I lived in Clear Lake in 1976/78 and loved it the best part was there was no stop lights in the county. I loved the beaches and the boating jet skies I was 12 it was a great place to live
This publicity is going to make people want to vacation here and travel here. Those tourists are going to be very disappointed when they arrive in Clear Lake and the best hotel to stay at is the El Grande. And the marina cottages that are on this show are right next to the lake that smell like sewer. Let alone any restaurants up to par around here that you would want to eat at if you were vacationing. I can't believe this was aired.
I moved to Clearlake 17 years ago. I was surprised at the energy expended by people trying to convince me of the nightmare this would be, pretty akin to here. It's been the best decision I've ever made. I've still never seen the meth and my 4 kids who have gone and go to the public schools have not been exposed to it. (pardon me for having better things to do then hang out on street corners at 1 am.) I recognize all the businesses and people in the video and applaud their efforts for being the voices of change. I've never been a glass half empty kind of guy so I'll continue to focus on our positive assets, beautiful fishing and boating lake, good golf, hiking, excellent rec. sports programs for the kids and a vibrant civic and business community. The placed I lived for 6 years before left me wondering if there even was a community. I found it here as soon as I moved here. Granted, we have plenty of problems. We'll slowly continue to build the reputation of the town back up, one brick at a time.
Bradshaw should learn. You cannot polish a turd. All these negative reviews are just the tip of the iceberg. Take a drive up there but I strongly recommend not getting out of your car.
those people have obviously never been to clearlake. i have lived there for over 20 years and just not to long ago i moved from there, that is the worst place to live due to the massive druggies that live. yeah, there might be nice people. i agree what one of the people said in the comments, the drugs are really bad. i would have to say clearlake is just as bad as san fransisco.
i know a guy that lived there 20 years, finally moved away and kicked himself for not moving out years ago. In the one week he moved- 2 motorcycles and a car was stolen from his garage.
Got to call Bullshit! I lived there for several years and it is nothing like this! Sure they show Austin Park looking nice, but what you don't see is if you pan over across the street, you see the homeless drinking and doing drugs out in the open right by a school. The roads are deplorable at best if you leave the highway. We couldn't get out of there fast enough. If it weren't for the fact that my mother and sister had moved there while we were out of state, we NEVER would have moved there.
I currently live in Southern California But I spent the past summer in and around Clearlake visiting friends, as a black person I was warned that there where “racist meth heads” and I was prepared to have to deal with them but in all honesty I had a pretty pleasant time maybe I was just lucky that summer definitely wouldn’t want to live there full time as there is NO night life what-so ever but did enjoy the change of pace from my big city lifestyle , I did a lot of hiking and also travelled to Mendocino National park where I enjoyed the beautiful trails . In closing it’s a small town that would be fun to travel to for a short period of time especially if you want to get away from the big city and just relax and take it easy for a couple days but I would not recommend anyone that’s young to move there.

Oh my...I came to this video because my family has land there at Clear Lake, which I have never seen. I was planning on visiting this summer to check out a possible retirement place...but after reading these comments I will reconsider. So sad.
Clearlake, California ( Lake County).... is a California Assembly Bill 109 dumping ground , among other countries in California. Drugs, poverty, politics and a half million year old lake of stagnant water, hence the stench and flora has added up to uselessness and suffering. Look into the history of Konocti Harbor Resort. Go visit it now. See for yourself if more than half of the comments are reasonable accurate. I lived there for over 25 including junior high and high school. Go to Ukiah or Santa Rosa instead. There’s zero economic’s for the county. The lake is nasty. The Indian reservation near Clearlake Oaks is a US disaster site and EPA reclamation sitefor the toxic mercury that seeps into the drinking water water. Fly above this site out of Lampson Airfield in Lakeport, California ( Lake County ) and see for your self the hewed stagnant and mercy poisoned water from the air. There in no interstate or major US highways going in or out of Lake County. ...........HOWEVER....it will always be home....and not all of its residents are human waste. It’s stunningly beautiful and hyper clean air quality. Fantastic bass fishing and water sports....Stay in Lakeport or Northern coastal towns when visiting. The city of Clearlake ( used to be called “ The Highlands”, until ...1980.??..has issues. Hence the negative comments. Very few economic opportunities in Lake County, especially in the city of Clearlake. Wine Orchard’s, olives, bass fishing nirvana. Do you think this place will turn around and ever be different? I read many times that the lake is mercury polluted and fish are not safe to eat. Wouldnt the wine grapes also be? I head its a foggy cold winter there. True? I could really use your advice on a few things.
