Great review of the big Citroen with the small engine. In Germany I did find only one. The guy complained that the 1.2 engine is not moving the car at all. He said he needs ear protection because it is so noisy and the automatic gearbox changing gears whenever it wants but not when it's needed. And if you travel 1000 km you will need road assistance twice at least. That is how paid experts are bashing all non german car brands. Thank you for your realistic and personal insights!
Very good review and realistic. Citroen have dropped the 1.6 petrol engine with 180 bhp anyway. I have a 1.2 Sense Plus in which I have driven over 8,000 miles. On a run it averages a genuine 45 mpg or more, and around town 33 to 35 mpg. The engine has plenty of get up and go, and is silent when cruising. Stellantis are using the same floor pan and engine in the Peugeot 408, and soon with the Vauxhall Insignia. All basically the same car, but badge engineered British Leyland fashion. It is surprising the C5x did not achieve a full 5 star NCAP rating. The big disappointment with this car is the ride quality of cars that do not have the active suspension. Only the hybrid models have adaptive suspension. That aside, the car is fantastic value for money and a great space to spend time in. Cost of ownership is low too. It has all the power you need to drive on our congested, and speed monitored motorways. The car also encourages a more relaxed style of driving too. The C5x is made in Wuhan, China.
@@MRT.1977 thank you, unfortunately I didn’t go back and complain as it’s never really bothered me but thought it was worth mentioning in the review for others. All the best. Jim.
Really good review thanks! Was wondering about the performance of the 1.2 and loved your demo driving up the hill, something I really missed in all other reviews about the c5x. Thanks for making this video, really makes a difference you actually own the car and know your stuff.
Ahh thank you so much!.. I have another video coming soon demonstrating drive assist so I hope you’ll be able to watch it when it’s out, all the very best, Jim.
Just about the best review on the C5X. No other video pointed out the 'loose' window, the panel pulling, the or pointing out the positioning of the rear view mirror. I had a C5 bought it brand new, and had it 9 years. I considered it the best car I ever had. I only got rid of it for the diesel scare. I just wished I kept it now. I'm seriously thinking about the C5X in the future.
Great honest review. I've had my 1.2 Shine Plus since late June (one of the last cars in the UK with that nomenclature before they moved to You, Plus and Max). My experience with it so far is 100% consistent with this review right down to the steep hill behaviour, annoying positioning of the rear view mirror (as I also like to sit high) etc. But mine cost me just 28k and I'd challenge anyone to source a large versatile car for that money, especially with so many bells and whistles, many of which are usually only associated with cars costing north of 40k. The engine is plenty powerful enough as long as you're a considerate driver as opposed to a "the road belongs to me so get out my way" type. The 40-odd mpg is the icing on the cake. I agree, it's built to a budget, but the pros so far outweigh the cons. Right, I'm off outside now to check this ambient lighting thing you mentioned as I hadn't realised it even possibly had that .
@@gilbertlufc thank you so much, I’m still loving our one despite my few niggles when we first got it, it’s still so comfortable and quiet and is awesome on a long journey, glad you’re enjoying yours!, all the very best, Jim.
Hi Jim, In Australia we only get one option, we get the Shine with a 1.6 engine. I looked at the specs for this car but it did not mention coloured lights accross the dash. In Australia Citroen don't think we need a centre arm rest with cup holders in the back seat. I find that very odd. Thank you for showing us your car, I really enjoyed your review.
Thank you so much sir! That’s very much appreciated.. really odd about the cup holders in the back? Surely it’s more hassle manufacturing one without cup holders!
The "I don't likes" , I have seen a lot of reviews, no one have mentioned these issues . Thank you for mentioning these quirks!! It stays a French design made in China.
Hi Murray, the car has a connected app, from there you can do many things and of course see your average fuel consumption, I just checked mine and is currently returning around 34MPG. Most of my journeys lately have all been around town and I can’t wait to see what it will return on the motorway!.. I’ll keep you posted sir, all the best, Jim.
@@richardburfoot8638 I’ll certainly do another video to update on fuel economy, I’m off to Scotland in September so will be a great test on the motorway. So far it’s been really nice and quiet when I’ve been on motorways and I would imagine it will be up around the 50MPG mark. Jim.
Trust me I’ve been through every setting and at night too. But if you find a way please let me know how it’s done 🤞I’d love it to be working. I even took it back to Citroen and they couldn’t help. Jim
I should be getting the car next week I’ll definitely be asking when I pick it up and if I get any news I’ll let you know. Even on the Citroen UK site it shows pictures of it lit up. 👍🏼
@@Sy-fly thanks so much!.. I’d love to have it working, can I ask what model you’re getting? I only ask as I believe the hybrid does have the ambient lighting. Jim
@@jimsmotoringmayhem Thanks Jim. The Citroen website is absolutely shocking regarding the full spec of this car. I couldn’t find that info. I even saw a RU-vid review by (I think) What Car that said heated seats were not available on any model. They need to up their game regarding information, it must cost them sales.
@@victorgrasscourt3382 The C5Air and the C5x 1.6 have the same braked towing weight 1600 kg , I let my wife have my old C5aircross 2ltr diesel a more superior car should have bought a new one of them
