“In Togo - and also globally - some young people and also adults can hardly participate in social life during their menstruation. This is mainly due to a lack of adequate menstrual products. Some young people regularly miss school days during menstruation. Because good products are too expensive, they help themselves out with scraps of cloth or toilet paper, and the cheap disposable pads are harmful to their health.
With the support of our association Woé zon loo e.V., our Togolese partner association IVA has set up the cloth sanitary napkin project "Lionne" in Kpalimé.
In series production, seamstresses make reusable cloth sanitary napkins from second-hand T-shirts. We have trained 100 women as "Lionne" counselors, who share their knowledge about the female cycle and offer the sanitary pads for sale.”
