There are few markers.. but on April 5, 1936, there was an F5 tornado that went through town and missed the Presley home, where Elvis was at 1 year old, by a half mile. There was a park just past that new police station where they recovered many of the 200 plus casualties. That’s how close it was. The statue at the first of the video is the location he was on stage in his “Return to Tupelo” concert after he became famous. That area is called “Fairpark” because it is the location of the old Mississippi-Alabama Fair where Elvis performed on that date. The statue is modeled after an actual picture taken at the concert. The Tupelo Hardware building you passed leaving “Fairpark” is where Elvis’ mother bought him his first guitar for his birthday. He went in wanting a rifle and they settled on a guitar. You passed many more landmarks.. too many to list I’m afraid.
Many thanks for your insights. I am not a local, I hope my random tour encourages people to visit for themselves, which is the point of many of my town exploration videos.
It's funny seeing people getting excited over what is everyday for me. By the by, the cotton mill is a repurposed building with a ballroom where you can hold events like weddings.
