The Cali Texas alliance seems non sensical but if both states seceded for different reasons, and were both attacked by Washington as a result, they would likely put their differences aside; at least for a time.
Exactly idk why people find it so hard to understand maybe the government is trying to take both their military equipment and they're by far the two strongest economies so makes sense they would put their differences aside
@@noelramirez1551 YES and I actually DISLIKE the people who spew their bullcr@p about how California and Texas would not join forces. I wonder if they never studied HISTORY?? In the 2nd world war the N@z1$ were so evil that even Russia was against them so we were on the same side then despite the "cold war". Of course 2 enemies will join forces for a temporary time against a much bigger threat to them both. Anyone who thinks otherwise is an IDIOT. California and Texas joining forces against an oppressive federal government makes total sense.
@@Jrod110 It DID happen once before well over a century ago and I forgot who the president was. However, our constitution stopped allowing that soon after so I am not sure what crazy plot device the movie writers came up with for this story.
@@motorcycleboy9000 Not necessarily. Texas and California will only comprise a force of about 70,000,000 people. And thats assuming that EVERYONE wants to fight. EVERYONE. But you and I both know that most people would want nothing to do with this, and so that would wittle the citizen combat forces down to about 2 million or less. And that's just being generous. There are over 300,000,000 in America, and ONLY about 1,180,000 U.S. citizens are enlisted in the armed forces. So if 300,000,000 citizens only generates 1,000,000 soldiers (0.3%) for an entire nation, then 70,000,000 citizens for just 2 states will generate about 210,000 fighters. Therefore only about 210,000 people will fight for California and Texas... ...that's not enough.
Oh yea. That's a real good reason to band together real quick. That, and the potential outlawing of the Bible or free speech. Or the Congress saying, "So and so is now President For Life and all powers have been vested into him..."
Not exactly... Cali and Texas are an alliance. They are separate republics, that although differ greatly in politics and policy, share a strong interest in this movie; Keeping their sovereignty from DC (Loyalist states). There is also the Florida alliance, and the Northern forces, who although aren't aligned with the loyalist states, still have yet to secede. It makes total sense even to today's divisions
Jesse Plemons in that " Well what kinda American Are You seen " just standing there makes that shit all that more Terrifying. Plemons is a scary dude bra. Amazing Actor
I thought the same. I think he knows a scenario like this really isn't that far out of reality at this point. It truly is frightening how easily the masses have been manipulated and divided in such a short amount of time.
HBO's 1997 film "The Second Civil War" : AM I A FORGOTTEN JOKE TO ALL OF YOU?? Also filmed through the perspective of journalists and has a huge cast of big actors/actresses and you can watch it here on RU-vid. It's great.
1, That movie was dark comedy satire, this movie is SERIOUS. 2. That movie had a low budget and did not have the epic scope of this new movie. That movie was a TV MOVIE and this movie will be in THEATERS. In other words, It $UCK3D and this new movie will be AWESOME.
Your two faces throughout sums up perfectly the polarity inside of so many of us. On the left hand side of the screen: eyes wide, crazy grin, the face of someone thinking 'yup, here it comes, we all saw it knew it and kept on making it happen, it's really wild, it's really scary, it's really world ending....but at least it's fucking REAL'. On the right hand side of the screen: eyes widen, body shrinks back in horror. The 'real' we've all been seeking, the only 'real' we've allowed ourselves to get to, is this REALity. And it's terrifying. One can only hope A24 has, in the film, and through the filmmaking, made clear to audiences that this is a cautionary tale, and not the roadmap or tutorial some may take away upon viewing. This is legitimately dangerous art. And I'm here for it.
I quote Christian Slater from Broken Arrow, "You know we're really gonna kick ass if we go to war with Utah." Kid me was thinking, "That's stupid". 35 year old me now sits here going "Umm..."
ALSO: The Texas Cali thing makes sense....if youre not seeing the world through only online political news and views... California, Texas, and the states in between, do have a fair amount of people...but more than people, they have LAND. In a ground war, the land its self is key....the populations on top of it come and go. That land is privately owned, as well as a fair amount of federal holdings. Privately owned land is usually held by conservatives. So....while LA and San Fran, and Austin - and to a lesser extent the labor class of Silicon Valley - are 'loud proud lefties', the MASSES of ACREAGE surrounding those cities is still full 'red state' realness. Do not get it twisted. LA and San Fran would likely have to wall themselves off, while the enormity of Californias rural areas would be held down by wealthy private militaries and whatever cartel forces remain from marijuana grow operations in northern Cali and the North West. If you look at electoral maps of the nation by county, you'll see exactly why California - as a state, not a philosophy - connects seamlessly with Texas Nevada Colorado, Idaho, Washington, Oregon and the Dakotas: The "Blue Team" are densely populated urban Islands... on a vast, thinly populated "Red Sea". If the war goes offline and on the ground, It makes sense for most of the west to coalesce around the access and resources provided by the Sacremento and San Joaquin Valleys, the Colorado River, and the millions of acres of existing ranchland. The existing owners/operators of land and industries in those areas, to say nothing of the existing folks living between those areas - far flung desert dwellers and mountaineers - are not San-Fran Soy Latte Folks to begin with. The first thing in war is to protect ones own - land resources family - and as much of the west is already owned by corporations or the mega wealthy, it makes sense - perfect sense - that those barons of cattle, timber, oil, and tech would circle their wagons, load up their existing ARMORIES, double their "security forces' and start putting up fences. The next war is the war between town and country. And 'country' has the land advantage.
