is almost rectangle but the inner edge is angled. That is a further leak point that gets overlooked. Its foam, soaks full of water and then drips inside. I sprayed mine up on both sides with a tent water proofing spray as I had done all the other common areas and still had a leak. In addition, directly below the rear boot lid release button in the bumper is a tiny water drain hole, This allows water to drip into the inside of the bumper. I got a bit of plumbers putty and blocked it up, now the water just runs down over the outside of the boot, not into the inner side of the boot. Hope these two additional tips help.
wanted to say thank you, i’ve been having issues with my aygo and your videos have covered every issue. you make it super simple to follow along. keep doing what you’re doing.
@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos Hi, my boot doesn't show any wet in the boot at all and so presume my top and side light fix was ok but its condensation in the right wet conditions is just as bad. Im trying to believe your description of the vent flaps are some how leaking past the boot and making its way into the back foot well but the carpets are dry. The trouble is, the carpet is all one piece so if the water is getting underneath? but i cant feel any damp because it feels like there is a plastic membrane stopping it reaching the actual carpet if that makes any sense! I suppose ill just have to try forcing one side foot well carpet up a bit and see if there is any water there and if there is then either the rear door seals or the rear flaps maybe to blame or maybe using a cheap damp meter on the carpets before i start using brute force!? as its only done 25,000 miles .....
The most comprehensive video I've seen on this subject. Those boot vents look like a right PITA. Have to have a look at mine. Why do these leaks always happen in the middle of winter when it's pissing down? Loved the brake holding device😂. The wife won't have to take her slippers off and put her shoes on anymore to press the peddle for me. Should save her pulling a gob.
No nonsense good advice and decent one-handed camera work. I couldn't get rid of the condensation in my Aygo this winter and just found a couple of litres of water in the spare wheel well. The boot was dry except for the in the very corner and the water was flowing hidden under my boot liner. I've dried it all out and encased my 3rd brake light in petroleum jelly, just waiting for it to rain to see if that cures it before I take it off and apply sealant.
We just bought our daughter a 107 and spent £90 on the X8R complete 5door seal kit which also has the all 3 break light covered best investment mate. Didn't know about the other hidden seals so cheers for taking the time to point them out in a honest way, how much was your 10 peice tool kit 😂
The X8R kits are definitely good, but never seen them with new seals for them pesky bumper vents which are really common for pissing into the rear footwells in my experience!
Good luck with it. This other video is also definitely worth a watch too. The seals I fit on the rear lights are probably better then using sealant as it makes it easier to remove the light units when required in the future ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FDDX__efv8I.htmlsi=nrgQ5uxDEMboBIFE
brilliant video ,,when i bought my little aygo it was leaking all the places you have done ,,even contacted the previous owner to ask if he wanted the gold fish back that were in the boot ,,😉😉 one place you never mentioned and the c1 might be different the rubber stops for the boot lid that hold the bumper on leaked too ,,keep the vids coming mate love them ,,
so this is why i found mold on the bench of my 107 after leaving it sat for a few months. i read baking powder can clean it up, as well as a new air filter and your fix from the video. the back seat is full of mold spots, i hope the process doesnt kill me. go go gadget immune system!
More than likely yea. I’ve always just used mould remover from Asda, not sure about baking powder but it’s used for all sorts of shit so probably works. If it doesn’t work and the mould is too bad, then petrol and a match will dry it out and get rid of the mould all in one step.
Your videos are top notch as always! You wouldn’t be able to the reverse switch, man I’m struggling with it I don’t want to drop the gearbox but seems like I’ll have to
I think it’s under the gearbox engine mount but I can’t remember tbh. You shouldn’t have to drop the box though, at worse support it underneath and remove the left hand engine mount and you should be able to get to it then iirc
Exactly what I spent the morning doing. After all the rain lately noticed windows steaming up and then noticed the foot spa in the rear foot well. Brake light gasket knackered, vents seals knackered and broke the top light clip so that’s that fecked. Anyway silicon to the rescue. All is well unless I need to change a bulb then I will just trade the shitter in lol.
Nice video as always. Happy 2023 old chap, and looking forward to the 5K subs party. Do we need to book a hotel or is that going to be paid for by you like the venue, food, drink and hookers?
At my car the rubbers of the vents were broken, so i completely removed the rubbers and seal them back. I used Bison Polymax and i sealed the 3th breaklight and the foaming parts of the backlights as well. Now it's complete dry in the booth :)
Great video very informative 🤔 My c1 is a year Newer than your black one . It’s been in the family from new and ive never had my back lights off . So I’m guessing any day now my car is going to spring a leak lol Mind you my Jaguar X type does have water in the boot . I bought a brand-new boot vent for it . And it still leaks I didn’t realise I had to put some sort of sealant on it lol Thanks very much because I was scratching my head 😱😱 Happy new year to ya 🎉👍
Instant thumbs up for Ievan Polkka. :) My '13 Aygo also has this issue. It appeared within a few weeks of my purchase and I ended up taking it back on warranty several times. They had a hard time locating the actual source as it appeared to require the car to sit at just the right angle with the rain coming from the right direction. They stripped the poor thing down to the bare chassis, refitted all gaskets and schmooed everything in the end. And at the time, they did appear to have solved it. Of course, the issue reappeared after a while, but by that time, I just couldn't be arsed to take it back in again. It's not as severe now as it was in the beginning, but water does accumulate over time. I guess I'll have to do some reschmooing. :)
That will probably be the vents, I forgot to say in the vid but they tend to piss in worse when parked on an angle like one side on the kerb, which makes sense if you look where they are. If they just refitted the gaskets then chances are they’ve coke back out as they fall to bits and rot over time.
