3:41 "... all these pockets have their own volume" a man after my own heart. That bit about how the zippers can function while holding the grab handle is a really well thought out feature. You just made a sale, I'll put this in the queue. Thanks!
Just got my CHZ 22L last Saturday, and I got to "road test" it today. I did a 5+ mile round trip walk to work and back (I worked for a few hours in between). I live on one of Seattle's hills, and my office is at the bottom of that hill, so it was downhill there and stiff uphill back. A hike. I loved the look and feel of this pack when I first laid eyes and hands on it, but I'm happy to say that I love it even more after using it. Perfect size, great design and build, very comfortable to use. I'm a happy customer.
Great thorough overview! As an EDC bag, I think it is important to have 2 exterior quick access pockets, side water bottle pockets and quick unhindered access to the laptop. Here's some feedback that I've realized after using the bag for 8 months that I would love to see for v2. - Make the laptop sleeve a separate compartment so the top dump pocket does not interfere with the accessibility of the laptop. Accessing the laptop when the top pocket is packed out is a real challenge and can be quite an annoyance, degrading the ease of use over time. The separate compartment can also double up as a document sleeve and water bladder section. - An addition of one more exterior pocket at the front 'horn' section would be great as that spot seems to sag inwards often and the space seems under-utilized. This is the section below the interior top pocket. I believe these changes will increase the user experience, organization and appeal as a versatile EDC bag. Thank you for all of the thought and great work you put into your bags.
Roger- Thanks for the note. Good to know what you find useful for EDC. From our site - Our take on the classic single cavity daypack. Making the LT a separate compartment is not a bad idea but would not make this the bag we are intending as a part of our line. CHZ is basically our entry level bag. Adding a separate compartment would raise costs in materials and construction and put this bag in line with CPL24 costs. I think this would make a fine bag but just want you to know we are considering our overall offering all the time:) CHZ is also intentionally soft. It can never hold its shape ever unless packed full. The 3D shapes and patterning are really good looking when packed full. And to be fully honest we think it is equally killer when not full. But we hear and respect your input. Keep in mind that the way the lid folds open is a critical design point for the bag. Adding any other pockets will add more weight and possibly effect they way the lid opens and closes while not necessarily helping it keep its shape. Certainly if there were a larger version you might have more space to work with here too:) Be safe out there.
I love the general aesthetics and functionality on this thing, but it is still simply more bag than I need for my carry. Long bags are generally more comfortable on my frame so I wouldn't want that changed, but a version that is maybe 16l and that space coming out of the depth to make it a few inches slimmer would be killer for people with minimal daily needs and/or who prefer a sleeker profile.
I should amend my statement with noting just an option for compression straps would sort of accomplish the same general thing if they could pull upon the whole front panel.
About to start grad school.. need a new bag. Would you recommend civic half zip 22 or cpl 24? Love them both and cant decide 😅😅 the only though I have so far is that i like that the civic half zip had the water bottle holder, but other than that they both seem great!
Good luck with school. That is very exciting. I would look at it from the perspective of how much organization you want. Separate LT carry, more pockets = CPL24. Faster in and out, simpler, + water bottle pockets roll with the CHZ22. Hope that helps. Jack
I really hope this bag doesn't collect a ton dust, dirt, and hair like the CPL did, because otherwise it looks great. Edit- just looked at your blog and read your piece on the "Saga of 500d" and see that you've updated the materials for the better completely addressing this. You guys are true craftsmen. Does this mean if I buy a new Civic Panel Loader AND one of these Half zip's they'll both have the same fabrics?
Great pack, though my one critique is the lack of a mesh back panel, my back gets sweaty if I'm walking around outdoors for long periods of time. Otherwise it's a top tier bag in my opinion
Liam - Thanks for the note. None of our packs use "spacer" mesh or anything similar. We find these off the shelf back panel solutions to not be that effective and not age very well in terms of appearance. They can pill and get dirty and ratty looking over years of use. If we can one day come up with our own version that performs at a high level and will age in line with our desire9read be more durable) to build packs that stand up to many years of hard use we will certainly bring this solution into our product line. Be safe out there. Jack
I would buy this, but shipping cost to Poland is insanely high. $50 for usps services alone. Adding customs fees would almost double the bag's price :(
Good evening EVERGOODS, My question is: how well will this material stand up in a tropical environment (I live in Guyana, South America)? I purchased a Pelican Mobile Protect Backpack (Black) - MPB20 (20 Liter) in September 2018, and within about 4 months the fabric started to fade due to very limited exposure to the sun; less than 2 hours of sun exposure between the hours of 11 am - 13 hours daily. I have purchased other backpacks from other brands and never experienced any fades within a short period.
Devon- To be honest I am not familiar with your previous backpack or the materials they used. Additonally I am not sure what you mean by sun exposure. You go outside for two hours a day? You leave it in direct sunlight for two hours a day? Too many variables unknown for me to respond yet. The bottom line is nylon fabrics (which w use) will fade over time especially if they are left in direct sunlight. How long will this take depends on your actual usage or care for the bag. Leave it on back deck in direct light for two hours a day it will fade more quickly than if you are simply outside and moving around or in and out of direct light. If you want to discuss further email info@evergoods.us Jack
Man, literally the only thing that would make this the perfect bag for me is if there were more quick access pockets. I need a way to access keys or wallet without actually taking the bag off my pocket. Would your design team ever consider adding more quick access pockets in the future?
Tiffany- I am not sure what you mean? There is a quick access pocket on the top of the bag. Are you wishing for another one elsewhere? There are of course o thoughts on updating this bag as it has not even been shipped:) Many thanks! Jack
I believe she was hoping for a side quick access pocket that would enable her to swing the over her shoulder and access it without fully having to take off the bag, which isn't as convenient with a top quick ass pocket
@@evergoods_ Thanks for replying! ss2miraitrunks below said exactly what I mean! I'm thinking of commuters in cities who might need to access things without taking the backpack off their back. The bag I use now has a card pocket on the strap and quick access pocket on the back, near the water bottle pocket. Love your bags and can't wait to see what y'all make next!
Beautiful bag. It would have been great if the laptop was fully protected (it could get scratched by other contents) and if there was a quick access side pocket.
It is not half exposed but I hear your comment. FYI this has not been an issue in any of out testing. But thanks for the thought all the same. And not sure what you mean by a quick access side pocket. There is a quick access top pocket and the stretch pockets on the side can also be used for storing gloves or other items you may want to get at without opening the bag. Jack