In the event of a dictatorship taking hold in the US… Texas and California.. as much as they have their differences, are the only 2 states that would be strong enough to resist on their own. The rest for the most part would starve and run out of energy without the Federal government. So it’s not that far fetched.
jasonhickman: The background stuff in the trailer appears to indicate that's what's happening in Washington DC. There's a 3 term president in there that's pulling a Palpatine and refusing to step down, and the two major States in America said No Thank You, and they're leaving along with 12 others on their team plus Florida bailing out on their own. Interesting idea
It's crazy that everyone's reaction is "Texas and Cali?? NO way!!!" It's crazy because everyone knows that they are on opposing sides in real life. Which means this is a version of the future we're headed for. If it were Texas and Florida, everyone would be like "Yup, that's happening."
Cali and Texas are an alliance. They are separate republics, that although differ greatly in politics and policy, share a strong interest in this movie; Keeping their sovereignty from DC (Loyalist states). When the man with the weapon asked the Hispanic Man, “What kind of American are you?” He was not referring to his political party affiliation. He was asking if he was Mexican-American, Guatemalan-American, etc. He was inquiring if he had dual loyalty, dual citizenship, dual passports, etc. That’s what happens if you keep hyphenating yourself and don’t commit to just being “American.”
The Cali Texas alliance makes more sense when you consider the radio host mentioned a ‘third’ term president caused 19 states to secede from the Union. Cali and Texas led one group Florida led another.
Texas and California would never team up against the US 🇺🇸 atleast not in this universe we live in lol. As a veteran of the war in Iraq 2007..I couldn't imagine US forces ever taking arms against our own even if we differ in politics..in the field its not your flag your fighting for its your fellow soldier no matter their political views..we keep each other alive.
We already did, go against our country, look at the border and look at the country, why did we go , everything is here and waiting to take us , I'm sorry you think we would never hurt another person, Obama 13 obiden 13 and left everything for our enemies, wake up
Yes they would if you had any real understanding of the situation. From the sounds of it you weren't paid to think. Texas and California are the two main States in the US that could viably succeed and be self-sufficient. Being on the same side does not mean you're necessarily friends with your ally, when you're only allies in lieu of a common enemy. Germany and Japan, for example. Didn't they at least teach you grunts that "the enemy of thy enemy is my friend"?
Texas and California joining forces is actually brilliant. Because it shows that it’s not really a liberal vs conservative thing. It’s an authoritarian vs liberty thing..which is the truth. I can’t wait to see this.
@@emgray80dude I've lived in California. It may have more people than Texas, but Texas has ten times the amount of guns. California is nothing but anti gun liberals. Have fun fighting Texas. You wanna know how I know you're a leftist?
@atifchoudhury5180: Whoever’s not on the Whites side would definitely lose and lose quickly. Numbers and geography alone spells quick defeat let alone the number of guns, ammo, and food that comes from us.
The predictive programming in these movies should be sending up red flags to everyone that they need to get ready for the shit hitting the fan within the next couple years…
The trailer u r watching ryt now Guys is true. We r living in the end times of this world. New golden age begins 2032. Before that Civil war ww3 natural disasters and destruction will take place till 2032.🙏🙏
Everybody says a civil war would be worse than WWIII. I've been told that by many former military and current. But as a Texan, who'd definitely vote in favor of separation, see a civil war as the only means as to separate from this Union, without complete US military focus on us individually. If the opportunity presents itself, don't be surprised if Texas decides to dip. I don't know if the rest of the country is aware, but we as Texans could easily do without the rest of you. Hell we'll probably take Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma while we're at it. That's the actual Texas alliance in a civil war.
It's more realistic that Texas and California would be fighting against each other in a civil war, than they would be the main forces fighting against the rest of America in a civil war.
Taken together, they'd be a massive economy. The screenwriters wrote it that way to sidestep the actual political divisions in the country and avoid making a film that would likely be polarizing for audiences
@@PathosConsultingGroupYou still have to hand it to Alex Garland and the writers for having the balls to do this movie anyway. I just hope this doesnt get postponed due to it releasing during election year. Damn...
Its interesting you guys brought up The Purge. As far fetched as it sounds, there would probably be groups of people that would use the civil war to act on their psychopathic tendencies. Obviously it wouldn't be sanctioned, but when ish hits the fan people become unpredictable.
No it isnt. I got something that would take that laugh off your face real quick. If Congress said, "So and so is now the President for life and all authority has been given to him," that changes EVERYTHING.
