This car came to me with an issue with the charging system.
The battery light was on, and the alternator seemed to not be charging the battery...
Other weird behaviours and faults, but all to do with the battery...
Follow me on this video to find out what was the problem and how to resolve it.

That single cable coming out of the alternator with Pulse Signal is called FM or Field Monitor. The ECU used that signal to measure the load on the alternator in idle to keep the rpm at 750. If there is a big load of electricity it will automatically accelerate the engine to 750 rpm to avoid vibrations.

​@@arekxthe second wire on peugeot/CITROËN with modern BCM is not used. You can even disconnect it and nothing will happen. This wire was used on old dashboards with the battery light, to let you know that there is a fault in the charging system.

@@arm2644 Interesting. Because I was reading that newer units use LIN digital protocol and not PWM.

Interesting and well explained, in my uncle's peugeot partner the alternator signal goes to the bsm then it communicates with the bsi

Good to learn something new about evolution of charging systems, years ago you can recognize a bad alternator if the battery light its on or not, but nowadays its a little bit complicate. Best to spend some time checking the system than be the typical quick parts changer

@@LMAutoRepairs i have a small problem with my c4 Picasso. Sometimes the battery light comes on. But my main problem is with the ESP and parking brake. It says that they're faulty. And the f19 fuse in the engine compartment fuse box always blows. I've ordered a new alternator and I'm waiting for it, and i might have to change the battery as well, because its a 45 amp, but I'm not sure it will solve my problems. Do you have any electrical diagram of that fuse box? I need to know what goes through that fuse exactly. I hope it's just a sensor or something that can be easily replaceable and not a wire.

@@LMAutoRepairs it's a Citroen C4 Picasso 1.6vti. I'm talking about the fusebox next to the battery. As you look at the fusebox while it's on the car, it's the 3rd fuse counting from top left. First one is a bigger type 30 amp fuse, then a small type 10 amp, and the next one is the problematic blue 15 amp fuse. In the manual it says that the fuse is for the engine components. But I've tested it with lexia and the engine is almost the only one with no fault codes. And for the ESP it says that there's no communication with the engine ECU. I will do what you have done and test the alternator, because I've owned other psa cars in the past, an i know that when the alternator doesn't supply enough, all the systems go crazy. But i cant explain the fuse goin out every time i put a new one and turn the ignition on.

My wife bought a Peugeot 207! Very expensive to service and very hard to self serve due to tight areas.The alternator didn’t charge the battery.However trying to remove the alternator is hell of a job,no wonder why service is expensive.This will be the last time we buy any Peugeot car and Advise anyone not to buy Peugeot!

What great video. We’ve been having this with our Picasso. Battery was changed when we brought it. But last night the the warning lights come on like Christmas tree and this morning car broken down. I’ve sent this video to my partner. But was this costly job to do?

I feel old with this technology First thing I would have done is lift the bonnet and have a look at the engine drive belt wiring and battery terminals And maybe drop test the battery Even before I think about plugging in a diagnostics tool Peugeot planet my only software of choice on these French jalopies Its a 3/8 square drive ratchet I use a home made woodruff key bar bent 90 degrees to remove tension And safety pin fitted 5mm rather relying on the rachet head or an tool wedged in chassis Please work safe especially when making videos like these

Hi bro. I have problem with 308 start stop. I have same error "Battery charge or.." But my alternator is on 14.1 and for two days drop on 12.6. When i disconnect + from accumulator and back, alternator is on 14.1 again. Can you help me. and if acumulator has changed do i need programing parameters.

Difficult to help with only that description of the problem... What are the codes stored? What are the symptoms of the car? What parts have been replaced? What else has been checked, like wiring etc...? 👍👍

I have a 2009 C4 1.6 HDI my issue is Power steering on startup doesn't kick in until 5MPH so parking is dangerous unless you leave it on full lock beforehand Anybody had this issue or know a fix? Plenty of fluid and power steering works perfect once it kicks in at 5mph 🤷🏻‍♂️ There is a 60AH battery fitted by previous owner

@@mrylcn3.0 I ended up selling the car man it was impossible to fix I left it with 3 mechanics and nobody could manage to fix it . It was such a dangerous problem because the steering wasn’t just heavy before it kicked in it was near impossible to steer shame because I really liked the car lol

It is not as easy as it looks. Followed your steps. To correct your information, there are 4 screws. The two at the bottom is hidden, so you have to lift the car to reach them. Do not try to do it your self. You will get stuck somewhere, and you will have to call a mechanic to come to your place and charge you more.

I have a c4 2 2011 the alternator is charging 13v but no problems starting etc etc no battery light is this normal ?? But sometimes i see 13.8 and 14.20 but ita like Spikes of 2 3 seconds and down to 12.80v

@@LMAutoRepairs tested it 10min not even underload it goes above.. at idle only 12.80v or 13.10v sometimes i rev it up increases ..others decrease .. never experienced nothing like this... its really faulty alternator.. thanks

Most garages should be able to diagnose a faulty alternator without having to resort to in-depth electronic diagnosis. Alternator should be producing around 14 volts (needs to be > 12 volts to charge the battery). If no 14v then investigate if the field coil in the alternator is being switched on (this is how the charging is regulated; if the battery is charged turn off the field coil to prevent cooking the battery). In the case of this car it uses pwm for the regulation, although it could just be on and off. Most likely the brushes worn in the alternator; it's the most common problem easily fixed with a new set of brushes.