Yay, found a great informative you-of-the-tubah. Funnily educational. Will be checking out your other ones, mate. learned a lot while supping a beer and pssing meself. great vid, cheers.
Thanks mate, I think it's coming into mine from the offside light. Bollocks I'll just do the lot but when stops bloody raining in Yorkshire. Sometime in f in August by which time the the boot will be so corroded me spare wheel will of f...... off out the bottom.
@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos it's done. All dried out now. I got the car off my mum. She doesn't want to drive anymore. I noticed the boot full of water when checked the spare wheel. Just done all the brakes and put new tyres on as they had aged. It's been sat in the drive mostly. Will sort it shortly.
Good luck! I’m thinking of getting X8R seals for the rear lamp units next as although the silicone stops the leaks, once the lights are disturbed to change a bulb or even possibly badly knocked against, it can need resealing again. I do in fact have many premium flat blade screw drivers, but I prefer to struggle with the incorrect tool as opposed to going rooting in my toolbox for them 🤣
Another great video. Question for you, I need to replace the plastic things that the rear lights screw onto. Are these easy to replace? Pull old one out and put a new one in?
If they are chewed up and the threads are stripped then you can replace them, or you can put a fatter screw in, or stick a match stick in the hole before putting the screw in etc
You must have been very bad in a previous life as yet again it’s raining. Tim braves the delights of the northern UK weather to save some more sh1tters from getting an internal soaking - Yes!
@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos Both mate if i'm honest they're always full of the previous owners crap as they come from auctions so might get a free cd if im lucky, in the boot one thing i always manage to see is the rusted jack n spare, wouldn't use that if my life depended on it lol
So glad you solved the mystery of the curse of the black fingernail.........oh and plugged the shitter too 👍👍 i did exactly the same as you did but with sikaflex.......no leaks but am gonna be fucked if i need to change a bulb 🤣🤣 another informative, technological, automotive influenced piece of visionary vision Sir Tim 👍 watch out for a van tour of my shitter conversion 👍
@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos i know! Van still at the garage.....he is checking the EGR valve next and MOT 👍 with it being new year, am not exoecting it back for another week or so 😭 happy new year to you Sir Tim 🎩
What is the name of the sealant that you used for the lights please? Great video BTW! I discovered a pool of water in the spare wheel area so it’s given me some options to investigate 👍
Mine 107 is still dry in the boot, but Im checking from time to time. I was thinking of using black silicone for roofs, but they I probably would not be able to remove top light any more.
Now I know why my wife's car has a lot of condensation in the inside. My 107 on the other hand is dry as it can be. Will look into her car to see if something is leaking....
When I resealed my back lights I used some thick foam draught excluder to make a new gasket. For the high-level brake light I did the same way but I think I also installed a new gasket in addition to using sealant. Seemed to do the trick as it's been fine for a few years now and before that it was pretty much a swimming pool in the boot and the other strange thing was I used to get a puddle of water in the ceiling liner around the interior light ... didn't seem to be the aerial fixing leaking so I think somehow the water was getting from the high level brake light along the ceiling liner ... is that even possible? Anyway that hasn't happened again since I resealed all the back lights.
How do you think I fucking feel? I clean it out, it’s the same within a couple of days. Yet I leave a drink by the settee that I’m half way through drinking it, and I get accused of making a mess!
i've seen this video 2 times and i'm here 3rd time to say this is a shit car, first power steering issue, then water issue, the another water issue, then third water issue
Sounds like you’ve had bad luck. Apart from the leaking which is particularly common, they’re usually one of the most reliable and easiest/cheapest to service and repair cars on the road! The power steering ecu is a known issue too but not massively common, usually it’s the power steering ecu thar fails but can be got pretty cheap second hand
@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos yeah but after the 3rd leak and some mold and also high pitched squeaking when i turn the AC on (could be AC belt or Alternator belt struggling) i really lost the enthusiasm to fix the damn car, at least it passed the registration with no problems so there's that, other than that the car does drive nicely but the gear changing you really have to get used to, cause you aint going from 3rd to 2nd wihtout puting it in neutral, tapping the gas and then putting it in 2nd or you have to super slow down ...
Is still getting water in,just doing tomorrow the vents seals...problem is that I can't find just the seals for the vents to buy...I have done the brake lights...and in top two weeks the new engine will go in😂 the perfect car ever💰
