I bought the Nitecore EDC27 a couple of weeks ago, as my EDC. It blows away every other EDC on the market. I particularly like the OLED display, so I can see battery levels. The display will even tell you how long the battery will run at a given lumen/brightness. The controls are very well thought-out, and it’s intuitive to use. With two levels of lockout, it is not likely to run down the battery when in my pocket. Oh, and if it detects something covering the LEDs, it will automagically dim itself down to 65 lumens, so it doesn’t cause a fire. (!) one last thing - it charges via a standard USB-C cable. This is a quality flashlight. The other manufacturers have a LOT of catching up to do.

The EDC27 has a special copper heat plate inside, that allow the light to sustain the 1,000 lumens level for quite a long time. This unique thermal management feature makes the Nitecore specially desirable among all four lights. The Surefire is certainly the most reliable of the group, and the manufacturer allows for real warranty claims should something go bad with the light. This is a great value added feature, but it is up to each user to evaluate if the greater reliability and the iron-clad customer assistance are worth double of the sale price.

I use to run the surefire, then I switched to the olight warrior mini 2. Reason, longer runtime and more versatile as an edc.

I have only 3 problems with EDC27 1. Button doesn't always work so you have to press it multiple times. 2. Lenses feel like that they could scratch easily when it's in your pocket. 3. You can't change battery to it. but otherwise I have been very happy and in real life any of those 3 problems hasn't been problem to me yet and hopefully never be =) Also it's really easy to learn two button UI. If you half press button 1 you will turn on low light if you half press button you will get turbo on. If you just click button 1 you will turn the light on with the lever which you last used. If you want to change brigtness just half press butt on1 and when you want to turn it of just full press button 1. I don't understand how you couldn't turn on the strobe because you only have to full press button 2. It sounds complicated but it's not it's just me explaining it which make it sounds complicated.

I've been carrying the Arkfeld UV for a little while now. It's the only one of the bunch that is slim and short enough. The UV is also a cool unique bonus feature. I considered the streamlight, but it's too long for my pockets. I've tried to carry lights of such length before, and it either is poking into me or slides out. The Arkfeld does sometimes slide out a bit when I'm sitting, but then slides back when I stand up. Thus far, I've not had it slide out or accidentally turn on(a very important point for me), even without using the lockout mode. Other than increasing run times and/or brightness in future iterations, my only suggestion to olight would be to add an optional usb-c charging port. I am fine with their charger system at home, but it's quite annoying to travel with, since I have to take the dedicated charging cable. Also, I may be the only one, but I am not a huge fan of their reversible pocket clip. It sticks out a bit too much, and I scrape it on things as I'm walking by. I would like a shorter, simpler pocket clip option. If they don't offer it, I may have to modify the clip myself.

ya the uv LEDs came out around 5-10 years ago. i am suprised to see everything that employs them trys to market as a premium product. they cost pennies each from the manufactueres now days. i like the olight arkfield... but i think I will wait a year or two until sofarin makes a knockoff with a usbc port that i can buy for 5$ and not care if i loose it thats what ive done with all of olights models

I really want to like the Olight, But All three of the Olights pocket Olights I've owned have had problems and need something I can rely on. The Streamlight is cool but no tail switch. The Nitecore is unproven so the Original Stiletto seems the only choice at 135.00 a little more but by far the most dependable

First, important for an EDC light is to be able to clip it to a hat brim for hands free. The only one in this lineup that accomplishes this is the Surefire, because you can reverse the clip. Olight resolved it in a later model by adding a two way clip. Second, the price of the Surefire is ridiculous. It really shouldn't be compared to light that can be picked up for 1/2 to 1/3 of its price. Funny thing is that its capabilities are not obviously better, in fact they are similarly inline with the other three, so I can't understand the pricing. Third, I don't have a third, but thanks for the great comparison.

I EDC a Nitecore P20iX. Bezel is a bit large, but it is more than 45 years that a carry a light on my person, so I got accustomed to it. The P20iX can sustain 4K lumens for quite some time, and 1000 lumens permanently. It lights up the air all around with its four emitters, and blows the EDC27 out of the water. Still, it has some incredible throw for a quadruple emitter flashlight...

How many years does the battery last in the wedge flashlight? At the end of battery life, can the consumer replace the battery? Does the manufacturer offer battery replacement or just the flashlight then become disposable?
@rayoflight62
@rayoflight62 4 месяца назад
No, those lights are considered throwaways. After three years the battery expires, and no replacements are available from the manufacturers. A good technician could easily adapt a different high-drain battery, of the type used in small drones; but the feasibility is not guaranteed. More and more flashlights have a built-in battery nowadays, since they can be made brighter, more reliable, much cheaper and smaller than a flashlight with a swappable battery; the only downside, the light being a throwaway device. I have many flashlights with replaceable batteries from the years past, professional expensive devices with 200 lumens max which makes them unusable anyway.

