- Sencut uses a free-spinning pivot but most models have enough scale friction that it doesn't matter. + All the WE 9Cr18Mov gets an exceptional heat treatment. It tends to hold a better edge than Spyderco VG-10. (It's also more stainless than either 8Cr13Mov or VG-10.)

To me, the most important message from this video is that there are really good knives out there for all budget ranges inc. sub $50. Sub $50 use to mean buying junk. Now you can get good materials, designs and quality. If you buy the SenCut you won't be disappointed. Thanks for another informative vid.

The main difference I've noticed is the pivot on the Sencut you have to use two T8's Vs. the Civivi has the D pivot or captive. Waiting on the Sache to come back in stock, when it dropped I had just bought several TwoSuns. So far I have the Scepter , Honoris in Cuibourita, and Snap in Cuibourita is in the mail. I used to be able to remember all the names once my collection hit 300 Nope just nope.

Sandvik is one of the holy trinity of budget steels like AUS 10/VG-10 and D2, which punch WELL above their weight, nearly matching super steels. 9cr being equivalent to 440c is certainly a big improvement over 8cr is not "better" than sandvik. 440c is incredible in that it became the basis for some of our best "user" (non-super) steels like 154cm etc.

Now if it was 25 dollars extra for nitro v then yeah id say go for it. But not for 14c. I love 14c, one of my favorite steels but not worth that

@jonathanklein7875
@jonathanklein7875 Год назад
One difference between the Sencut and the Civivi you didn't mention that is important to me is the pivot. I don't care about the logo, it's that the Civivi has a captive pivot (notch inside that slots into the scale). The Sencut free spins with T8s on both sides. This means you need 2 drivers for disassembly/assembly (one to hold one side still) and in my experience, free spinning pivots are more likely to loosen over time and harder to adjust.

i would say, why buy a "premium" WE (i still don't "get" titanium.... when there's micarta) over a civivi. cuz sandvik might be along with 154cm one of the "best" all around steel when considering, value, performance, ease of sharpening, corrosion resistance, edge retention and toughness. you can't say that about 9cr. although 9cr is definitely an improvement over 8cr, it's not in the category of best bang for your buck steels...

I had every intention on getting a cogent this year at Blade. When I finally got the Cogent in hand it was okay but there was minor button stick. I know it’s not the end of the world but I’m picky enough that it bothered me. That said after I ran into you guys on day 1, I ran over to the Sencut booth and immediately bought the Sachse at first touch/flip. Mine had ZERO button stick and the Micarta felt great to me. One thing that drives me nuts (but I understand) is that Civivi and Sencut use so many different types of Micarta it drives me insane. You never know what you’re going to get till it’s in hand. With that said, the Sachse hit everything I was looking for. I bought the Sachse and the Brontë for the price of a Cogent and couldn’t be happier. I went back to the WE booth and apologized to Seth and he looked at me and smiled and was like “I know right, I don’t blame you”. Im not saying I’ll never own a Cogent but I have zero regrets going with Sencut. Like you said, besides the steel you can’t tell the difference in quality. Just wait and see if you guys end up getting the new Civivi Teraxe. Stainless steel frame lock with G10 with NitroV for 105 bucks?! Um the design is nice but No Thank you! I’d rather get a 45 dollar Sencut and use the rest for cat food and save the rest to put towards another WE. Not another Civivi for over 100 bones 🦴. /rant over
@BirdShotIV
@BirdShotIV Год назад
Thanks Frizzlefry! We’re looking forward to doing the Teraxe comparison as well. I think the button stick is actually something from knife to knife as well, and often is part of the break-in that gets better. Thanks for the inside story! -bird

@Frizzlefry7 Год назад
@@BirdShotIV agreed 100% on the button stick. With many people having button stick issues with their ProTech Malibu’s there was no way I was getting one online. WE and Sencut is where it’s at. Civivi is in an odd spot where the quality is just meh and the price is high. Civivi is charging for looks, but what I don’t understand is why their functional quality is lower than Sencut. They need better QA. An example would be with the cogent, the spring needs to be fixed out of the box, but is perfect on say the Sencut serene. So your paying more for looks but a knife that’s not built as well.
