Country has sub genreas like most main categories. (Like blue grass, outlaw, etc) This would be country blues. That sweet guitar reminds me of ben e king
I am 63 years "young" and my musical tastes are eclectic. However, like you, I was not a big fan of C&W, not because I didn't like it, maybe it's because I am a NYer. But I love The Blues, Southern Rock, Reggae, Heavy Metal, Some Classical, Ska, Punk, New Wave, and the list goes on. Chris Stapelton, IMHO cannot be boxed into the Country world. You should do Waylon Jennings’ “What Ever Happened to the Blues,” “Looking for Suzanne” and “Just to Satisfy You.” That last one is a duet with Willie Nelson by the way.