the issue with Clearlake and Nice and Lucerne generally is that the lots there were platted in the 20s and the streets were never put until decades later there was no money to pave them other than a few of the collector streets.. only directly down town did the streets get paved. Out in what we called the Avenues ( you call the highlands) dirt roads and unimproved lots are the rule.. so it takes someone moving a water line and being able to get a septic in to build. So most of the lots were sold off over the years many trading at tax sales and then along with that MH were allowed so cheap lots cheap MH that were originally put in for weekender purposes became permanent residences. So in essance its like a big Mobile Home park with no real rules.. At same time if you look at Lakeport for instance they never allowed MH on lots and most of the roads got paved and sewer and water extended. The other Major area with 1920s lots was out by Borax lake same thing only a few paved roads the rest just dirt and water lines now that soil there is very sandy so perked real well .. we use to call it the Gohbi desert :) MH are the rule again very few stick build homes. So what you have is thousands of antiquate lots with MH on them .. Cheapest housing basically in all of CA.. so you have a lot of folks that are retired on smaller pensions and this is what they can afford.. or folks looking to live cheap etc etc.. The West side of the lake from the Riverias through Kelseyville to Lakeport completely different. there used to be an airport called Peirce field just across the highway from Redbud hospital.. I know this because my dad bought thousands of these lots in the 60s and roughed in the roads and sold the lots to weekenders.. I started my RE career there selling lots also.. It is what it is.. but there are like any city very fine people and well frankly the dregs of CA society .. When I lived there I lived in Lakeport.. we had a large Ranch in Upper lake out Elk Mtn road it was a wonderful time for us personally.
Do I always think Clearlake is amazing? No!!! but I don't think it as horrid as all of these comments suggest, I grew up my entire life here it is honestly an okay place to grow up!!!! Of course it has its various problems, but every city does!!
Exactly. I bought a house here and think it's paradise. These negative people sound really sheltered.. Idk where they lived most their lives where no one ever did drugs.. lol
The chaprrals on the mountain sides are so high and thick you ca not get through it. Burning Bands. Houses and communities burned to the ground. You can't burn cause you will set the world on fir and all those abanded wild life traps forgotten out in the brush will burn ...left there by the green peace and sierra club crowd. When people dye in wlld fires you should remember those responsible . The native people of the land knew ..!
All you critics who hate Clearlake so much....please leave. If you don't want to be a part of the solution, then you are the problem. I've been here over 50 years, raised kids, my family and their children have all enjoyed this place. It is beautiful.
What part is beautiful? The abandoned buildings over by the police station? The lovely roads the kids have to walk up to get to Pomo School? All of the pit bulls running around the Avenues? Or the LOVELY police department that won't come out if your property is vandalized? Or better yet, the fact that the same police will pull out assault rifles with scopes on children because your vehicle fits the description of a "vehicle of interest"? And the best you can get from them is basically, "Sorry, our bad". We got the hell out of that place so our kids can grow up in a normal place and not have to deal with all of the potheads walking down the street where that is perfectly acceptable.
What part is beautiful. Lets see,,,the lake, mountains, sunrises, sunsets, eagle nesting in the trees, all the birds, and the beauty of nature itself. How about the people who don't let trashy talk stop them from donating time and energy to various activities for kids and families. I don't know of anyplace in the world that is perfect, except fantasyland. For roads, I see a lot of nice new paving happening. It can't happen overnight, but it is happening. I remember walking on muddy dirt roads. As kids we didn't care. Not a priority. People indeed need to take care to prevent themselves from situations. Be aware of surroundings. Don't set yourself up. Know the people you hang with. Know your neighborhood and what's happening there. Why pick on the pitties. I recover so many dogs and find their owners. 90% are not pits. Dogs get out, and yes people need to take care of their animals as well as their children. It's about taking responsibility and not depending on a small city police dept to save the day. Buck up and try looking at the positive parts of this area, and standup and offer to help make it better. If you only look at the darkness, that's where you will live. If you just want to complain then I suggest you find some other like town to call home. Guarantee they all have problems and need people to help. We the people are the government and need to do our part to help. This story by Terry Bradshaw is great. The city is trying to find ways to help improve and I say good job.
It is very beautiful. It's paradise. Even abandoned buildings here have a unique charm and beauty, as do the dirt roads. These complainers are hilarious. They think cities exist where nobody ever drinks or does drugs.. 😂 I hope they moved to an Amish community and are happy there.

Clearlake is a lovely place. It has its problems, like ANY city, and fortunately the younger generations are working hard to improve Clearlake. Anyone who is paying attention has seen vast improvements made here over the past few years, as well as a growing number of people proud to call this place home. The community has come together to help improve activities and places for kids, cleaning the city up of garbage, and working toward improving people's health and living situations to help fight poverty and drug use. Don't be tricked by all the negativity, visit and judge for yourself. :)
We did visit for last years 4th of July fireworks show. Our car was broken into while watching those fireworks. Police told us it was a common occurrence.
The city of Clearlake is the worst! High homelessness and highest crime rate in the county! If you move to Lake County, choose any other community north and west of that city!
