This is a CJRB Pyrite edge retention video.
I wanted to see how AR-RPM9 did with 1/2 rope. How many cuts do you expect?
Below is a link to my AR-RPM9 video. Check it out and tell me your thought in the comments.
Below is a link to Larrin Thomson’s video about Artisan m/CJRB’s proprietary steel AR-RPM9.
Dont forget to check out the WTP Instagram Page.
I appreciate all the help and support this community has shown the channel. Without you guys and gals this wouldn’t be the same. Thanks Peeps!👊

What we all wanted to know. Thanks man! (although, having watched Dr. Thomas’s video, I didn’t realize that the PM process was more about toughness than edge retention.

You know I was going to do this video. Haha. Got to know the performance. I’ll resharpen it and do it one more time just in case. Now that I did 9CR18MOV I can’t look at ARRPM9 the same. Crazy! Haha!👊🤣💪

It's a good budget steel. Especially for those like me that aren't heavy users anyway

Got that right! It didn’t do too bad at all. Thanks Mike!👊💪

One of the better budget steels Even though it’s spray form not powder form, it’s still good I really want CJRB and Artisan to make a spray form of CTS-XHP Or just stainless D2 Give us the consistency of AR-RPM9 (always thought that was just a random name with the 0.% of the carbon, kinda like 9Cr) with the edge retention of D2 They could call it AR-RPM 15 And give it 1.5% carbon and say that’s its new namesake Would fix a lot of their crappy marketing, that’s for sure And could be a really cool midrange steel (for their 60-150$ knives)

It’s not a very good steel honestly. I just tested Sencut Glide Strike 9CR18MOV. It was thicker behind the edge than the Pyrite and still got 95 cuts. That’s a huge difference in my opinion. I will retest it but I’m sure ARRPM9 is like 8CR max probably like 7CR honestly. Eventually I will get a knife in 8/7CR and test them to see as well. They definitely need to figure out how to fix the name and situation. They can make things better for themselves. I say just scrap that steel and use what’s tested and true if they canny market it as it should be marketed. That’s just my opinion though. There’s a lot more tests coming. Just got about 15 knives in for testing. Thanks for the support! I appreciate it.👊

Its not spray form. Its a proprietary technology called Jet Powder Casting per the factory.

@@WhatsthePOINT_EDCoutpost76 also showed civivi 9cr better than this.

Larrin said he thinks its spray form but the factory says its a proprietary technology called Jet Powder Casting. And other people from China say its electric arc. I dont trust Larrin with a lot of stuff that he is wrong on often.

Yea man that’s what he said. You’re right about that. I have found that he’s not always right but that’s to be expected for real. There’s so many variables in steels that anything is subjective. To be honest I don’t know enough to have the facts. It’s very interesting though.🤔

What's the edge angle you're running? Maybe dropping it back to around 17 degrees per side would improve the bite?
@WhatsthePOINT_EDC
@WhatsthePOINT_EDC Месяц назад
It is 17 degrees. I was going to do 15 but thought I better not because RPM9 doesn’t do good with that low of an angle. It’s not good steel in my honest opinion. Thanks man!👊

@@WhatsthePOINT_EDC Wow, with the way you were struggling, I figured it had to be 20 degrees or more! Can't say I've been impressed with this steel but damn LOL Good stuff man, glad I found your channel.

Are you sharpening every knife prior to cutting? That's really the only way to do it. Factory grinds always fall short.
@WhatsthePOINT_EDC
@WhatsthePOINT_EDC 2 месяца назад
I will do the factory edge, my edge, & Timbo’s edge if possible. That gives me at least 2 tests to get information on. I do think that the best edge for testing would be the 3rd edge. Getting into the “better” steel. I’m not to that technical but it would be cool to take things that far. There’s a lot to learn, a lot to do, & nothing but time to do it. I log everything from the edge/grit/angle of each knife, the material cut & the amount of cuts. Recently I have started logging all the knives & the steels I’ve sharpened. Is this a hobby or something else at this point? Haha! Thanks man!👊🤣🤘

@@WhatsthePOINT_EDC with rope cutting, behind the edge thickness matters a lot. Would be good to get that too. In cardboard cutting it matters a lot less.
@WhatsthePOINT_EDC
@WhatsthePOINT_EDC 2 месяца назад
It sure does. I’ve told people a knife with very good geometry will pass through certain materials even when dull. The most important thing about a knife’s performance is the geometry. Poor geometry=bad cutting.
@tacticalcenter8658
@tacticalcenter8658 2 месяца назад
@@WhatsthePOINT_EDC well what I mean is, the results matter with bte. So let's say you have a thicker behind the edge knife that has slightly less results as another knife that is thinner behind the edge. Or the other way around. If you know the bte thickness, you can compare the numbers. If you dont have bte thickness, you can't compare the numbers.

I haven’t had any issues with mine either. It’s been good so far and has held a good edge as well. I think 50 cuts should be a good amount of cuts for the steel. I haven’t tested 9CR18MOV yet but I will today and drop the video. That’s should be a decent way to see how AR-RPM9 did. Up until now I’ve rope cut edge retention tested mostly super steels so there’s no comparable information/testing for me to go off of. In time I’ll get to all the steels. Yea man K390 is one of the steel’s coming I believe. That should be a blast to cut test. Haha. Shoulder killer I bet. Haha. Thanks man!👊🤣
