Wasn't there a guy from France that found a civil war belt buckle in Germany? I think..it was in 2005, by the Northern part of the border, and it was in a trash pit with German WW2 relics. This was before they started filming these on RU-vid, but there's was a blog post on it. If i find it again, i'll edit this comment.

Im pretty sure that plate is post Civil War... Its still a nice plate , but is 1870s or later "Indian Wars" era...

If I heard that right, toward the end, your wife gets all the rings you find and wears some of them. Brilliant way to keep enjoying your hobby without, shall we say, interference? Most, when they say, "Hey honey, I'm going metal detecting again today." hear, "what? again? Not today buddy, we're *fill in the blank*". Not you. You probably hear, "Ok, take all day if you want.".

Very nice - question - the heart shaped heel plate - I know you know the tales about ladies of the evening wearing those - Ive told people that is just what it is - a tale. True or false - Ive got a few and have friends that have some too - all from New England and only one was small enough to be from a womans shoe - most are large plates and have to be from a mans shoe or boot - many guys announce that they are automatically from CW which I get flack for disagreeing unless actually found from a camp or battlesite - my research just says they were one of like 6 designs offered for all to purchase...???

Yes. There were loads of Maine volunteers who invaded my state to oppress citizens. It’s very common to find their grave markers in the national cemeteries here.

I live on the Pacific coast of the USA, have been metal detecting since White's Electronics came out with the first personal metal detector and Dad got his first one. We have found everything from a live WW II Japanese anti-shipping mine to old coins on the beach. My current project is searching for a lost gold shipment in the Central and Eastern areas of my home state, it was lost during a raid on the mule train transporting it, by a band of Northern Paiute. No one knows where the ambush occurred or began, as there were no survivors and the horses and mules were runoff.