Something like this might become a real necessity soon. According to the best and brightest amongst our founding fathers we’re long overdue. Never for get, they killed several tens of thousands over a 3% tax on tea!
Everyone saying the state team ups are nonsense because when people hear civil war they think red v blue but I hope this movie is more about the fight against tyranny and the rise of dictatorship
The trailer had me at “From the writer of 28 Days Later, Ex Machina and Annihilation.” Alex Garland can do no wrong in my mind. And A24 is a movie studio that puts out nothing but some of the best movies of the last decade. Seriously. Check out some of these titles: Room (not The Room), Green Room, Enemy, Under the Skin, Locke, Ex Machina, The Lobster, Swiss Army Man, Good Time, It Comes at Night, Hereditary, Midsommar, The Lighthouse and Uncut Gems. And I haven’t even mentioned the two Best Picture Oscar-winning films yet (Moonlight and Everything Everywhere All at Once)
Ok granted some of you may see it as far fetched but look it at like this “If you were an analyst from a foreign country looking at events within the U.S the same way as you look at events in Ukraine, Israel, Venezuela or Haiti you would honestly go down a checklist assessing each of the conditions that make a ‘Civil War’ likely and what you would find is that the United States (A democracy founded more then two centuries ago) has entered such very dangerous territory” 🤓
I could see California and Texas cause the enemy of my enemy is my friend kind of thing but not to include Florida and some of the other states by Texas is what makes it unrealistic. Ohio, WV, Kansas, and large parts of Pa definitely wouldn’t join the gov’s side either.
Do you not see how divided the country looks right now? Dems vs Republicans. Red states vs blue. Texas is looking into seceding from the nation next year. The scenarios in the movie is plausible.
@@rullvox5912 Most military alliances are a loose agreement for convenience. Germany and Japan had no real interest in each other, the worked in concert because it benefited both parties. When the Allies won, they quickly devolved into old grievances over how to punish the losing side. If it wasn't for waving the nuke over everyone's head, we probably would have quickly went into WW3.
They're on the same side in the movie because they're both Separatist Nations from the US. Highly doubt they're united. If people could just think for more than five seconds, maybe y'all would understand that. @@rullvox5912
Texas and Cali teaming up.. ok it’s a movie we’ll let that happen. The Florida alliance… obviously.. Florida man doing his own thing. But if you don’t think the entire south .. Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, North Carolina and South Carolina and even Kentucky and Arkansas up in here. Only a matter of time before the Dakotas and Nebraska and them join.
Don't confuse the state governments with the people of those states. Think whatever you want. Just do it critically and with genuine intellectual honesty. The 5 Steps to Critical Thinking: What is critical thinking? In general, critical thinking refers to actively questioning statements rather than blindly accepting them. Critical thinking results in radical free will. 1. The critical thinker is flexible yet maintains an attitude of healthy skepticism. Critical thinkers are open to new information, ideas, and claims. They genuinely consider alternative explanations and possibilities. However, this open-mindedness is tempered by a healthy sense of skepticism (Hyman, 2007). The critical thinker consistently asks, “What evidence supports this claim?” 2. The critical thinker scrutinizes the evidence before drawing conclusions. Critical thinkers strive to weigh all the available evidence before arriving at conclusions. In evaluating evidence, critical thinkers distinguish between empirical evidence versus opinions based on feelings or personal experience. 3. The critical thinker can assume other perspectives. Critical thinkers are not imprisoned by their own points of view. Nor are they limited in their capacity to imagine life experiences and perspectives that are fundamentally different from their own. Rather, the critical thinker strives to understand and evaluate issues from many different angles. 4. The critical thinker is aware of biases and assumptions. In evaluating evidence and ideas, critical thinkers strive to identify the biases and assumptions that are inherent in any argument (Riggio & Halpern, 2006). Critical thinkers also try to identify and minimize the influence of their own biases. 5. The critical thinker engages in reflective thinking. Critical thinkers avoid knee-jerk responses. Instead, critical thinkers are reflective. Most complex issues are unlikely to have a simple solution. Therefore, critical thinkers resist the temptation to sidestep complexity by boiling an issue down to an either/or, yes/no kind of proposition. Instead, the critical thinker expects and accepts complexity (Halpern, 2007). Critical thinking is not a single skill, but rather a set of attitudes and thinking skills. As is true with any set of skills, you can get better at these skills with practice. In a nut shell, critical thinking is the active process of minimizing preconceptions and biases while evaluating evidence, determining the conclusions that can reasonably be drawn from evidence, and considering alternative explanations for research findings or other phenomena. CRITICAL THINKING QUESTIONS >Why might other people want to discourage you from critical thinking? >In what situations is it probably most difficult or challenging for you to exercise critical thinking skills? Why? > What can you do or say to encourage others to use critical thinking in evaluating questionable claims or assertions?
Said 119 states seceded in trailer. They had to team up in this movie or the audience would be too split up blue/red. This way it's just against the government.
the "What kind of American are you?" quote is just spine chilling i mean seriously. theres already americans who talk just like that man and its scary.