I want that nitecore but it's on backorder and dont really trust that screen. I have a few nitecore products, I genuinely prefer their lights but I do own their tini 2 and have already had the glass on that shatter. I'd say either the arkfeld or wedge are the best bet. I personally like the wedge. I think it's form is better than the arkfeld

I’ve been a flashaholic since 2006 and I encourage everyone to carry a Streamlight Microstream (45 lumen primary model,NOT the USB model) for one week.
@ryanvanderlugt5752
@ryanvanderlugt5752 Год назад
Why the AAA and not the USB?
@Dad_Brad
@Dad_Brad Год назад
@@ryanvanderlugt5752 Form factor (its smaller and a tad lighter). Price(Cheaper to buy and replace when lost/stolen/destroyed). Availability of batteries(it can operate on primaries and rechargeable NiMh). Better waterproofing. Simple push button activation without fiddling around for the right mode. The finish also develops a nice patina over time. Also, the USB model uses the outdated micro USB port which is a no go for most people in 2023. I have both and I love them both but if you need 200+ lumens of light it’s better to just carry a whole different class of flashlight for that. Micro sized lights that kick out fancy high lumens can only do it for a few minutes. The circuitry which allows the multimode outputs also kills the performance on lower settings in to 40-50 lumen range. When I need serious high lumens I use the Streamlight 1L-1AA, a Protac P90 or the enormous Protac HL5-X.

@@Dad_Brad I disagree. The streamlight usb charging light is hands down better than the battery model. I have a half dozen battery models sitting around that don't get used since I bought the rechargeable. Just wish they would make it usb-c. I am still waiting for someone to make a flat version with usb-c and a pocket clip that can moun to your hat. Not sure why these guys have missed that. Olights might but I don't want to deal with their proprietary charging cords.
@Dad_Brad
@Dad_Brad 5 месяцев назад
@@mzimmerman12 when given the option most people do like propriety rechargeable batteries over primary cells or off the shelf rechargeable aa/aaa batteries. Even in game console controllers like the PS5 and Xbox. I’m fine with rechargeable systems as long as I have the option to revert back to primary cells or eneloop style batteries when I want/need to. I don’t think Streamlight is listening to me. 😂

@@Dad_Brad Most of us have multiple flashlights especially as things keep improving very quickly. I stock up on plenty of AA and AAA batteries and most of my older but still great LED lights are still around for that day you need them. But most of my battery operated flashlights I only use rechargeable as I have ruined too may electronic devices due to leaking batteries. Still waiting for that flat edc light with 2 modes, USB-c charging, and a hat clip at a decent price before I give up my Micro-stream rechargeable.

I had the EDC by nite core is a great looking flashlight, nice features, led screen with battery time remaining on the different lumens. I love the slim design.......Here is my complain, the power button you have to learn how to cycle it, to me that was way too complicated, soft push on power button to cycle through different lumens, if you push in a way other than soft it will turn off, if you push too hard it would lock then you have to push the button and hold it about 3 seconds to unlock if you relax you thumb it stays lock and you have to start again, it has a great clip to hold it on your shirt or jeans pockets but no magnet of a way to hang it. The 3000 lumens feature last about 5 seconds while holding the soft button. It won't stay locked at 3000 lumens like the other lumens setting 65, 200, 1000 and finally the battery capacity 1750ma in my opinion capacity too small also, the battery is seal inside, don't look like there is a way to replace it unless you disassembled it. and like all rechargeable batteries you will have to replace it at one point and because of the slim design it doesn't look like a battery that they sell around the corner. With that being said I still think is a great looking, nice feature but not so cheap at 90 dls flashlight. Now I must say i wanted a flashlight for work and this one just doesn't cut it. for home and to have it on you car it would be a good light.

Stilletto is a no go. 200 bucks for the old model and over 300 for the new one. Just doesn't make sense when the competitors cost a third of the price and deliver products that perform similarly (and in the case of the EDC27, better.) Surefire charges out the nose for their stuff and I just don't think the value is there.

The market is really coming alive with LED lights but they are stuck in the round design. Flat is my idea of a pocket light, but there are very few between 3-5". Rubber charging caps should be eliminated and rather hinged flap like the Wuben X2 or under a hard cap The proprietary charging of the Olight is a huge turn off. 230 for the Surefire is a bit much, Made in USA but still, its pricey and a rubber charge port plug is BS for that price.

The light technology oligarchs are being overrun by a welcoming budget friendly competition with more features and constant upgrades (LEP no comparison )( multi emitters, programmable multi color, multi component ) coming every month. Sofirm, wurkkos, convoy, Mateminco, emisar , weltool among others …. You will discover true light power orgasm at a reasonable price.
